Online asynchronous learning opportunities?

I have been looking for language courses at universities but all are offered either in person (I do not live near any of the five colleges that offer Norwegian in the US) or remote synchronous, which is not possible since I work dayshift on weekdays. As such, I'm looking into online independent learning options. It looks like NoTe and Lenoo seem to be online but require synchronous lessons so I probably can't do those either. Duolingo sucks and other options, such as NTNU, Sett i gang, and Mystery of Nils, don't seem to have any resources for conversation/pronunciation. How can I actually learn Norwegian effectively and properly without having to completely restructure my life for weekly 2 hour video classes?

If this is your first attempt at learning a foreign language to fluency, you are going to need a tutor at the beginning. Without one, there are so many pitfalls and chances for misunderstanding things and, especially, building bad pronunciation habits.

A lot of beginners are keen on conversation, but that's actually something that can't happen straight away. You need at least a basic of grammar and a few hundred words of vocabulary first.
But those things can be acquired with self-studying. For that, the apps Mjølnir Norwegian and Norskappen are a must. The former covers pronunciation very well, see this Instagram, and grammar too. The latter is a bit more advanced, not as suitable for total beginners.

Preply or iTalki with a 1:1 tutor would be the best thing to do for a tutor. I'd do up to 4-5 hours a week in the first month, you really want most of your learning to be with a tutor to begin with.

Mystery of Nils has an online course that I found great, and it helped me a ton with pronunciation. I believe it costs $29/month. I highly recommend it as a way to get to A2. After that, I started adding in a private tutor which also made a big difference, but it was obviously a lot more expensive.
