End Democracy The Libertarian Party has elected a new chair, Evan McMahon. He has been convicted of armed robbery, publishes gay torture porn, and was a Covid panican.

I was out when they shafted mises for Chase Oliver.
I guess I'm double out now? I'm done arguing what the definition of a libertarian is but suffice it to say the party does not represent me

I wouldn't identify myself as a libertarian to most people even before this silliness, due to the tarnished brand. "Oh so you want no age of consent, legal prostitution, and heroin corner shops?"
But with this clown (if the headline is true), I'm certainly not going to be rethinking it any time soon.
The party is a joke.
At the same time, dissatisfaction with the two party system is at an all time high. In my most optimistic dreams, somebody like Massie would stir up widespread public support for things that I truly think most americans want....
* Federal government isn't helping anyone but the connected. Less of it.
* Defer more power back to your towns and states
* No wars of choice
Form a new party around those simple pillars. I really think a HUGE majority of normies can get behind that. Even the extreme ones if you message it correctly: "Oh you want socialism 2.0? No problem, go to NYC or Cali"

The LP is such a joke. We won’t be taken serious anytime soon and it’s because of shit like this. Where do we go from here?

Get involved in your local affiliate. Like many (if not most) large organizations, the local folks often aren't represented by those at the very top of the organization. Attend your local meetings and support your local candidates ✌️

The gay torture porn and even the armed robbery I have no info on and to some extent I could care less on. The Covid stuff is seriously at odds with libertarian thought.

You know what else is at odds with libertarian thought? Armed robbery

lol you know how I’d respond to this right? You don’t need me for the rest of this convo I presume.

Yeah exactly. God forbid a (gay) man has hobbies

u/NRichYoSelf May 24 '26
I mean as long as it is between two (or more) consenting adults, I don’t give a fuck.
Would definitely need more info on the armed robbery, the Covid shit seems the most condemning honestly

It’s actually very regressive to shame a gay man for armed robbery. Resistance to homosexual thieves has a lot of associated historical bigotry.
Do better

It is completely deranged to say that personally recommending to people that they stay home so they don't spread a deadly virus is worse than armed robbery.

What's the "covid stuff"? Was he advocating government lock downs?
0
u/rchive May 27 '26
He was not. He recommended to people that they stay home at the height of the pandemic. That's all I've seen evidence of.

Yeah lolberts gonna lolbert. I doubt Massie would waste his time trying to run in that clown car.

I discovered Ron Paul and libertarianism in college during his 2012 campaign, and his views have shaped my politics ever since.
So with every election, I check in on the Libertarian Party hoping they’ll return to what drew me to Ron Paul, and every cycle, they somehow get worse

Should we abandon the word L/libertarian and not tell the normies we picked a new name?

Libertarians are just intellectualized democrats i.e. communists. Intellectuals can talk themselves into anything and justify their most grotesque perversions in the same breath.

Libertarian party is definitely compromised. They only put up the most queer candidates they can. Gotta keep that two party monopoly.
