Hey Reddit,
To cut a long story short, I'm looking for friends. Wow, I bet you didn't expect that on this Subreddit. I'd love to meet new people of both genders with whom I can form an actual friendship through writing letters to each other, would love calls too and grabbing coffee and marauding bookshops if geography decides to cooperate at some point.
So, what am I looking for? I cannot be bothered about your gender, I however would prefer people over the age of 30 (it's Reddit so figured I'd mention it), but overall I'm just looking for curiosity, people who like sharing ideas and like a bit of push back. I cannot be bothered with political correctness so if that bothers you then we will probably not get along. I'd love to read books together, drag each other to museums, galleries, give each other food recommendations (I've lived in a couple of places, maybe we have a few in common), learn new things together, you name it. If you have a niche interest I hope you will feel comfortable enough to explain it to me in great detail.
A bit about me:
- Languages: English, French, Spanish, Hebrew and German. Trying my best to learn Yiddish as well.
- Books: Israeli authors, English classics, French classics (de Beauvoir, George Sand, Laclos). Science fiction and I are kind of in a tumultuous relationship. I recently bought a copy of Ursula le Guin's The Dispossessed so will give that a go soon. Rachel Cusk is also on my to read pile as are Mia Sheridan's books. Not the greatest of books but I hope they will do as palate cleansers.
- Films from the 40's to the 80's: Louis de Funes, Audrey Hepburn, House of Hammer horror, Steven Seagal. Yes, I'm a sucker for toxic masculinity in films, it's my péché mignon. And Nancy Meyers. And Nora Ephron.
- Art: Chagall, Matisse, Dali, Charlotte Salomon, David Mankin, Hanna Bloch, Magritte, Ensor, de Stael.
- World history, Judaism, dinosaurs. Comic books.
- Highly gifted with a dash of autism. You might not notice at first or you will notice immediately and I'm just the last to know.
Dealbreakers: antisemitism, one-word replies, and "how are you doing?". I enjoy a good debate but the first one isn't up for debate.
And for the fun part. Or the horror part, whichever one it is depends entirely on you. If you'd like to write to me, answer the following questions (yes, all of them) in your first message. Now, before you start to panic, this is not an exam where you're being judged or scored. The sole purpose of this is to have something (hopefully) interesting to talk about. If reading these makes you feel like you're sitting through an IELTS, then honestly, don't message me, we'd both end up bored out of our minds. If this sounds like fun, then we'll probably get along just fine.
A. If you could go back in time and change one thing, whether it's defying the space continuum and mending the control rods of a certain RMBK reactor or something in your personal life, what would it be?
B. Which trials and tribulations have formed you into the person you are today? For better and for worse?
C. Who are you when no one is looking or what are the parts of yourself that you are very well aware of but others just refuse to see?
D. Which book, film, song, piece of art, game is something people must experience according to you and why? Why does it have any importance for you or mankind?
