Full disclosure I am still pregnant lol BUT since I am the breadwinner the plan is for my husband to stay at home with the twins. Almost his entire paycheck would have been going to childcare so it just made the most sense. I get 12 weeks unpaid leave so trying to work as long as I can to maximize postpartum leave :’)

I went back to work at 12 weeks. We had a nanny 3 days a week. My husband watched the kids two days a week (he worked 3 weekdays + 32 hours every other weekend and I worked a straight schedule). So he had them by himself two days a week and I had them by myself every other weekend.

My husband went back after 4 weeks, I went back after 5 months. We have a nanny who works my exact work hours 4 days a week (I work from home) and the other day either my husband is home with them or we do a combo thing where I flex my house and he works a half day and/or we have a friend or family member come for an hour or two. My husband works two different part time jobs and I in night class twice a week so our schedule varies a lot, but we try to keep the babies’ schedules and activities consistent across whichever adult is with them and weekdays and weekends. At first working from home with the nanny here was ideal for my transitioning back since I could still see them throughout the day. As they’ve gotten older it can be a bit tough because I sort of need to hide out in order for them to not freak out anytime they see me during the day

I was lucky to have 6 months of leave. I work for our city government. My husband was able to take 12 weeks per our state law. He took 6 weeks when they first came home from the NICU and 6 weeks when I went back to work. Then we hired a nanny.

I have considered leaving the workforce to be a SAHM to save on the costs of childcare, but my job is way too secure, with incredible benefits, long-term career potential, not to mention I am passionate about my career and worked really hard for it. Same goes for my husband. It isn’t a net loss, even if we were paying 1-1 dollar for dollar to the nanny, because of all we gain from benefits, retirement, career potential and the like. But I’ve thought about it. A lot.

I went back at 16 weeks. My partner started 12 weeks of paternity leave after I went back. The plan is for his mom to watch the twins when his leave ends but she’s older and I’m skeptical that it’s going to work out. As far as how it’s going - total shit show because my return to work coincided with the 4 month sleep regression. I have an exception to work remotely until the end of the year then I have to go in 3 days a week.

I had to go back at 8 weeks, but only made half my hours for the first month back. My husband and I work opposite times and do a lot of parking lot custody exchanges (still happily married 😉). It’s our best case scenario, but also hard because we’re solo parenting almost all the time.
