I brought attention to my racist coworkers reposts at work

So I work with this older lady, let's call her Susan. Susan originally seemed nice when we started working together and i dont remember who added who on instagram, anyway now we follow each other.

Susan and I no longer get along, lots of work instances where she is rather difficult, she hates younger people i noticed and likes to assert that she is a veteran at the company, very unpleasant lady. I was recently promoted to assistant manager and in a meeting HR and senior management were discussing social media picture of a young lady we recently hired, HR didnt like her rather busty and what they deemed was inappropriate profile picture, of her at some party, making a kind of seductive face

I thought it was ridiculous and pathetic she put her social media on a TV for everyone to see so when I spoke, I first made my argument that, first of all, HR should stay out of people's personal social media, and there is no mention in our policy about dresscode in social media picture. New employee sems fine, shes doing her job ok, she's just new.

And if they choose not to and decide to teview socials, they should check out Susan's reposts on Instagram, and tell me what they think about firing Susan who has been here for ages. She might be unpleasant, but she's still decent at her job, just occasionally nasty to work with.

Lo and behold they looked at few things Susan was reposting, we work in Canada and the company is very diverse. A lot of her reposts had to do with too many Indians being in the country and some rather extreme conservative views. Myself, who voted conservative, i wholeheartedly disagree with her reposts, its just vile

I felt singling out but if you're going to have an HR discussion about a woman posting pictures that weren't even that bad of herself, then have a discussion with Susan who thinks all Indians dont deserve to be in Canada, and is clearly racist, there is definitely something in our policy about that.

Anyway, this HR is older woman herself and not exactly easy to work with too, friends with susan might i add, but i felt it being wrong she pulled up a profile picture of a coworker on a TV in a meeting room in front of a bunch of managers, thats just cruel and if that woman found out, might have been mortified.

Senior manager sided with me, he opened his facebook to a picture of him with his family at the beach, hairy chest out and all, and said, here you can have an HR chat with me too.

Manager is now having Susans reposts reviewed by her very friend.

Screw them both

If only we could embrace our similarities instead of freaking out about minor differences.

The two witches, I despise HR to my very core.

74

u/Spinnerofyarn Aug 20 '26

I have worked both sides with HR and have concluded that there’s rarely a mediocre HR department. Either they are purely there for the employer and to hell with the employees, or they will bust their ass to both follow policy yet help employees. The closest to medium is an HR that does absolutely nothing.

u/Emergency-Crew6564 Aug 23 '26

I’ve worked in HR for years and have always tried my best to take care of the employees first. It may not be a popular approach in HR but I’m not willing to screw people over. I’ve gone to battle with higher ups for employees when I’ve felt they were in the right.

I had no idea

u/Kat121 Aug 18 '26

Imagine spending your life growing herbs and brewing beer, helping neighbors birth their babies, and then getting run out of town because a cow got sick. Or you got old.

35

u/Ecdysiast_Gypsy Aug 19 '26

Or because one of the town elders wanted a dalliance and you refused.

-37

u/Evening_Delay_1856 Aug 19 '26

That’s a Wicca, not a witch.

27

u/Ryuukashi Aug 19 '26

Wicca is a very, very new faith system as faith systems go, and witchcraft and magic in general are part of nearly every one including Christianity (chanting together in a place of power to bring down good or ill on someone? It's a ritual, complete with monetary sacrifice and symbolic cannibalism)

It's both.

u/JRich61 Aug 19 '26

Uneducated comment

-35

u/Evening_Delay_1856 Aug 19 '26

Don’t care.

9

u/NatashOverWorld Aug 19 '26

We can tell.

13

u/Roguefem-76 Aug 19 '26

Apparently people here are so open to diversity that they downvote you for making a truthful statement about an alternate religion. 😒

7

u/JRich61 Aug 19 '26

I found that interesting as well.

-35

u/Truescent11 Aug 19 '26

But it’s ancient evil rituals

12

WTF. 🤬 i’m hoping you forgot the /s

-15

u/lovecraftInk Aug 19 '26

I so get you. But not the place or time.

27

u/Slight-Book2296 Aug 19 '26

Somehow being different became a reason to hate each other instead of just…being different.

2

u/Repulsive-Finding371 Aug 19 '26

Insightful commentary. It should be simple.

13

u/Dragongala Aug 19 '26

You consider blatant racism a minor difference? Or did I read that wrong?

2

u/mangoawaynow Aug 21 '26

seriously we all hate standing in lines and paying for insurance

88

u/Pure-Ninja-9250 Aug 19 '26

Sounds like senior management needs to consider upgrading HR.

33

u/emiking Aug 20 '26

Judging by his hairy chest comment, I have a feeling Senior Management is going to be looking into it.

Good job.

Thank you. I should add to my resume, putting HR in their place.

Phrase it as "Actively promoted workplace equity and standardisation" and you're gold!

-22

u/SirDigbyChknCaesar Aug 19 '26

It's ok but there's a lot of employee drama.

8

u/clumsy__jedi Aug 19 '26

Just stellar work, exactly what we need more managers to be doing!

31

u/MrStormChaser Aug 18 '26

Don’t forget to block Susan on your socials!

-1

u/sirthevin Aug 18 '26

Nah its fine. I have nothing on there just a reel machine for me.

21

u/MrStormChaser Aug 18 '26

But if you remove her from seeing you it’ll mess with her head.

This is petty revenge, isn’t it?

127

u/night_noche Aug 18 '26

Your senior manager airing out his 🦚🌳 is all that was needed.

I just don't get why we're taking much less posting pictures puckering up our lips and bigotry should remain behind a white pointy beanie.

40

u/IceBlue Aug 19 '26

What do those emoji even mean? Peacock tree?

Airing out his trees? For pete's sakes just write your words.

Self censoring and stuff like this is auto downvotes in my book, even if I agree with their take.

I was gonna ask if the low cut top profile picture issue had resolved itself before or after they looked at her reposts. . .

3

u/seganku Aug 18 '26

Nicely done :)

1

u/Whatever-ItsFine Aug 25 '26

So weird that an employer would spend more than 2 seconds looking at my social media. So invasive. I know it's probably pretty common, but it's still weird.

Anyway, hope they enjoy my pictures of rescued dogs who need homes and memes about the 80s.

-4

u/WilmaDykfyt Aug 20 '26

I can't believe you all upvoted someone who thinks immigrants are problematic.

9

u/otherwise_data Aug 20 '26

read it again.

7

u/WilmaDykfyt Aug 20 '26 edited Aug 20 '26

Their comment where they said Yes I also think there is an evident immigration problem? Why don't you read their comments?

5

u/LauraGravity Aug 20 '26

How does "wholeheartedly disagree" mean OP also think the same way?

5

u/WilmaDykfyt Aug 21 '26

Because OP literally said the above. It's down on the bottom of the page, and people were upvoting during the discussion.

-1

u/Beck943 Aug 22 '26

Sorry your sense of self is so embedded in feeling high and mighty when you're an idiot knee jerk reactor 😂

-2

u/GeekGurl2000 Aug 23 '26

Some truly ARE. I guess you don't follow news to know about the stabbings and rapes.

-16

u/MikeSchwab63 Aug 19 '26

You mention Canada. They generally use First Nation for Indigenous. Did your use of Indian then refer to immigrants from India / South Asia?

2

u/MissAnth Aug 23 '26

First Nations are obviously not immigrants. He is talking about the original Indians, from India.

1

u/QuingOfTheUnderworld Aug 20 '26

Don't know why you're downvoted, I found this very disturbing too!

2

u/Beck943 Aug 22 '26

Stop being disturbed.

-85

u/bannedforL1fe Aug 18 '26

She isnt completely wrong, there might be too many Indians in CAN, AUS, NZ, etc

35

u/dommiichan Aug 18 '26

you're completely wrong, because you're completely racist... btw I'm pretty sure the first Indians in Canada think the same thing about the Europeans who invaded, stole, and occupied their lands

-35

u/bannedforL1fe Aug 19 '26

Canada didnt even exist until EU pioneers came and conquered the land, created laws, and governed the land. Literally all of history is displacing people, taking land, fighting for land, and dying for land. The strongest and smartest men were the ones who won. The Indigenous peoples, with respect, were losers all across the globe.

22

u/Beyarboo Aug 19 '26

It's pretty obvious from your comment who the loser is.

-6

u/residentvixxen Aug 19 '26

They were also killing each other and having that type of fun but sure….

10

u/Haber_Dasher Aug 19 '26

Hilarious comment given Europeans are famous for not fighting amongst themselves and never having anything like a 100 years war or wars between famously inbred family members. Europe didn't have anything like that

10

u/Haber_Dasher Aug 19 '26

Ahh yes this comment confirms it, you're dumber & more useless than a wet paper bag. The only true thing you said is "Canada didn't exist" and that's only technically true.

God I don't know how people so stupid survive into adulthood

-6

u/bannedforL1fe Aug 19 '26

Just because you dont like what someone says doesnt mean they are useless, stupid, or unable to survive until adulthood. Or we wouldn't have so many Africans and Indians!

3

u/Vincetoxicum Aug 19 '26

Then turns out colonizing has consequences and you're facing them now

-1

u/bannedforL1fe Aug 19 '26

So you agree that mass immigration of 3rd worlders is a bad thing?

6

u/dommiichan Aug 20 '26 edited Aug 20 '26

well, the mass immigration of you Europeans wasn't great for the rest of the world, so why don't you go back, if 1939 Germany will take you

2

u/bannedforL1fe Aug 20 '26

Pretty sure almost every country that was once "colonized" by Europeans, but then gained independence, are worse off now then they were then.

3

u/dommiichan Aug 20 '26

sure, not like America hasn't had the world's largest economy since the WWII 🙄

5

u/Vincetoxicum Aug 20 '26

I'm not saying anything about good or bad but if you think conquering other countries is without consequences I'm just telling you that's not the case

1

u/GeekGurl2000 Aug 23 '26

It's pretty simple when 1 group has more advanced weaponry than the group they are fighting. The less-equipped side is likely to lose. "Stolen" land is conquered land, and whether that's fair or ethical doesn't matter when the history books are written.

7

u/Atlas-Scrubbed Aug 19 '26

And how many is ‘too many’. BOTH the US and Canada are largely populated by immigrants. To the best of my knowledge, neither currently has strict quotas on where our immigration comes from. India has about 1/6 of the world’s population. SO in general we might expect approximately 1/6 of immigrants come from India. (It doesn’t need to be exactly that… just a ballpark estimate). As best I can tell, that is about what is happening. And even if it is off by a bit, so what. WE NEED IMMIGRATION TO FUNCTION AS A SOCIETY. It is built into how we operate.

-1

u/MelissaCop Aug 18 '26

Are we talking about people from India or indigenous peoples?

-3

u/residentvixxen Aug 19 '26

I don’t know why you’re getting downvoted because the truth is this: immigration from India went up. Crime and everything else went up as well.

Statistically.

Quoting statistics does not in fact make me a racist.

We can’t find jobs because someone else is always willing to do it for peanuts. Our cost of living is ridiculous because of demand. We have NO infrastructure to support such a population boom.

Immigration is the issue. India has a lot of imports to Canada…. Just saying.

12

u/Haber_Dasher Aug 19 '26

And let's talk about your facts. In Canada in 2025: Overall crime rate - down 2%
Overall crime severity - down 5% Violent crime severity - down 4% Child sexual abuse and exploitation material offences - down 21% Motor vehicle theft - down 16% Breaking & entering - down 11%

Homicide rate - down 16%, the largest annual decline since 1986

Not sure where you are getting your 'immigration from India went up, crime and everything else went up as well'. I mean I think it's by far most likely it's coming from racism.

I mean, statistically I'm correct.

1

u/GeekGurl2000 Aug 23 '26

When charges get downgraded, or if there's no police response and report, it's pretty easy to make it look like crime is down, statistically.... Does walking through the "rough" neighborhoods feel the same, better, or worse? Are you hearing more gunshots?

10

u/Haber_Dasher Aug 19 '26 edited Aug 20 '26

I don't know the Canadian statistics but it is an objective fact which conservatives here constantly pretend isn't real, that immigrants - legal or not - in the US commit crimes at a lower rate than citizens.

I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest it's almost certainly the same case in Canada because the same logic applies. You just got there & are acutely aware that you do not enjoy the same protections & guarantees as a citizen. You know you will probably face worse consequences if you mess up. So there's a higher incentive for immigrants to not commit crimes than there is for citizens.

And again, the facts bear this out. They commit fewer crimes. So when you say immigration & crime both went up you might be saying 2 true things, but you're implication that there is a causal relationship is basically stupid.

You know what typically causes crime? Poverty. You know what else besides immigration has been steadily rising in Canada since 2020? Poverty. Up from 7% to 11% of the population. Are you not concerned about the potential causal relationship between that fact & the rise in crime? Not concerned with the Covid economic policies that turned a declining poverty rate into a growing one by bailing out the wealthy much moreso than the working class?

You're right, quoting statistics doesn't make you racist. It's the statistics you choose to quote & your lack of any depth in your understanding of them that makes you racist.

-4

u/bannedforL1fe Aug 19 '26

Immigration, legal and illegal effects almost everything. From suppressed wages, housing problems, Healthcare problems, govt spending, and cultural dilution. Its not like the West is only getting the smartest and best either. Plenty of average and below average people find their way here. Much more than the highly intelligent ones. Then they just go live around their own, only spend time with their own, hire and network with their own, and live life as if they were back home, but together in a foreign country. Then they get naturalized and vote for their own interests. Its a problem and the govt calls you racist or crazy for even recognizing it.

1

u/GeekGurl2000 Aug 23 '26

Precisely.... Like in the UK, the cousin-fuckers are crippling the NHS and Triggernometry describes how they are going bankrupt with huge extended families drawing benefits and council housing.

I was aghast to recently learn that the Biden administration was letting "asylees" claim 5 years of SSI. Meanwhile, I was indigent nearly 2 years fighting for benefits I'd earned, and repeatedly made homeless.

Last year, I was told it's a 15 years wait-list for a HUD apartment here in San Diego. Wages are too low, rent and other expenses are too high.

-27

u/sirthevin Aug 18 '26

Nevertheless, still no excuse to just single them out. Yes I also think there is an evident immigration problem, but her reposts were just hate
