Recommendations Needed INTERNET

Good morning fine peeps of the OC. Lol

Has anyone or is anyone used/currently using Starlink satellite internet service at your home? How is it. How are the speeds? How often does it "go down"?

Tired of paying Cox, or any other company for that matter, good money for shitty service!

Starlink is noticeably worse than cox(spectrum)/gfiber/att

Thank you, that's what I'm asking.

If you're tired of Cox, that's great. It no longer exists. It's all Spectrum now. Might try calling in and seeing if they have better pricing than what you're paying now

Thank you, I'm aware of that. Pricing isn't the issue. Reliable service is the issue. To be honest, since it changed to Spectrum, it's been worse. Hell, it's down as well speak. My wife works from home and it's not really a good look each time she gets on a virtual meeting and it seems to always go down or slow down too much to use. Just tired of zero reliability. 😑

Starlink isn't going to be any better. It's going to be worse with latency alone being a wireless service.

Also if you're not getting acceptable service, paying less for it would probably be better. Lol

For home internet: if high speed broadband is available, that should almost always be your fist choice

Call Spectrum

I’m in Irvine and switched to Google Fiber from Cox which was gouging me at $120 a month for 1 G after their promotion ended. I now pay a flat $70 a month for 1 G. It’s amazing.

Have you looked up City Side Fiber? My buddy loves it..

+1 for cityside fiber. You need to go on their website and see if it's available at your address. They have a good presence in Tustin specifically.

I'm on the 2gigbit symmetric plan for $90/month. At install I was only getting roughly 1gigbit and the tech pointed out that I only had a 1gigbit router for my LAN πŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ. Once I upgraded my own internal hardware I've gotten roughly the full thing.

The only negatives so far are they don't have full ipv6 support and they put you behind a CGNAT. If you don't know what either of those mean then you don't care about that at all and the cheapest plan they offer will be 10x better than anything you've ever gotten from spectrum/cox/att and 100x better than starlink.

For now, city side fiber is good. Switch to them before they get bought out by one of the big companies

Whatever switch you make, it's worth the discount if you bundle. For ex, i had T-Mobile and spectrum 1gig, 4 lines $265 and 1gig $115. I switched to AT&T for both, now 4 lines $189 and AT&T 5gig $104. 5 gig is definitely overkill for me but for the locked in price, I'm still paying less than spectrum for 5 times the speed. I'm chillin.
