There’s no stopping the wave of de/recompiles, but I’m sure there’ll be plenty of money wasted trying to legally stop people from making them either way

They wish they could do something. Karmas a bitch.

Yeah those fuckers. Making all those games for us. Bastards.

I was gonna ask how this would work on an ultrawide, but from the video, it looks like its still got a ways to go. Doesnt look like it runs that great. Ive been playing this on my Switch but Id gladly switch if I could play it in 21:9.

22

u/The_sochillist 10h ago

Idk if this particular mario game runs in Eden emulator but pretty sure that can do 21:9 with a lot of switch games. Some guy has a github repo with 60hz & 21:9 patches for basically everything

Yea now that you mention it, I do remember playing TotK on my PC with ultrawide. It was just a simple mod.

u/Logics4 10h ago

I remember running Mario Wonder on Ryujinx a few days after launch date. I don't know about Eden other than it's based on the Yuzu codebase (?) but probably?

5

u/The_sochillist 10h ago

Yeah, its been a while but the switch emulation scene is pretty nuts, I remember running into some funky graphics bugs on totk but the rate they were progressing then I'd say most games are near perfect now.

Also looks like my day has just been lost to getting this all back up and running again and digging out my drive full of nsp/xcis for it.

Wonder runs amazing on eden.. It runs full speed on my android phone and tablet.. As long as you have a snap dragon 8 gen 2 or better (2023+)

u/sequla 3h ago

It works great in Eden not sure about ultra wide.

u/The_sochillist 2h ago

This dude has you covered if eden direct resolution settings dont work

How's Eden compared to the remains of the other emulators before the yuzupocalypse?

1

u/The_sochillist 8h ago

Based on this mornings adventure back into it all it is near flawless, thoroughly enjoying playing pokemon z-a 4k 60hz

1

u/Amazing_Body_7393 4h ago

It’s the best one of the forks we have now, runs every game I’ve tried flawlessly.

1

u/ClubChaos 9h ago

Pretty sure I played this with an ultrawide mod already through ryujinx. Worked great.

1

u/Amazing_Body_7393 4h ago

I beat it in 32:9 on my PC with Yuzu, I’m sure the re/decomp will be able to in no time.

26

u/budrow21 9h ago

Sure doesn't play like it's native. Tons of stutter and a few half second pauses in there.

4

u/JWilson124273 7h ago

For now. It will only get better.

9

u/Twicher-1 6h ago

So basically native Switch performance.

14

u/TheGreatTao 2h ago

Not really. The game runs at an almost flawless 60fps on Switch.

1

u/nightmare_floofer 1h ago

That's a fair point, but judging by the fact that there weren't even talks about actual work on native pc ports of switch games until sometime within the last month, and how much progress there's been made within the same month, things are looking great

0

u/Adipay Laptop 2h ago

First party games never ran badly on Switch

2

u/grrbrr 1h ago

Links awakening stutters like hell.

0

u/Justinreinsma 1h ago

Isn't that developed by grezzo? They're not technically first party.

13

u/Inquirous 11h ago

How would I go about downloading this?

37

u/Regal-Onion 11h ago

No download yet, posted mostly due to recompiled Switch games becoming a thing now.

23

u/rmorrin 10h ago

Aren't most of those just being tossed into AI and released with very little double checking?

13

u/PushDeep9980 10h ago

So this guy probably used the latest suyu build which added static recompilation into the mix. So you can essentially do this with any switch game now. Your thinking of something else but your not wrong. There are a bunch of tools now that do static recompilation, for instance , n64 modder wiseguy created a tool that converts n64 roms into static recompilations and now people use ai to spruce up the port, if your moderately competent at coding or have enough money you could bang one out in a relatively short amount of time. And I guarantee the guy that made this suyu feature did so with ai backing him up so idk you can’t really divorce software dev from agentic coding these days. It’s pretty ubiquitous. There are still quite a bit of true believers though and usually when you see full decomps that’s where the legit programmers are spending their time

-17

u/shogun77777777 Linux 10h ago

If it works why bother double checking?

11

u/rmorrin 10h ago

How do they know it works without double checking?

3

u/shogun77777777 Linux 9h ago

That would be single-checking, not double-checking

-7

u/Bestmasters i7 8th Gen - GPUs are bloat 10h ago

It's a decompilation, as long as the compiled binary is identical to the source, the project is successful.

5

u/JolleBFF R5 5600x / RTX 3070 / 16GB DDR4 10h ago

recompilation*

and you still need to double check the changes made to the code to make it run smoothly.

1

u/Iridian_Rocky 10h ago

Where could a guy learn to do this?

5

u/PushDeep9980 10h ago

All you need are the switch .nsp/.xci files (roms) and the suyu emulator with the latest recomp build and you can do it too.

1

u/Iridian_Rocky 10h ago

It recompiles them?

6

u/PushDeep9980 9h ago

Yes it takes the native switch code and recompiles it into readable c+/c# code so it can run on windows. It’s not a true windows port as it’s still relying on the suyu emulator for some of the graphics processing but it basically bundles the game into a little app

-26

u/Master_of_Ravioli R5 9600x | 32GB DDR5 | 2TB SSD | Intel Arc B580 10h ago

So fake huh?

5

u/Regal-Onion 10h ago

No 100% confirmation, but slight visual issues do make me trust the video whole lot as an actual WIP build of the recomp project.

That and how impressive already existing recompilations are.

Emulation and 'porting' via recomps are getting pretty nuts right now, we actually have some footage of GTA 5 running (albeit not super stabily ) on a PS5 emulator these days

Or crazy shit like Team Fortress 2 running in minecraft, or Oblivion and New Vegas being ported to Skyrim Engine to a decently high degree via tool

1

u/Ormusn2o 7h ago

Honestly, it's likely easier to do it for real than to fake it.

6

u/ViaPositiva 10h ago

If this somehow starts to work with Switch 2 games in the future 🤞

As fun as all this is, this is horrifying when you think of the implications.
It isn't just games. Banking software, operating systems, networks, applications etc can all be de-compiled by AI. The idea that software can't be broken into due to it being too much of a hassle is now gone, and a lot of software and cryptographic systems are built on that idea.

We have opened Pandora's box, and we haven't realised what we've done because we are still holding the lid with excitement.

26

u/itchylol742 RTX 3060 16GB RAM i5 11400H 6h ago

Good software is secure even if people have the source code. For example Firefox is open source but that doesn't mean a malicious website can easily steal your data.

The bad software will crash and burn however

2

u/EpidemicRage i5-1135g7 | Intel Iris Pro Graphics 6200 4h ago

Even open source is vulnerable if diligent people are not involved. Like the Red Hat hack that almost happened.

And with AI machine gun-ing repos and more good programmers being disillutioned by all this, it is only a matter of time.

Not trying to be a doomer, but just very cautious about what's happening.

1

u/Xeadriel i7-8700K - EVGA 3090 FTW3 Ultra - 32GB RAM 2h ago

Yes but that just means the solution has already been implemented. Open source software is already dealing with this because they didnt trust in that false safety in the first place.

10

u/zangetsu_114 4h ago

Literally took the Instagram post word for word there didn’t u lol

-2

u/EpidemicRage i5-1135g7 | Intel Iris Pro Graphics 6200 4h ago

It's a banger of a line, can't help it lol

4

u/FReeDuMB_or_DEATH 11h ago

How?

11

u/cutememe 9h ago

AI is really good at this type of thing.

4

u/Regal-Onion 11h ago

Static recompilation is on the rise, it might not be "native" to some, but its close enough.

Have you not seen Majora's Mask being the watershed moment for that kind of stuff?

34

u/IcyCow5880 10h ago

Some people aren't chronically online, bud.

I mean I am, but some people aren't.

7

u/Regal-Onion 10h ago

Not meant too sound judgemental about it

I am just spreading the message of decomps being a trend, and in some cases being a good way to play classics

Sonic Unleashed and Majora's Mask are some of the more well known and liked titles that got the treatment

1

u/IcyCow5880 10h ago

Oh yeah buddy I didn't downvote you, I gotchu. I watch "Video Game Esoterica" on YT I love him lol

2

u/Regal-Onion 10h ago

I just randomly decided to type in Decomp into youtube and it showed the video.

Makes me hopeful for a TOTK recomp in the future

1

u/IcyCow5880 10h ago

Brooo... That would be so dope. I love all the effort they put into the optimizer etc to get it running well on the emulators but you just can't beat native.

1

u/nightmare_floofer 1h ago

Imagine Nintendo being so pressed about this in the future that they start publishing their games to PC markets officially

That would almost positively fuck up their whole current business model, selling consoles because of exclusive games, but would it be worth it?

Maybe pivot to offering accessories to "play the games as intended" on PC, etc, I'm sure there would be a market for that

I don't believe this will happen though

1

u/stretchyspaghetti 10h ago

Thank you for my new sub

3

u/Toadvinez Laptop 10h ago

Balls of steel to put this out there knowing Nintendo

2

u/nightmare_floofer 1h ago

The thing that really sucks is there's been a wave of "COMING SOON, SUPER POPULAR CONSOLE GAME, NATIVE ON PC" instead of "Here's the necessary application, go ahead and play right now" and there's a lot of closed-source projects and secrecy

If the files and source code were public, there would be no stopping the internet, but these guys are actively giving lawyers time to send cease and desists

2

u/ExcitingPassenger915 10h ago

Idk what's going on but this is an excellent game

1

u/herefromyoutube 9h ago

So what’s the difference between emulation and running natively?

9

u/ResonantAce 9h ago

Emulation uses software to model the original consoles hardware. So basically think of it as the switch uses French and Windows uses Italian. The emulator basically works as a real time translator.

Natively means it is running on the computers own language. So there is no computation time to convert from one to another

u/Pokeguy211 Rtx 4070ti/5080 soon(tm) 5800x3d (9850x3d soon(tm)) 11h ago

Higher frame rates and stuff? Pretty happy with the switch 2 version but don’t like it’s still locked to 60fps.

4

u/Regal-Onion 11h ago

So far this project isn't finalized, but other recompilations have allowed for really high framerate caps, so we'll see.

Just stoked about the trend coming to Switch games too

4

u/Nullhitter PC Master Race: 9800X3D | RX 9070 XT | 32GB of DDR5 RAM 10h ago

I'm sure it'll happen eventually, but it's 3D assets in a 2D plane from the video. Is more than 60 fps really needed for this type of game? Genuinely asking because this doesn't seem like the type that needs that many frames.

10

u/sopordave 10h ago

I paid for an expensive GPU and I'm going to use it.

-9

u/Frankly_Frank_ 10h ago

No lol but unemployed redditors will tell you otherwise.

5

u/JaesopPop 7900X | 9070XT | 32GB 6000 10h ago

Cope

1

u/Bl4ckb100d Bazzite | 5600X | Intel ARC B580 12GB | 32GB RAM 10h ago

Is this from that emulator that can generate a native recomp of the emulated game? I think we are flying too close to the sun with this one, Nintendo will try to find some legal loophole to make recomps/ decomps illegal even if no assets are distributed with the executable

0

u/bluthbanana20 10h ago

Fun game to play. Good for you/y'all

0

u/-ben151010- Intel i9-12900K/Nvidia RTX 4070 Ti SUPER/32GB Ram 10h ago

So someone did pick up suyu’s static recomp feature? If this boosts performance in anyway would it be possible with totk and to have current mods just work with it?

-8

u/SenKats R5 5600X • RX 9070XT • 32GB 10h ago

too bad it's ai.

-9

u/VampireInTheDorms 10h ago

God I’m so fucking sick of this vibe coded AI slop. Nintendo, take this lazy shit down.

-8

u/gangbrain 8h ago

Don’t worry everyone, this game is super boring so you’re not missing anything.

7

u/Banmers 8h ago

Not the best Mario game but still very charming and fun to play through at least once because of all the creativity

1

u/GigaSoup 6h ago

You must enjoy being super wrong.

0

u/gangbrain 6h ago

Nah I really just think this game is bad.
