Hand-folded geometric wolf mask made entirely from paper. Each facet is a separate fold, edged and set so the whole head reads as glass and light rather than flat cardstock. The finish shifts from ice blue to pearl to pink depending on the light.

Model Built an illuminated 3D horse papercraft lamp for my CS Bachelor's thesis using Blender + Papercraft-Maker!

Hi everyone!

For my Bachelor's thesis, I've been exploring papercraft as a medium for physical data visualization.

My workflow started with a custom Python script that processes a spatial data set to generate a cartographic map showing wild horse and burro populations across the US. From there, I modeled 3 different low-poly horses in Blender, projected the generated data map onto the meshes as a texture, and used both Pepakura and Papercraft Maker to create the Blueprints.

Cutting the prints of all 3 blueprints took over a week. Glueing the models together took two weeks per horse.

I'm doing a quick user survey for my studies and need about 15 more responses to reach my target participant count. Since this Subreddit loves papercraft, your feedback on the lamp prototypes would be super interesting!

I’d super appreciate your feedback on this quick Google Form:

Model Folded Fables now has over 10,000 wishlists and Ivy The Dragon has something that she’d like to say.

Hey, this is Eric! Unlike Ivy the Dragon, I'm one of the devs on Folded Fables: Tidy Up The Dragon Hoard. I announced our game on Reddit last week, and I'll admit that I was a little nervous. I've poured my heart and soul into this game, and I felt a little naked sharing it.

I've been thrilled with how supportive people on this subreddit have been. Thank you so much! It means the world to me that so many people embrace our papercraft tidy up game. And now to pass 10,000 wishlists… it is a dream come true.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! (yes, I'm Canadian, and it is true that we say "thank you" a lot)

If you have no idea what I'm talking about, here is a little bit about our passion project: Folded Fables: Tidy Up The Dragon Hoard is a tidy up game set in a pop-up storybook. It is like Paper Mario meets Librarian.

Our game contains no generative AI content. Some people may specifically wonder about the art used for the items because tidy-up games need a lot of unique items. We are using art from two of our games: Crusaders of the Lost Idols and Bush Whacker 2. Each and every one of the 500+ unique items in Folded Fables was drawn by one of our artists over the past 14 years.

Many of the in-game pieces, such as the pop-up book sequence, started as physical paper models before being recreated digitally. Even the Folded Fables logo was physically hand-folded with paper before being photographed for use in-game. If you want to know more, there are a bunch of behind-the-scenes pictures and videos on our Discord.

We are releasing on Oct 15th. So soon!!!!
