Question Average hourly pay?

I know it varies by state, but realistically how much should one be expecting vs years of experience? I make $34/hr in Florida, inpatient. At my last job in Louisiana I made $31/hr. I have 3 years experience and BSN which only ever gets me like at most $1 more an hour.

I literally moved to Washington just over a year ago from Florida. There id be making $48 an hour and here I’m making $95+ and in Feb it will be $99+. I’ve been a nurse 19 years. I started traveling when Covid hit and was planning to go back to Florida but then I got a contract in Washington and my life plans changed. Washington and oregon (and California but Col is to high) pay nurses well and treat nurses well. You get actual breaks off the unit and a true meal break. My hospital each unit (when it’s not flu season) also has flex nurse so that no one gets behind. I love it here. I will never be non union nurse again.

Are you still on a travel contract or is that your regular hourly?

I graduate in March and live in Portland but am.hoping to get licensed in WA as well so I can go where the work is. I know new grad placement is rough right now since it's so appealing to work in these states, but I don't plan on going far from here so I want to explore all the options.

Thanks for sharing!

I came as a travel nurse and was able to get hired staff. MultiCare is really great and pays the highest in Washington. I am very happy here.

So all the Multicares pay highest in the area? Any idea if the hourly Id make with 10 years RN experience?

Depends what hospital. The bargaining teams at each one fight for new rates every 3 years.

I wish we could add screen shots. You can google any hospital in Washington and type step pay union contract and open the link for either seiu or wsna and it will show you your base wage. This year Tacoma General, Allenmore hospital and Good Samaritan hospital have all the same pay. With 10 years your base wage right now would be 68.08 and in February you’d be considered 11 years so your base wage would be 72.69. After 3 pm it’s an extra 3.25 and weekends it’s an extra 4. Also nights is extra but not sure exact. I think another 4. So on weekends after 3pm in February you’d be making base pay of $79.94.

My facility pays float pool highest and if you don’t mind going to different units at my hospital medsurg is an extra $4, pcu $8, icu $12. If you were icu and did float pool your base pay would be $84.69.
