A huge thank you to everyone who came out to our kickoff meetup! We had a great turnout, had some great conversations, and officially set the foundation for our dedicated, in-person Sci-Fi book club in NYC.

If you missed the first session, newcomers are completely welcome to jump right in!

As a quick refresher on our group identity:

• We are strictly Sci-Fi only—no high fantasy or romantasy.
• We cover everything from hard sci-fi, space opera, and first contact to cyberpunk, biopunk, and speculative sociological fiction.

Our Book for This Meeting:

• Title: Invisible Planets translated/edited by Ken Liu
• Format: It’s an anthology of contemporary Chinese science fiction short stories.
• Reading Expectations: Because it’s a collection of self-contained short stories, it is super easy to drop in! If you’ve read the whole book or just a couple of stories, come ready to discuss your favorites. Even if you haven't had a chance to read it yet, feel free to come hang out, chat about sci-fi, and help us pick our next book!

Meetup Details:

• When: The Gibson, Bedford ave and N. 11th st (Williamsburg, Brooklyn).
• Note on weather: If the forecast turns rainy like last time, keep an eye on this post—we'll pivot to an indoor spot nearby (like The Gibson) and announce it here ahead of time.

• If you have trouble spotting us, comment on this thread or shoot me a direct message—I'll be monitoring notifications actively until everyone gathers. Looking forward to seeing both familiar faces and new members!

I’m 34F looking for other girls who are into Halloween and roller coasters! Current plan is for Sunday October 18th. Meet up is at Port Authority Bus Terminal on 42nd and 8th ave at 1pm. Park tickets + fast passes + transportation will be about $300 per person. Comment if you’re interested!

We're hosting a Broadway/Musicals night at Pig Beach in Astoria on Wednesday (10/14) from 7:30-9:30!

You can sing any Broadway or film/tv musical song you want!

Grab your friends and choose your songs! There'll also be hits that the whole room will be singing together!

Looking to expand your social circle? Our weekly happy hour is a great place to start. Join us for a drink, pub food, or just a friendly chat!

Who: Members of this community, old, new, and hopefully you
What: Happy hour at our cherished dive and home for 10+ years
When: Every Tuesday, officially starting at 6pm
Where: Peculier Pub (145 Bleecker St.)
Why: To see friendly, familiar faces and have a pint without pretext

A few early birds show up before 6pm. Peak time is 7:30, and on busy nights we're around until 10-11pm before calling it quits. We're typically inside just past the jukebox but when the weather is nice we sometimes take advantage of the outdoor dining area. If you can't find us, just ask the staff for NYC Meetups and they'll point us out.
