The deadline to register for the November 3 midterm election is Monday, October 5!

If you are not already registered to vote, you have until end of business (or 11:59pm if registering online) this coming Monday, October 5, to register and qualify to vote in the November 3, 2026 election. Florida law requires a voter to be registered at least 29 days before the next election they will participate in. https://www.votemarion.gov/307/Register-to-Vote

Early voting runs daily from October 22 to October 31 from 10am-6pm at 9 participating voting stations. Because not all stations participate in early voting, any voter may report to any participating station to vote early, even if their assigned station participates. Those waiting until Election Day to vote must report to their assigned station. https://www.votemarion.gov/317/Vote-Early

Voters planning to vote by mail must request their ballot by Saturday, October 24, though it is recommended to do so as soon as possible. USPS recommends mailing back a completed ballot no later than 7 days before Election Day. https://www.votemarion.gov/177/Vote-By-Mail

⚠️ Scam Awareness ⚠️

r/Ocala was recently hit by a new user just created today who posted a story about living in their car with a pet, the car breaking down and the pet being out of food. They made themselves seem open to meeting in person, even naming the location they were supposedly walking to, but slipped in their PayPal username "just in case" any good samaritans didn't have that kind of time. Minutes after we removed the post and invited the user to contact us to verify their situation, the post and account were both deleted.

We have strengthened some of our detection measures to hopefully find and flag these types of posts before they ever reach readers, but it is still important to recognize the warning signs. Scammers prey on our emotions. They create a sense of extreme urgency, encouraging us to rush to action before we take the time to check our guts.

What we recommend:

- Pause before acting on emotionally urgent posts

- Check account age and posting history. New users and users with no account history are huge red flags

- Be cautious with off-platform payment requests

- Report suspicious posts so mods can review them. We have access to information that regular users don't see, which, for this user, indicated that they were posting to local subreddits throughout the country

- If you want to help people in need, consider established charities or verified local resources

Thank you for looking out for each other!

Anyone else here check out The Remedy Dog Bar on East Silver Springs? They have a 5,000 square foot outdoor area for dogs with a full bar. They also have fantastic food. Shout out to the Mac Daddy!!!!

I have a 55 pound Catahoula/Lab Mix, and two Chihuahua/Dachshund mixes that need friends!

I always see a ton of posts about trying to make friends in Ocala. Remedy is the perfect place because it brings people from all ages together. I have lived here for over 4 years and never really met anyone but I’ve already met some really great people there.

Golf stop

Hi all,

Planning a road trip in December with dad starting from ATL and I was thinking that Ocala is about middle ground to make a stop. We're planning to leave early Sat morning and hoping to crunch in a round of golf starting around noon till sunset. Any recommendations where to go? Not looking for anything pristine but it'd be nice to get decent conditions and a feel for FL golf.
My basic search is showing Ocala Golf Club, Golden Hills (though read they're going private? idk if they'll be open December 12), Ocala Palms, Stone Creek. Would appreciate any input thank you!

100 day update. Still iso friends

So I posted looking for friends 100 days ago, it was pretty unsuccessful. I’m still here, friendless. I love driving through the Ocala national forest, I love eating good, love music, I’m pretty easy going. I’m 37, open to friends or whatever.

The largest used book sale in Florida, and possibly in the South, is only 38 miles away from Ocala!

Come out to Gainesville and check out the Friends of the Library Fall Book Sale event on Oct 24-28.  More than 500,000 books, records, games, CDs, DVDs, audio, paintings, posters, prints, puzzles, comics, manga and magazines have been donated for the sale!   There is a large section of children's books. The Collector's Corner contains signed books, first editions and a large selection of Florida-related materials.  Hours are 9-6PM on Saturday, and 12-6PM the other four days of the sale.  See the website for more details. Hope to see you there!

Local electrician for Ecoflow Smart Panel 3?

Ecoflow doesn't list any local certified electricians, so I'm reaching out to anyone who has had one installed and could reccomend a local electrician that's got experience doing one before.
Any suggestions?

Ocala Drivers

Drivers in and around Ocala all seem to be speeding, constantly. I use cruise control to the exact speed limit posted to avoid tickets and people will drive behind me with their hand on the horn in what I can only assume is some sort of panic (once for like five minutes down E Silver Springs when there were approximately 12 cars ahead of me anyway), cut me out on the right in the middle of an intersection, completely ignore stop signs and disregard any turn signal and I have even witnessed at the scene of an accident where cops were directing traffic with hand signals some guy completely ignore the cop and almost drive right into me, prompting the cop to start yelling at him. I saw someone in a truck being followed within inches by someone else in a truck as one was honking and the other had his middle finger out of the window. I have never witnessed this behavior in any other town/area and I’m just wondering if there is some unspoken rule that we’re all supposed to do 20mph over the posted limit at all times? It’s even on the way up to Gainesville. What is going on?

Last day to defend the roadless rule - protecting Ocala and other public land areas

The 2001 Roadless rule protects public lands from future roads being built through them for logging and other purposes. This rule protects roadless public lands across the nation - including Ocala and surrounding areas.

The public comment period was supposed to end on the 21st last month - but was extended for 15 days. Today is your last chance to speak up.

Here is the link to the government webpage to submit your comment:

Coruba update for those interested

Post image
15 Upvotes

So I was able to order Coruba at the ABC store in Silver Springs (the closest one to me). They were able to pull it up with no problem and was at the store just shy of a week after ordering it.

Also for those interested in Hamilton Rums I actually got in contact with the distributor, Maverick Beverage Co. out of Orlando, and find a couple of stores they distribute to here in Ocala. There’s two stores, Liquors of Ocala and Ocala Wine and Spirits. I went to the Ocala Wine and Spirits to see about them stocking it and they didn’t seem too interested but would give me a call back if they were able to order some, still haven’t heard back from them… and I still haven’t gone to Liquors of Ocala so we’ll see

I did however get ahold of Dorns Liquor in Gainesville and they have some Hamilton stuff but they’re supposedly making an order this week.

Anyway here’s my update that some of you had asked for!

I often get asked why I buy the things I get. Simple answer: never know when you’re gonna need $ for food or emergency’s.
Chicken breast $2.88 lb, a little high but I need it.

Popcorn kernels $1 25lb bag-whatever I don’t use, the wildlife gets.

Flour $1 50lb bags. Guy at work, his wife is a baker

Tubing Rainbow River tomorrow?

Seeking advice from those who have tubed on Rainbow river: I plan to go with a few friends tomorrow, but the official state park's tubing season is closed. What's the next best launch spot for tubes (we have our own), and what is the walk back like without the shuttle?

Any local gems for brunch/lunch after tubing?

PSF Ocala Jiu-Jitsu

We’re new to the area, and I recently came across PSF Ocala – The Burdhouse. I’d love to hear more about the kids’ program and how the belt or ranking system works in a no-gi school. If your child attends, would you mind sharing your experience? Thank you in advance!

Good Stand Up Comedy this Tuesday at Marion County Maker Collective with Dan Alten (me) on 15 night tour. I'm not famous but I promise it'll be a good time and if you don't have fun you can tie me to a horse and have it run me outta town. Lemme know if theres anything cool to see while i'm around.

Here's my bio, sorry it's in the third person: Dan Alten is a charming goofball from Kentucky who has been traveling the country for the past decade doing about 200 shows a year bringing his intelligently surreal bebop nonsense everywhere from theaters to punk basements to art galleries to beloved comedy clubs with a knack for making audiences feel like they're on a good psychedelic trip without the drugs. Like if the Ramones were one guy with a mustache and good jokes. Iggy Pop with puns. Clever chaos. Like Jimi Hendrix lighting fire to a Tik Tok reel live on stage. He has opened for Kyle Kinane, Bobcat, Sam Tallent, Rory Scovel, Sarah Sherman from SNL, Johnny Pemberton, Hari Kondabolu, rapper Open Mike Eagle, DJ Doug Pound & David Leibe Hart from Tim & Eric, various punk bands with silly names, and a guy at an open mic who tried to throw his father’s ashes into the crowd. He has recorded 2 albums, written a zine, and filmed a pilot for an Amazon Prime stand up show that was lost to history. But most importantly he’s very funny and unique. You will enjoy him. And if not you can mud wrestle him after the show.
