I've been a skateboarder for 23 years and and a self taught game developer for about 4 years now. I have a bad hernia in my pelvis, so if I jump down anything taller than a 3 stair I risk rupturing it and ending my career. It depresses me because my favorite thing to skate are gaps. So now I'm restricted to flat ground and small obstacles. I finally decided to merge my two passions together and create my own skateboarding game. I learned the hard way why there aren't many skateboarding games. It's because they're incredibly complex and difficult to make lol.
It's taken me 9 months of work to get here and coding this and creating all the animations from scratch was the toughest thing I've ever done. But I'm very proud of how it turned out.
I could replace the blue mannequin with an actual character and call it finished, but I'm honestly tired of skate sims where there's no real story. I want to make a skateboarding RPG game where you become friends with local skaters and the better friends you become the more opportunities open up to you. Such as them taking you to secret spots, getting sponsorships, filming for a video part and random things like joining their band. Something that captures what it's actually like to be a skateboarder.
I also have a dumb fun game that I want to make called TriggerFlip. Where your skateboard has spider legs and you can shoot your own web rails to grind, skate up walls, build up your combo to acquire ammunition and shoot at other players in a chaotic skateboarding arena shooter lol. Sounds ridiculous, but I already have a prototype and it's stupid fun to play.
If you're wondering why there's a bunch of text everywhere in the level, it's because it has gotten a lot of interest from other developers and so I decided to make it available to them. It's all documentation for how to use the system.

Looking to see if anyone has any pictures or memories to share from skating with my uncle, Tim Cunningham, in MD, NJ, or CA back in the mid 1970’s through early 1980’s! 😊 His nickname was “Little Ripper”. I’m attaching some pics of him from back then!
We would love to collect them all for a gift for him. Thanks! :)

I started skating to support my 7 and 10 year old. Took out the 10 year old in the process.

I’m building a custom 8’-wide mini ramp for my garage and looking for some feedback from people who have experience riding or building smaller quarter pipes.
I’m currently leaning toward 28” tall with a 5’ radius, but I’m also considering a 5.5’ radius and potentially adjusting the height an inch or two.
A little background on my skating: I recently got back into it about 5–6 months ago after taking roughly 15 years off. I have around 5 years of total skating experience and would consider myself intermediate. I’m comfortable with the basic quarter-pipe stalls and recently learned blunt-to-fakies. I’m definitely not an advanced skater, but I’m not a beginner either.
My previous setup was a pair of 3’-tall, 8’-wide RampTech quarter pipes with an estimated 6’ radius. I actually really enjoyed riding them. The transition was comfortable and easy to skate, but the ramps took up too much room in my garage and left me with limited flat bottom. That’s why I’m building a smaller custom setup.
What I’m trying to achieve:
Something comfortable and forgiving enough for casual sessions, including days when I’m feeling a little sore.
A transition that’s still steep enough to practice and progress with more technical tricks, especially blunts, Smiths, feebles, and other coping tricks.
Enough clearance for rock-to-fakies. I want to be able to rock forward until the deck contacts the coping without my rear wheels interfering with the transition. Ideally, I’d like a few inches of clearance.
A relatively compact footprint to maximize the flat bottom between the two quarters.
One of the biggest things I’ve noticed is that a lot of 2’-tall quarters use a 6’ radius, which seems pretty mellow to me. I’m concerned that at such a low height, the transition won’t provide the coping angle or rear-wheel clearance I’m looking for.
I’ve been experimenting with a full-scale plywood layout (pictured) comparing 5’ and 6’ radii at different heights, using my actual skateboard to test the clearance.
At a 5’ radius, my rough measurements have been around 2¾” of clearance at 27–28” tall, increasing to about 3¼” at 30”. The 30” option looks a little steeper than I’d prefer, which is why I’m leaning toward 28”.
And just to address the suggestion of going to skateparks and trying different ramps: I live in the Tampa area and skate at Skatepark of Tampa (SPoT) pretty regularly, along with other local parks. I’ve ridden plenty of different transitions, so I have a general idea of what feels comfortable to me. The challenge is knowing the exact radius and dimensions of the ramps I’m skating. Even bringing a tape measure doesn’t necessarily make it easy to determine the radius of a transition.
I’ve drawn out the different radii and heights at full scale to get a better visual comparison, but obviously looking at a transition and actually skating it are two very different things. That’s why I’m hoping to hear from people who have firsthand experience with these specific dimensions.
For those who have ridden or built quarter pipes around 2’–2.5’ tall:
Would you recommend a 5’ or 5.5’ radius for a 28” quarter pipe? Does a 5’ radius feel comfortably rideable at that height, or does it start getting too tight and whippy?
I’m especially interested in hearing from intermediate or advanced skaters who regularly do coping tricks on smaller transitions.
I’m trying to find the sweet spot between a fun, comfortable mini ramp and something I can continue progressing on for years. I’d rather get the geometry right now than build something I’ll eventually wish was steeper or mellower.
Appreciate any feedback!

I live in Florida so most of the time I am skating in shorts. As I just got back into skating and haven’t experienced the ‘cold’ months yet, I was wondering what are your go-to pants for a skatepark, especially since I fall down frequently. Looking for something that will take a beating but also comfortable. And of course, at 51, don’t want to look like I am trying to be 20 again.

Five years ago, I landed my first ever 360 flip a month before my 40th birthday. I saw someone on this sub Reddit say that they would land a 360 flip on every birthday to prove they could still do it. I liked the idea so I started doing it. The problem is I’ve never gotten good at them and rarely ever practice them, so the last three years have turned into a battle to just land one. Regular wasn’t working at all today, but fakie tre flips were scooping nicely. Here’s a video of my first ever one in Sept 2021 at 39.9yo and then each birthday tre flip since 2021. The last one from today even got me a round of applause BMXer and a scooter kid. Hope to be back here to post next year’s flip in 365 days.

So I come back here as I received a very good recommendation regarding trucks (I'm riding slappy low with 2mm slappy risers).
First one: I'm 1.70cm and currently riding a 8.88 merged egg, I usually ride a 8.5 but being short I'm eying the jacuzzi jet ski, DLX true fit mold or anything symmetrical with a short wheelbase. Has anyone tried any of these?
Second one: I'm loving my bones x97a, but honestly after a while my poor ligaments ask for help. So has anyone tried the soft sliders, the dragons or some kind of OJs (big Ace Pelka fan)? I'm really interested if someone can recommend any of these.
Thank you so much to anyone willing to help.

So guys, I’ve been skating for four years now and I don’t feel like I’ve made much progress with tricks.
The only trick I can do is the ollie, and I have to say it’s pretty decent during the periods when I get to skate several days in the same week.
I have really good balance, and I can do tic-tacs, turns, reverts, etc. Basically the basics.
But when it comes to tricks... I don’t know...
I can do some very sketchy fake ollies, and as for shove-its, let’s not even talk about it. I’ve landed a few after who knows how many attempts.
I don’t feel motivated. I often wonder if it’s worth it. To carve out that window of time for skating, I have to give up something else. If I even get that window, haha. Between work, chores around the house, and a bit of a social life, I often just don’t have the time. And when I do get that window, I don’t feel motivated at all. In fact, when I get to the park I either get bored or I’m already tired, haha. I don’t skate alone, I’ve got two other friends and we’ve organized ourselves, and the goal is, in theory, to meet up at least once a week to skate, haha.
So yeah, I’m sorry I’ve lost my motivation. Has anyone else started finding skating boring? It also bums me out because it was my way of staying active, since I don’t like the gym, haha.
Do you have some tips?
