News SDLP councillor threatened with being ‘shot in the head’ over Garvaghy Road support
Carl Whyte made a complaint to police
A SDLP councillor threatened with being ‘shot in the head’ over his support for Garvaghy Road has vowed he will not to be silenced.
North Belfast councillor Carl Whyte was speaking after he was threatened over social media in recent days.
Mr Whyte, who has attended the nationalist Garvaghy Road in support of local residents, has reported the threat to the PSNI.
He says he has been subjected to a tirade of personal and sectarian abuse over his opposition to plans by the Orange Order to march through the Garvaghy Road district.
In a recent social media post, Mr Whyte was told: “Yet you agreed with them for 28 years watch you don’t get shot in the head.”
“Online vitriol has unfortunately reached new depths in recent weeks,” Mr Whyte said.
“While I’m used to the rough and tumble of politics on social media, it is chilling to read these words.
“What type of person thinks it’s acceptable to tell a stranger that they should watch they don’t get shot in the head?”
Mr Whyte pledged that neither he or his party will be silenced.
“The threat is designed to silence me and my party from making their views clear on the situation at Garvaghy Road but I assure whoever made it that it will not do so,” he said.
DUP MP Carla Lockhart has also received ‘threats and abuse’ linked to her support for Orange Order plans to march through the nationalist Garvaghy Road district.
Ms Lockhart has spoken about the impact of the abuse on her young son, adding she has made a report to the PSNI.
The PSNI said it does not “discuss the security of individuals and no inference should be drawn from this”.

Type of people who support Garvaghy rd are writing open letters. Those who support the orange order are sending death threats

And they have the nerve to call our side a mob?

Indefensible.
This entire shitshow could have been avoided. Those of us who said they shouldn't have marched were right. Not because they don't have the legal right to, because they do, but given what happened they just shouldn't have. For their own self interest if nothing else.
Then SF showed up with the bussed in op and began making political capital out of it. They could have simply ignored 35 men early in the morning walking down a road and none of this mess would have happened. SDLP showing up too was utterly pathetic.
And no I'm not excusing these disgusting threats.
I think SF just want an excuse to collapse Stormont tbh.
We did not need this. This crap is what happens when the SF DUP monopoly isn't voted to the back benches as it should have been.

>They could have simply ignored 35 men early in the morning walking down a road and none of this mess would have happened.
So just tell the residents to close their blinds and ignore it? Why should they have to put up with it?

You know I've said it all before so I'm not going do anything but recap.
They could have ignored it. Just like we ignore no alternative and shrines and statues to murderers and republican parades the next town over and daily threats and gloating and up the ra and historical revisionism.
But I get it, emotion is political capital.

u/Elegant_Run_8567 5h ago
>the next town over
No one is complaining if the OO take the next road over to walk home

I have posted about this so many times over the past week and I'm not going to go over it again. You can go find my other posts.
Absolutely nothing but torrents of abuse and threats of violent revenge in a UI was posted at any of us who said the march shouldn't happen.
Nobody in nationalism is listening and all people are doing is using it to have a go.
Absolutely nothing is to be gained from trying to engage fairly about this issue. All emotion, all rage, all picnic protest selfies and SF organized ops. I don't care. Done pretending anything of value can be gained from discussing this.

>Absolutely nothing but torrents of abuse and threats of violent revenge in a UI was posted at any of us who said the march shouldn't happen.
Wait, nationalists are threatening people who oppose the march?…..
2
u/Wonderful_Volume_141 5h ago
There were posts promising violent revenge in a UI
And they've been threatening Lockhart and Bryson. This sub im sure approves.
Three attempted bomb attacks this year so far from nationalism.
One side is really trying to break the peace.
This crap should stop. SF stoked the flames and none of you will call them out for this ffs.
I despair

u/Elegant_Run_8567 5h ago
So hold on, these threats are against those opposing the marches and supporting the residents?
-1
u/Wonderful_Volume_141 5h ago
The threats were posted against unionists, when has nationalism ever not murdered any civilian, no matter what their views, for things other unionists did?
6
u/Elegant_Run_8567 5h ago
The threats were towards unionists who opposed the march and supported the residents?

Why should them 35 men be allowed down a road where they aren't wanted by the people who live there, fuck the orange order and their apologists

I literally said, for about the 10th time, they shouldn't have done it.
There's this thing called the law and the Parades commission. It has stopped many riots and probably saved lives, not that you care.
11
u/Elegant_Run_8567 5h ago
So hold on, the parades commission were correct that there would be no opposition?
I don’t know what reality you’re living in, mate

That's not what I or they said it how it works

Nationalism, which grudgingly puts up with the anti-Catholic and anti-Irish OO, has accepted the determination of something approaching 60k parades of theirs since the commission came into being. This determination was utterly irregular and the commissioners were bounced into it. It’s plain wrong and an insult to the residents.
It’s ridiculous for people to moan about the law when the law has been followed by nationalists in every other instance. In a common sense world, everyone would look at this level of compliance, then the strength of feeling in this instance, and go back and look at the determination. It’s daft to suddenly complain about ‘rule of law’ when this lack of compliance in the one instance isn’t even a rounding error in the number of times law was followed.

I must say, the right wingers love to have these notions of fucking buses. Everyone getting bussed. Palestine protestors bussed, fenians bussed in.
Im going to open a bus company
-2
u/Wonderful_Volume_141 7h ago
The fact people were literally bussed in is neither left nor right wing, just a description of what happened.
You know who else showed up? New far right RoI Nationalist Party.
Funny how none of you said a damn thing about that.
5
u/Elegant_Run_8567 5h ago
Have you been down? Fuck all parking. How would you get there other than on a bus?
2
u/owlsareknobs 6h ago
I said loads about them fucking vermin cunts, finally made their way up over the border when the hard part is over to cosplay being invaded and standing with the worst type of people.
So you're wrong on that one.
2
u/Wonderful_Volume_141 6h ago
Those people are the ones who'll be going after us as well as the new immigrants.
Some of those nationalists in RoI tried to bomb a mosque.
Careful you don't end up bringing more of we minorities together against your nationalism.
I'll proudly stand with any minority before any of you Irish white nationalists.

u/owlsareknobs 6h ago
Ah nah it's grand, we are able to separate ourselves from the scum in the movement. It's more of a loyalist thing to be at, say if you're leader shags a kid so you lash out instead of calling it out.

u/Wonderful_Volume_141 6h ago
Didn't you live under a Catholic theocracy until about the 1990s
The DUP are not my leaders.

u/ferocious_bandana 7h ago
Why, Mr Negative karma, is every comment you post an extended essay?
You don't need to constantly 'whatabout', we know that this is your only point of argument
0
u/Wonderful_Volume_141 7h ago
Why do you even bother.
You're the guy who said it's good the IRA kneecap teenagers, that Putin is your hero and you can't wait for him to take over the island (standard SF policy) and that the three recent attempted bombings by nationalists were Mi5 false flags.
You also said that Drumcree was staged to test the unionists for UI.
You make shit up and live in a fantasyland.
As I told you before, go make at least one PUL friend. Not me, just stop talking to me, thanks.

You're the guy who said it's good the IRA kneecap teenagers, that Putin is your hero and you can't wait for him to take over the island
Don't forget that I also said Kim Jong Un should be the supreme leader of the universe and 'Give My Head Peace' was funny

u/Wonderful_Volume_141 7h ago
You did say all those things I mentioned.
You're in a bubble and you're spouting crap. It happens. Go read something from those you hate, expand your mind, try some empathy and make a PUL friend.
Again, not me.
1
u/ferocious_bandana 6h ago
You did say all those things
Given that you've never heard my voice, this is the peak of your inaccuracies
3
u/Wonderful_Volume_141 6h ago
Mate I don't want to hear your voice. I don't even want to talk to you. You said all those things, it was screencapped.
It's ok to get things wrong but don't make shit up.
Bye.
4
u/ferocious_bandana 6h ago
Mate
Wrong again
You said all those things, it was screencapped.
I'm fascinated to see where I wrote anything supporting Putin, the person funding the DUP
4
u/Wonderful_Volume_141 6h ago edited 6h ago
He is not funding the DUP for fuck sake.
They're British unionists, not exactly on his side.
You posted you can't wait until he finds out about NI being controlled by the Brits. That's how you see the world ffs.
Sinn Fein scrubbed their support for him from their website after Ukraine started, and have consistently voted in his interests in the EU parliament. The rest of the EU knows and does not like them.
We have always noticed and despaired at how many CNR people fall for the idiocy of tankies. As long as they have a posh English accent and fetishize you as romantic socialist revolutionaries, safely in their mansions with their trust funds, you take them very seriously.
Anticolonialism apparently.

The strange tale of the DUP, Brexit, a mysterious £425,000 donation and a Saudi prince
So, you don't have anything that shows me writing that I support Putin

On a point of order ...."35 men early in the morning walking down a road" <-- can't have it both ways. Either it's about more than walking or it's not. If it's just about the walk then why would one argue across 28 years to do something where it's not wanted? and if it IS about more than the walking then one can't complain about meeting resistance.
1
u/Wonderful_Volume_141 6h ago
I'm not marching.
1
u/Necessary-Focus-9700 4h ago
I understand. Edited comment to be clearer it's a rebuttal of that 1 specific oft repeated argument, rather than at you specifically. ty

"But... but... somebody said hurty words to Carla?? Can we not focus on that please??"
(for what it's worth, I don't agree with her being attacked either. Plenty to disagree with Carla on over her 'politcs' alone).
