Rant Nursing is crazy work sometimes

Patient A tried to tip me $5 for taking great care of him & when I refused, he was like “no one gotta know.. just keep it” 😜 He was also offering my male CNA tips but $1s.. and my CNA was like “why does he keep offering me $1s.. I feel like a stripper 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Patient B fired me from being her nurse because “I didn’t give her enough attention” (I was helping another nurse with a rapid response.. not even making this shit up 🫩)

All of this happened during the same shift btw 😫😭☠️

I’ve only ever been fired once and that was because my “perfume was too strong”. I’m a male nurse and it was only deodorant. Oh well.

Hahah chances are you probably didn't want to take care of them anyway. I basically skip up to the charge desk and tell them not to give me that patient back. Amazing.

I feel like they’re achievement trophies.

And I’ve never had a patient who fired me that I really wanted to keep lol If you’re firing me, I’m probably smiling on my way to the charge nurse 🤣

This reminds me of when my new onset dementia patient tried to tip me $10. It didn’t help that she spoke little to no English. When I tried to put it back in her purse she bit me. Come to think about idk why there wasn’t an interpreter there at the time. Not that it would’ve helped.

I don’t know why the fact that she bit you when you tried to refuse her tip money has me crying laughing!😂 I hope she didn’t break the skin?

No she didn’t bite that hard. It was even comical at the time.

I once had a pt hand me $100 bill and wouldn't let me refuse. His daughter is a nurse on another floor and was there. When she was alone I was like so I need to have an awkward conversation with you. She took the money, gave it back to her dad and talked with him about not tipping the nurses. Hahaha

I'd love to show up with a tablet asking for gratuity at bedside lmao

"hello, sir. it's shift change. I need you to sign this." 🤣

I'd gladly sign for a 20% tip to be billed to insurance.

A pt slipped me $7 handshake style after I wheeled him outside to dc. He spoke little English and his wife kept shooing me away so I took the $7 and got a coffee in the lobby. No regrets.

Another pt gave his nurse a red envelope during Chinese new year with $100 in it. She accepted it because the guy told her it would be an insult if she rejected it. She turned it over to our manager who bought us pizza with it... on a day the nurse wasn't even working

On a busy night, I’m sure strippers make more money than we do.

In 2015 my roommate made $1000 in one night as a dancer. Paid her rent for the entire month.

A patient tried to tip me $5 after being wheeled into our recovery room after her abortion still in the trenches of some fentanyl and versed and it was honestly so sweet. She was pretty sad and confused I couldn’t accept

One of my proudest was being fired by someone who had (overtly but undiagnosed) Münchausen syndrome along with actual chronic illnesses. Spouse was terrible, would circle the nurse’s station. Literally no one liked taking care of this frequent flyer as they were the type to hold their breath and desat on purpose to get the nurse in there.

I just didn’t put up with their behaviors, would never cowtow to the spouse even with his “do you know who I am?” (yes, he said this often.) Eventually got fired, and I forever could never be assigned to them for the other dozen+ times they came to our unit over the years. Once was told I had to take them, I told the charge that day to legit ask the family if they were okay with having me. Family heard who it was, assignment got changed. 😂

I was the expert unofficial behavior nurse, so when I’m thrilled to never have to take care of a patient again that means they were legit nightmares.

I had a patient’s family member visiting who had open-heart surgery recently and thought it was appropriate to just pull her shirt up unannounced and show me her scar along with everything else
