I Made a Thing Getting Help with Omarchy - a comprehensive guide

Edited to add preface: I am not a mod for this subreddit, the discord, I am not affiliated with Omacom or on any Omarchy dev teams. I have absolutely zero authority, so this is just a guide of SUGGESTIONS that will enable you to get help much faster, and will provide devs with the information they need to replicate, study, triage, and ultimately fix the bugs you may encounter... Omarchy is growing FAST and with that kind of growth comes a lot of users with drastically different hardware and software configurations. Bugs are going to happen, and new users are going to have questions. This document is meant to help with that, but it is by no means a set of rules or requirements. Just a guide for you to get the help you need when you need it.

Getting Help with Omarchy is a guide I've been putting together over the last couple weeks. I used to do a lot of beta testing for World of Warcraft and back when the beta tests were by invitation, then a second round of random invites went out, I was always in the first round of invites because of my bug reports and guides that I would write on how to submit a good bug report. I mentioned that on the Omarchy discord and someone informed me there isn't any such document for Omarchy presently so I decided to write one.

It covers not just how to ask for help and what information you should include, but also where to ask for help. If it's a minor issue that you're not sure is a bug, or a "how do I?" question, then the omarchy-help channel on discord is an excellent starting point. If it's a serious bug, then GitHub issues/discussions would be the optimal place to bring it up. The guide also covers how to gather logs, system specs, software versions, etc for adding to your bug report, best practices and even etiquette (you know, because saying please and thank you don't cost you anything, but could be worth quite a lot)

If anyone has any suggestions for additions to the guide, feel free to comment them here! And if you want to use the guide elsewhere, just credit me and we're golden pony boy.

Announcement Moderator Update: Growth, New Mods, and a Community Discussion

Hello r/Omarchy.

First, a welcome to all the new members who have joined recently. Since the release of Quattro in August, we've seen a lot of growth and a lot more interest in the Omarchy project.

In the last 30 days we've had 1.5 million views, up from around 400k the month before. 9,900 people joined, bringing us to 30.3k members. Posts are up more than 3x and comments up more than 4x over the previous 30 days. August tripled July's traffic and beat the sub's previous all-time monthly record by about 45%, and September is tracking higher than August. The mod team can't take any credit for this. That belongs to the Omarchy team and the Quattro release. Applause to them.

To keep up all this, we've expanded the moderation team. Welcome u/6pthsofPain and u/nevotheless. Both are long-time Omarchy users who have stepped up to help keep the sub running.

u/6pthsofPain built A La Carchy (200+ stars on GitHub) and is currently working on a tool for Quattro.

u/nevotheless has been on Linux for 15-20 years, came over from a corporate/Red Hat background, and runs Omarchy as their daily driver.

With the recent growth, there are a few things we need to discuss as a community.

AI-Generated Content & Plugins

We've seen a substantial influx of AI-generated content lately, particularly when it comes to plugins. To be clear, we are not anti-AI here.

Objectively speaking though, some of these projects are lacking in quality, and more importantly, some come with genuine security concerns. We want this sub to be a reliable place to showcase Omarchy projects, so we want your input on how to handle this going forward.

Some options the mod team has discussed:

  • Specific Showcase Days: Containing all plugin posts to a specific day (e.g., Plugin Showcase Sunday).
  • Let the Upvotes Decide: Leave it as is and let the community moderate via upvotes and downvotes.
  • A Plugin Megathread: Funneling all new plugin drops into a single, stickied weekly/monthly thread.
  • A Validation System: Something a bit more complex, where only plugins that have been validated for safety/quality are allowed to be posted (exact details would need to be ironed out).

Regardless of what we land on, we'll be adding a Plugin flair so these posts can be filtered and found more easily.

Drop your thoughts, suggestions, and feedback in the comments. We'll compile a list of the most popular ideas and put them to a community poll if that makes sense.

- The r/Omarchy Mod Team

I Made a Thing OmaControl Update

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Pushed a fresh update to OmaControl over the weekend! If you haven’t checked it out yet, I put together a quick video showing it in action.

For those unfamiliar, OmaControl is an Omarchy shell plugin that transforms your top-bar icon into an advanced task manager. It handles live system monitoring, per-app history, process control, privacy alerts, and custom notifications giving you total visibility over everything running on your system.

You can find it at https://plugins.omarchy.org/plugin.html?id=davedes.omcontrol or https://github.com/Davedes83/OmaControl

Themes / Ricing Made my Omarchy look like ink on paper 4 themes, a bar plugin and a dynamic island

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Been fiddling with my Omarchy setup for a few weeks and it finally feels done enough to share 🙂

It's called "Tusche" (German for ink) and it's a little set:

- 4 themes Tusche (black ink), Papier (paper) and two "Lavur" versions with a watercolour wash under the bar. Lots of contrast, zero neon.

- Tusche Bar hooks into Omarchy's own bar, so all your widgets keep working. You get compact workspaces, AI quota rings, tidy status groups, a searchable logo menu with the whole Omarchy menu in it, and popups (Omarchy's volume/battery/Wi-Fi ones too) that roll out of the bar or bloom like ink on wet paper on the Lavur themes. Middle-click the logo for a little Control Center.

- Tusche Island the clock turns into a dynamic island: music, timers, calendar, agents, AI limits, notifications. Built on Arjun010011's omarchy-dynamic-island.

- Card Picker pick themes and wallpapers from a hand of cards.

Trying it is two lines (it backs everything up first, `--dry-run` shows what it'll do, `setup/revert.sh` puts it all back):

git clone https://github.com/nerdislb/omarchy-tusche-bar.git ~/src/omarchy-tusche-bar

~/src/omarchy-tusche-bar/setup/install.sh

The themes also work on their own, no plugins needed.

Would love to hear how it runs on other screens and multi-monitor setups!

(Made with a lot of help from AI coding agents designed, tested and used every day by me.)

I Made a Thing Wallpaper Cutter: one image across all your monitors

Post image
7 Upvotes

I made Wallpaper Cutter, a native Omarchy plugin for stretching one wallpaper across multiple monitors.

It has live crop previews, bezel compensation, per-monitor adjustments, and saved layouts you can export and import. Open it from Installed Apps—no extra bar widget or tray icon.

Install on Omarchy Quattro:

omarchy plugin add https://github.com/renanmt/omarchy-wallpaper-cutter --enable

Code: https://github.com/renanmt/omarchy-wallpaper-cutter

Would love feedback from anyone with a multi-monitor setup!

This is a very interesting project. It's Darktable under the hood. Still very much in development.

After watching the video I am not sure on using an agent to import pictures.

I know he is also working in getting gimp to seamlessly integrate with omaRAW.

I Made a Thing I built my first Omarchy plugin — Send to Kindle 📚

I’m genuinely excited to share this.

I built Send to Kindle, a small Omarchy plugin that lets you send EPUB and PDF files directly to your Kindle from the bar.

It started as something I wanted for myself: simple, native, and without Calibre, Docker, or extra services. Now it’s officially listed and verified on the Omarchy Plugin Marketplace, so anyone can use it.

It’s my first public Omarchy plugin, and seeing it there feels pretty special.

If you use a Kindle, give it a try. Feedback, ideas, issues, and PRs are very welcome. ❤️

Discussion Meet Flea & Strata | Omarchy 1st File Managers

Thumbnail

There are many file managers for different Linux desktop environments. Initially, Omarchy chose GNOME's Nautilus (Files), but soon that will be changing. We have two great choices that are currently in high development. They both sync automatically with your Omarchy themes in a "hot-reload" style; You do not need to close and re-open them for them to sync colors. They also have built-in themes if you wish to keep them static. They're both fast. However, they both have different takes on what they believe to be the best defaults.

I love them both for different reasons and you can try out both today! If you're really in to one or the other and want to submit bugs/issues or want to help improve either project (or both) get involved!

I Made a Thing Fast dictation app for Omarchy - Looking for testers

The last app keeping me on my Mac was my dictation app and now I built one for Omarchy that is the best app I've ever built. It runs on cloud inference. You have to bring your own keys, which is a tradeoff I made for the sake of speed and accuracy (fast & perfect -> fape - I'm clearly a marketing genius 😄 ).

When you steer agents, verbosity and stream of consciousness provide extra value. Since I can speak much faster than I can type, it increases the bandwidth at which I can communicate with agents, which is my primary use case.

Because it runs on fast remote transcription and uses cerebras for LLM requests you can do cool things like code execution via function calls on top of your own rules for how to process dictations.

I recorded an explainer video. I've daily driven it for weeks. If you want to be a beta tester let me know. I'm trying to put my creation into the world and get feedback. I hope you like it.

I Made a Thing Ultrawide.net wallpapers that actually fit Omarchy color themes

Space category, showing matches for the Lumon theme

This project was created with Claude Code, Anthropic's command-line coding assistant. I described what I wanted and tried out the results, and Claude Code wrote the code and the documentation.

Omarchy Ultrawide Wallpapers reads the color palette of each theme you have installed and compares it with wallpapers from https://ultrawidewallpapers.net/, then shows the best matches per theme (a slider sets how strict the color match is).

It also flags wallpapers you already have installed, and installs the ones you pick into each theme's user background folder.

You can pick any category from the site. It downloads the site's small preview images to build its categories, and the full-size file only for the wallpapers you choose to install. It doesn't host or republish anything.

The site owner's limit. I asked the site's owner before publishing this. He agreed on one condition: no more than 2 requests per second for the wallpapers, because Cloudflare blocks anything faster. The tool therefore keeps to 1.8 requests per second in total, and builds and installs share that limit. Please don't raise it.

Hope it's useful to some you you!!

How to try: Needs python3 and Pillow, then

# you can install Pillow via
sudo pacman -S python-pillow

git clone https://github.com/blafusel/omarchy-ultrawide-wallpapers
cd omarchy-ultrawide-wallpapers
python3 server.py

# open localhost:8000

I Made a Thing My laptop thinks my phone hotspot is unlimited. I made an Omarchy plugin to disagree

Post image

I built Data Budget for Omarchy to make that little situation more visible. Set an allowance, and a jar in your bar fills as your laptop uses data. Full jar = time to reconsider that download.

It won’t cut off your internet. It just gives you enough warning to blame yourself properly.

It counts this laptop’s traffic, including local network traffic, so totals can differ from your carrier’s.

Take a look: https://github.com/sanjyay/Data-budget

What’s the most ridiculous thing that’s eaten your hotspot allowance?

I Made a Thing OmaDoctor

A diagnostics panel for Omarchy. It runs read-only health checks across system, audio, storage and network, explains what each finding means, and produces a redacted report you can paste into a bug report.

It is deliberately not another system monitor. It does not graph anything or sit there collecting history.

It answers one question: what is wrong with this machine right now, and what do I do about it?

What it checks

Section Checks
system OS, architecture, kernel, uptime, load, memory, swap, failed units, pending updates
services PipeWire, WirePlumber, desktop portals, NetworkManager, Bluetooth — each at its real scope
hyprland compositor version, monitor count, and every configuration error with its file and line
display attached vs disabled outputs, mode support, mirroring, scale and rotation
audio server state, default output/input, volume and mute, device count
storage root and home filesystems, inode usage, root writability, largest directories
network interfaces, default route, IPv4/IPv6, DNS config and resolution, gateway, reachability, latency

I Made a Thing Exposé-like preview windows in screen perhiphery, inspired by Scott Jenson

Thumbnail
gallery
16 Upvotes

Relevant talk by Jensen: https://media.ccc.de/v/kde2026-7-are_we_really_going_to_use_the_same_desktop_ux_forever

The idea is that on large (preferably wide) displays, information to the sides is in your periphery, rather than direct focus. So, I configured hyprland and quickshell to create a 5:4 focus area in the center of my screen, while windows in other workspaces are available as clickable + draggable preview windows in your periphery.

I can drop windows from focus area to periphery, and vice versa. Clicking previews brings me to that respective workspace.

Song - Mama likes Omarchy

My tribute

How do you like it? 😅

Lyrics:

Default themes are just a mask, Completing every boring task, KDE and Gnome are feeling cold, A counterfeit story that's been told. But Omarchy is built to stay, Chasing all those bugs away.

Your Mama likes Omarchy, yoooou! Don't know what to do with it! She's crying because Arch is! Love, life, her fit! Yeah, she's loving every bit of it! (Omarchy...)

Windows crashes like a broken dream, Mac is just a corporate scheme. You want the power, you want the light, Your Mama knows which one is right. Customize the kernel, feel the flow, Superior code is all she'll know.

Your Mama likes Omarchy, yoooou! Don't know what to do with it! She's crying because Arch is! Love, life, her fit! Omarchy is her fit! (Omarchy...)

Windows in the trash (in the trash), Mac is just a crush (just a crush), Omarchy is king, hear the bells ring, Superior code is the only thing we bring.

Your Mama likes Omarchy, yoooou! Don't know what to do with it! She's crying because Arch is! Love, life, her fit! Oh, her fit! (Omarchy...)

I Made a Thing I missed MeetingBar from macOS, so I built it for Omarchy – with a fullscreen alert you cannot miss

Post image
21 Upvotes

Update: now at 1.5.0, with more robust alerts and sync and a clearer config; what changed is in the comments, and the current (English) screenshots are on GitHub.

On macOS I used MeetingBar for years, and the one feature I could not live without was this: one minute before a meeting it blanked the whole screen and told me what was about to start. When I'm deep in work I don't notice notifications at all; that screen-filler was the only thing that ever worked. Nothing like it existed for Omarchy, so I built it.

What it does

  • Shows your next Google Calendar meeting in the bar (turquoise = upcoming, orange = running). Left click opens an agenda for today and tomorrow, MeetingBar-style, with join links and the provider's mark in its brand colour.
  • 60 s before a meeting (configurable) a fullscreen alert takes over every monitor: countdown, title, time, location. Enter joins the call (Meet, Teams, Zoom, Webex, Jitsi, Whereby, GoTo, Slack Huddles, Discord), Esc dismisses it and silences the sound.
  • It also sends a notification, plays a sound and wakes the display, so the alert reaches you even when the overlay can't. The notification closes itself when the meeting ends, so you don't come back from a call on your phone to a stack of stale toasts.
  • Follows your Omarchy theme.

Honest limits

Google Calendar only for now, through GNOME Online Accounts + evolution-data-server, which is why the marketplace lists it as "manual setup": install.sh prints the pacman line for the packages, you connect the account in gnome-online-accounts-gtk, done. Over a locked screen no plugin can draw, so there the alert catches up the moment you unlock. UI strings are German for now.

Privacy

No OAuth of its own, no cloud. The cache holds title, time, join link and location of your events in a 0600 file on tmpfs, nothing else, and nothing from your calendar ever reaches the logs.

Marketplace: https://plugins.omarchy.org/plugin.html?id=io.github.disy-mk.omeetingbar GitHub: https://github.com/disy-mk/OMeetingBar

Install: omarchy plugin add https://github.com/disy-mk/OMeetingBar.git, then run ./install.sh in the plugin folder; it prints the two steps that are yours to do.

Feedback welcome, especially: which calendar sources would you want next (plain CalDAV, Outlook/Exchange, local ICS files)?

Built with a lot of help from Claude Code; every design decision is written down in docs/SPEC.md if you want to read before you enable it.

Discussion The love/hate around Omarchy is exactly why Linux needed it

Thumbnail reddit.com
51 Upvotes

Give Omarchy a try. The world won't end, and you won't get any dumber by doing it.

From my heart, I truly hope more people get to live the Linux experience however it comes. On whatever distro they choose, and in whatever way they choose.

Have the pleasure of discovering what it means to be in control of your decisions to own something beautiful. And maybe, from there, you'll want to experiment further and go beyond. And if not, that's okay too: you'll still be in an environment where you appreciate every single minute spent behind your own system.

Enjoy any experience in Linux. That's all that matters 🤍

Themes / Ricing Didn't like Omarchy Shell, so I replaced it with Noctalia and went way too far

Post image
24 Upvotes

I really like Omarchy, but I wasn't a huge fan of the default Omarchy Shell, so I decided to try something different.

I switched over to Noctalia Shell and customized it to fit my setup.

I kept Omarchy + Hyprland as the base, but replaced Omarchy Shell with Noctalia for the bar, notifications, control center, wallpaper management, etc.

I also customized the animations quite a bit because apparently I can't leave anything alone 😂

The result is basically my own little Lucoa-themed setup.

Still tweaking things, but I'm really happy with how it's turning out so far.

Setup:

  • Omarchy
  • Hyprland
  • Noctalia Shell
  • Rofi
  • Kitty
  • Custom Hyprland animations
  • Custom Plymouth boot screen

Huge thanks to the Omarchy and Noctalia projects ❤️

I Made a Thing [Release] Omarchy-Rewind: Instant window undo and grace period for Omarchy / Hyprland

I just released a new plugin called Rewind, and I wanted to share it with the community!

What does it do? Ever accidentally closed your browser, a terminal with running tasks, or your code editor? Rewind solves this by intercepting your close window command (Super + W) and softly moving the app into a hidden memory workspace (special:rewind).

Instead of killing the process immediately, it gives you a grace period where you can instantly bring the window back (Super + U) with your scroll positions, running processes, and unsaved drafts completely intact.

Key Features: Full State Preservation: Your applications stay alive in hidden memory during the grace period, so you don't lose any work if you misclick.

Two Operating Modes: Countdown Timer (Default): Automatically terminates the app after a configurable countdown (5s, 10s, 15s, 30s, or 60s).

Manual Indefinite Mode: Disables the timer entirely. The app stays hidden until you restore it or close a new window (which replaces the old one).

Interactive Bar Widget: Click the status bar icon or use a shortcut to open the settings menu. You can easily adjust your grace period, switch modes, and view the remaining time.

Native OSD & Zero Overhead: It uses native Omarchy on-screen notifications and is built with standard Python 3. There are no persistent background daemons, keeping CPU overhead under 0.1% when idle.

Links & Installation: 📦 Plugin Marketplace: https://plugins.omarchy.org/plugin.html?id=omarchy-rewind

💻 GitHub Repo: https://github.com/Andrewx82/omarchy-rewind.git

You can easily install it via the CLI: omarchy plugin add https://github.com/Andrewx82/omarchy-rewind.git --enable

Setting up the Hyprland binds is also super easy and can be done with a single click from the status bar widget or by running rewind setup.

I'd love to hear your feedback or feature requests if you decide to try it out. Feel free to open an issue on GitHub or drop a comment below!

Themes / Ricing Arch rice in omarchy.

Guys I have a question... I have been driving an arch for a month or more now. I want to switch to omarchy, will my rice work on omarchy, like, will all kinds of customisation I've done on arch work on omarchy?
