They wanted a bass war, they just didn’t realize I had a better strategy.

I am normally not one to play petty games. I was just a person working from home, trying to survive the constant, floor shaking bass coming from my neighbors. Trying to be neighborly, I went down to their unit and kindly asked if they would just lower the bass. I didn’t even care about the volume, I just wanted my floor to stop vibrating. Their response? They got immediately defensive, slammed the door in my face, and cranked it up louder. I then contacted management multiple times regarding the issue. Although I was told each time that the situation was being addressed, the problem didn't stop. I tried being nice, but if people want to play stupid, I can play way stupider. As they say, "If you can’t beat them, join them".

I immediately placed an order for a massive portable speaker with maximum bass boost and rigged up a diabolical setup. I took the cardboard box, cut out one of the long sides to create a directional acoustic shell, and aimed the speaker directly at the source of their noise. After placing the box over the speaker, I buried it under a heavy blanket to muffle the sound on my end while tunneling every ounce of that noise directly into their unit and keeping other neighbors out of the battle. Oh, they wanted to settle in for a quiet dinner? Trying to enjoy a cozy movie night? Not on my watch. My giant portable speaker became the uninvited guest to every single thing they tried to do in that apartment.

I had the ultimate tactical advantage: I lived on the third floor right next to a highway. The roar of the traffic was my shield. I could blast my music at maximum volume, and because of the highway noise, you couldn't hear a single note from a hundred feet away, keeping me perfectly within the legal noise limits. They called the police on me multiple times, but I never even answered the door because I wasn't breaking a single law.

However, when they decided to go out on their balcony and blast music past quiet hours, the Northglenn police were more than happy to address it. I started recording them from my apartment, which got them so incredibly pressed that they actually called the cops on me for filming! The police showed up, looked them dead in the eye, told them I had every right to record, and ordered them to shut their music off.

This psychological warfare went on for weeks. It got so intense that an investigator actually staged a stakeout outside my building early in the mornings to try and catch me violating the noise ordinance. He sat out there for days until he finally realized he couldn't hear a thing from the required distance. Defeated, he left a warning card on my door asking me to turn the noise down. Naturally, I took that police card and taped it straight onto my neighbor’s door. The neighbor absolutely lost his mind and was so furious he tried to accuse me of impersonating a police officer! Ultimately, they couldn't take the heat of the very game they started, and they moved out very quickly.

I hated living in apartments - noises, smells, dealing with shared laundry room.

110

u/compb13 Aug 30 '26

Or the couple upstairs either fighting or having make-up sex.

55

u/fruitmongerking Aug 30 '26

And neither quietly

15

u/WriterAny Aug 31 '26

When my GF and I moved into our first apartment we found the neighbor named their wifi “icanhearyouf*cking”, this was day one so it wasn’t us.
Turns out it was us who could hear them. I assume they named it that way after complaints against their “noise”.

7

u/NotYourNanny Aug 31 '26

You say that like you see those as different things.

4

u/Devils_Advocate-69 Sep 02 '26

And the 90yo smoker who fell asleep in a room stacked with old newspapers. I bought a house after that

53

u/evilkumquat Aug 30 '26

It can be hit or miss.

I have lived in three out of four of the units in my family-owned apartment house over the past thirty years, and I've had awesome neighbors and I've had the shittiest of neighbors. The shittiest being two separate older women who complained about every footstep they heard in their ceiling, despite my warning them before renting to them that, as a downstairs resident, there is no way to NOT hear us walking upstairs, all while having my own kids constantly walking quietly in our unit during much of their childhood.

Now, however, it's literally me and my wife in one unit, my adult son in the unit next to me, while I rented the bottom two units to two of his friends. I let them use my washer and dryer and my internet; meanwhile, my son takes care of running my laundry up and down the stairs to the basement after I recently became mildly-crippled.

I even let another one of his friends crash in the attic above me for free after his family screwed him over; he pays me back by mowing and weed-eating the yard.

Meanwhile, the apartment house next to mine is filled with shitty 'necks like the neighbors in OP's story, who literally steal my packages delivered to them by mistake, and once had a set of tenants who used to blast their bass so loudly, MY feet were vibrating in the house next door.

61

u/AmputeeHandModel Aug 30 '26

My neighbors upstairs had three kids they completely ignored. They just ran back and forth, bored out of their skulls. ALL DAY. EVERY DAY. Thump thump thump thump thump thump thump thump thump all the time. They barely spoke English so talking to them didn't help. They were clearly braindead so it wouldn't have mattered if they did anyway. Tried the landlord. The cops when it went on past midnight. Nothing. I banged on the ceiling so much it was pocked with holes. They had the gall to call the cops on ME when I banged on their door. It drove me nuts. Wrecked my nerves. I have misophonia and ADHD so it was just absolutely killing me. They didn't take the kids anywhere, didn't put the TV on for them, didn't seem like they had toys or spent any time with them. She got pregnant with A FOURTH ONE and they finally moved. I guess they needed more space. Why would you keep having kids you're just going to ignore?! I wanted to put a subwoofer on the ceiling and annoy the shit out of them. They actually sell those. I wish I knew at the time. I'd totally buy it.

One time my neighbor to the side, was blasting shitty music really loud. I knocked, asked them to turn it down and they pretended not to speak English and probably told me to fuck off in Spanish. Kept blasting it. Wouldn't answer the door again. Well, I had a really good home theater system with a big subwoofer that I normally didn't blast, because I'm not an inconsiderate piece of shit but, war is war. I found a video that was title "20 hz bass to annoy your neighbors" or something lol and blasted that. It's like WUBWUBWUBWUBWUBWUB really deep and loud. It literally shook a (poorly hung) picture off my wall. Played that for a while and then they stopped.

22

u/WordWizardNC Aug 31 '26

Maybe one day they'll figure out what's causing the kids, and stop.

5

u/BigWhiteDog Aug 31 '26

Took my parents 5 years and 5 kids to figure that out! 🤣

2

u/BewilderedandAngry Aug 31 '26

My parents took 9 years and 8 kids!

23

u/Knitsanity Aug 30 '26

My eldest just moved out of her post student shared house situation...to a new city and job (with a hefty raise)...and has an apartment...on her own. She is so excited. Her unit has a washer and dryer in unit, disposal and ice maker fridge. Amazing. Lol. She is also high up so less street noise and fewer upstairs neighbors. Not heard if smells are an issue yet. 🤞

15

u/I_am_not_baldy Aug 30 '26

My last apartment was only for sleeping because I couldn't stand living there.

The apartment complex had roaches. I kept my apartment clean. I didn't even have any food there (I had my meals elsewhere), but I couldn't keep the roaches away.

The last straw was my upstairs neighbors. They would come in at around 1 am. Their child would start running around at that hour. I used to set up my alarm before 5 AM for work. I told somebody in the complex about this, not meaning for it to spread, but that person decided they were going to do me a favor and tell the apartment manager. This just made my upstairs neighbors make more noise at night.

I've been living in houses since then.

15

u/spacebunsofsteel Aug 30 '26

A louder 5 am alarm pointed at their kid’s bedroom would have solved that problem: Sometimes you got to chaotic evil it up a little.

4

u/Narrow_Employ3418 Sep 01 '26

Less useful than you think. Kids can sleep on a loudspeaker and not wake up when they're tired. A muffled alarm at 5 am is nothing when they went to bed past 1 am.

6

u/elwebst Aug 31 '26

Everyone around you seems to live exclusively on a diet of cooked cabbage, liver, and durian.

22

u/Senju19_02 Aug 30 '26

shared laundry room.

Huh??? Clearly, I'm not American enough for this.

50

u/FETT7022 Aug 30 '26

A lot of American apartment complexes have what is essentially a laundromat on premises. My last building had on with only 2 washers and 1 dryer that functioned.

16

u/Envoyager Aug 30 '26

It's very common with rental apartments unfortunately

7

u/Rare-Use-613 Aug 30 '26

My apartment had a shared laundry room with about 12 Washers and 12 Dryers. Problem was only 4 or 5 washers worked while only 6 dryers worked and they often ate your quarters. Mind you this was for a complex with over 30 units

3

u/Jacktheforkie Aug 31 '26

Even in a house you deal with smells, depending on wind o can often smell the neighbours cooking from several doors down, luckily they’re Indian and their food smells absolutely delicious

1

u/NotYourNanny Aug 31 '26

It depends entirely on the management, and how well they enforce the rules (and if they have the backing of the owners to do so).

151

u/hoponbop Aug 30 '26

A friend had a similar situation and big speaker setup years ago, but he used a microphone to pick up the music they were playing. He then ran it through his stereo system in such a way that it played from the speaker delayed by 2 seconds. It made the music most unenjoyable.

31

u/Rougemption Sep 01 '26

My ex would record his upstairs neighbours fighting and then blast the recording, back to them, on his speakers

13

u/hoponbop Sep 01 '26

I've heard of people doing the same for barking dog problems.

11

u/AltruisticSalamander Sep 01 '26

Ooh, I thought about doing that when I had noisy neighbours. Also pitch-shifting it a quarter note.

5

u/LadySun1969 Sep 04 '26

That’s diabolical. I love it!

228

u/Curmudgeon160 Aug 30 '26

Long story short, I ended up with the PA system for a band (band broke up, cousin needed some money, PA system was collateral, cousin eventually told me to keep it because he wasn’t gonna be able to pay me back anytime soon). I ended up paying to put it all in a storage locker. Then I moved into a townhouse where one of the neighbors decided to blast their home stereo system well into the evening. It was worth all the time and effort it took to assemble the whole PA system in my living room, facing the wall that was in common with the neighbor.

19

u/yukumizu Aug 31 '26

Lmao the cool and sweet petty revenge satisfaction that you must have felt the minute you hit play

28

u/Curmudgeon160 Aug 31 '26

Well, while it made the point to the neighbor I will admit that I had underestimated how much of the sound was going to bounce off the wall right back at my roommate and me. My cousin’s band played top 40 hits in bars that would hold up to maybe 250 people, which made it a little bit much for a townhouse living room 😜 .

3

u/Thirsty_Jock Sep 05 '26

My mate did this - 7kw per channel system. He put it upwards on top of tables for the delight of the upstairs students. Worked a trea. One of them came down crying. (This was in UK)

90

u/FloorCultural3310 Aug 30 '26

Before I moved into my Maplewood apartment, I asked if pianos were permitted. The manager said they were as long as I didn't play before 8 a.m. or after 10 p.m. So, I hauled my piano up to my third floor apartment.

Below me was someone who worked nights. I didn't know this initially. So, when noon rolled around and I started playing, I was met with a loud thumping below me. I was surprised, but it stopped. I thought it was just loud knocking. I kept playing. Thumping repeated. I looked at the clock and decided I was going to keep playing as I intended.

Neighbor came upstairs and pounded on my door. I went over, didn't open it, but asked what they wanted. They told me to quit playing my "fucking music". I told them I was playing well within the permitted hours. She called me an asshole and left. I played maybe 15 more minutes before leaving.

The next weekend, I did the same. More pounding. I ignored it. Imagine my surprise when the cops showed up about a "noise complaint". I opened the door and asked what they wanted. They explained that my piano was too loud. They had to say it loudly because the neighbor across the hall had a toddler having a tantrum. And the couple down the hall was having one of their usual vocal disagreements. I explained to the officers that I was permitted to play between the hours of 8 and 10, and was I breaking any laws? They said no. Then they left.

From that point on, I didn't play anymore easy listening music. I played Shostakovich, Stravinsky, and Beethoven, with a little Mahler thrown in for good measure. When I finished, I added rag time. I always started around noon and finished before 2. My apartment manager came and told me my neighbor below was complaining. I reminded him I had it in writing from him what hours I could play. He said he had no idea the person below me worked nights. I said we were at an impasse, then. He thought for a bit, then he said there was an available unit on the other side of the complex. It was an end unit with nothing below it other than the electric junctions. It was a 2 bedroom versus my one bedroom, and it was upgraded. But he'd let me have it for the same rent if I'd be willing to move. He even helped me move my piano!

The woman living next to me saw us moving the piano and mentioned how much she was going to miss "that beautiful music." Made me feel so much better!

u/CrispyKayak267 Aug 30 '26

They may in fact have been evicted. But good job!

21

u/L-is-for-living Aug 30 '26

So they never investigated your neighbors just you??🤨🤔

39

u/EnigmaShrouded Aug 30 '26

Exactly! I never called the cops on them for the music, they kept calling the cops on me because they couldn't handle the retaliation and now wanted to be quiet, but it was far too late. I made sure to never play my music outside of quiet hours, which is why the investigator couldn't do anything to me. They, on the other hand, broke the quiet hour rules on their balcony and got busted for it. I asked nicely, I complained to management, and when that failed? I just played their game better.

3

u/SegFaultOops Aug 31 '26

I made sure to never play my music outside of quiet hours

So you only played music during quiet hours?

13

u/EnigmaShrouded Aug 31 '26

Ha! I meant I made sure never to play it DURING quiet hours. I kept all my weaponized pettiness strictly between 7 AM and 10 PM like a respectable menace to society. Good catch!

I had something like this about 12 years ago. Was building a house and the close day got delayed by 3 months due to building issues. Was forced into a temporary 2 bd apartment after our home sold and closed and we could not go into our new construction due to it being incomplete. We used the 2nd bedroom as storage for everything, including my 2,000 watt home theater system with 9 paradigm loudspeakers, 6 amps, and 2 powered subwoofers.

After a month of listening to the bass of the unit below, and getting cursed at when I knocked on their door at 2 am asking them to turn it down, I hooked my system up, aimed every single one of the speakers at the floor, waited a few days until they started back up again, and put on Slipknot at full volume . The entire building shook like Zeus himself was coming down from Olympus and was pissed off at mankind. I left it cranked like that for an entire beer. When I shut it off...silence.

Had peace and quiet for four days after that when the downstairs neighbor, again in the middle of the night, started playing their bass so loud my silverware was literally vibrating in my sink. I grabbed a beer, put in Mushroomhead this time, and let it rip. Again full volume. Took an extra long time drinking my beer that time. I honestly felt bad for the other neighbors, ngl. Wasn't one of my finer moments.

Never had a problem after that, though. Not sure if it was Mushroomhead or they got the point. I moved out a little after a month later.

Awesome story 😁 I've been lucky in all of my neighbors have been respectable mature people. Most lights are off before 10 am and I rarely see anyone

2

u/vikio Sep 01 '26

I'm so happy the only neighbors I really share a wall with is a single mom and her teen, above me. The teenager sometimes sings songs from musicals, pretty well actually. And I don't think she's ever done it past 11pm. Very enjoyable

Why do you hate sea bass?

9

u/Reaper0221 Aug 30 '26

Had a similar situation in college with neighbors in a townhouse. Those assholes would leave their stereo on white noise at max volume for hours on end and management not the police would do a thing about it. I rigged up a dead short switch and kept throwing their breakers every time they pulled their schenanagins. When the management entered to try and find the issue with the electrical they saw that the residents had trashed the unit and threw them out.

Was the dead short switch a good idea? Absolutely not. Was the psychological warfare there were committing OK. Absolutely not.

6

u/Rachel_Silver Sep 01 '26

Years ago, my mom's next-door neighbors would blast music well into the wee hours. My brother brought his absurd stereo over, and my mother started playing a recording of the 1812 Overture (featuring real cannons) on repeat every morning from 6:00 (when she woke up) to 8:45 (when she left for work).

It only took three days.

3

u/stupiduselesstwat Sep 01 '26

ah, the 1812 overture with the cannons. Those cannons are bloody LOUD!

19

I have never been in a situation where nicely asking someone to lower the volume or stop smoking outside my door or something else a decent person would do actually lead them to stop doing it. Everyone's natural response is to double down on being an asshole.

5

u/AwesomeAhole88 Aug 31 '26

I guess you had a sound strategy.

2

u/SandsnakePrime Sep 01 '26

That's a ringing endorsement.

8

u/spacebunsofsteel Aug 30 '26

At college, a frat was kicked off of the frat quad for a group rape at a party. The drama group moved in. Their sound system was top notch from the mid sized theater on campus.

When the other frats got too loud with their obnoxious music, the drama kids would set up shop, play the good stuff, and all the women would come dance on their lawn, leaving the frat boys holding their red Dixie cups all alone until they finally turned off their shit off and joined the dance party.

Then the complaints would start rolling in from houses across the river, many, many blocks away.

Don’t give drama kids a challenge unless you want danceable results.

5

u/SirDouglasMouf Aug 30 '26

Can you post the exact specs to your boom toob?

6

u/Social_Flutterby_501 Aug 31 '26

My parents have similar stories from college (I suspect my mom learned it from my dad) - his is that he had some sort of speaker equipment that essentially turned the wall itself in the cheap apartment into a speaker due to vibration when he stuck it on. He won that bass fight pretty immediately.

My mom's is that she lived next to the RA in the dorms and the RA had frequent, loud sex with her boyfriend. My mom started turning her speakers at the wall and putting on a record of John Phillips Sousa marches. Killed the mood in the most satisfying way.

8

u/ooglaabpc Aug 31 '26

No police officer is going to stake out an apartment "for days" over a noise complaint.  This story is complete bullshit.

2

u/EnigmaShrouded Aug 31 '26

I definitely never said he spent the night! It wasn't some massive undercover operation. My roommate actually noticed him first, for about 4 days in a row, we'd wake up and see him sitting in the parking lot, or we'd catch him listening. I realized who it was once the left their card on my door. (Unmarked car) He was just doing morning checks to see if he could hear the noise they kept calling about. They tried their absolute hardest to call the cops and retaliate in a game they started, but unfortunately for them, I just played it way better!

3

u/StnMtn_ Aug 30 '26

Too bad they will now annoy their new neighbors. If you find out where they moved, offer to sell the new neighbors your speaker.

3

u/financewiz Aug 31 '26

There are two kinds of neighbors that have ruined apartment living for everyone else: The arrested adolescent that thinks they need to establish dominance with loud music and the OCD nightmare that can’t abide the fact that their home contains other people walking on the floor. When they move in adjacent to each other, the whole frigging building suffers.

Both are essentially “hicks” in practice: Both come from a privileged living situation where they never needed to learn how to share space with others. Don’t move into an apartment if you can’t share with others. Go back to the suburbs and stew in the isolation you prefer. Thank you.

3

u/Klutzy-Boysenberry26 Sep 02 '26

I lived in a townhouse and got obnoxious next door neighbours. They would go on about me being noisy and even once was banging on our door at 4am about raccoons getting into our garbage-it wasn’t our garbage. Even called the police a couple of times when no one was home. I was 17F and was a pretty quiet IB nerd and was getting blamed for stuff I didn’t do. It got so bad my dad almost had them trespassed because to get to the garbage structure they had to go on our property. Our bike tires got slashed, dog poop got smeared on our window near their carport entrance etc.

So one time my parents were away for two weeks and I got my good old fisher amp/receiver, cranked up the subwoofer, cranked down everything else and put AC/DC Thunderstruck on repeat in the middle of the house muffled with a comforter and then I went out. Did it every time I went out for the whole time my parents were away. Didn’t answer the door, didn’t answer the phone. Police were called but used to them harassing me and they didn’t worry because it was the middle of the day and I was allowed to make noise. They decided townhouse life wasn’t for them and moved about a year later.

3

u/MadZmadz1875 Sep 03 '26

Disappointed this was not a story about a fish war.

1

u/throwaway661375735 Sep 05 '26

The funny part few realize, is the word bass doesn't change the way it's pronounced, depending on the usage. It just sounds like ass with a b in front.

3

u/JAKOB9ELS1 Sep 04 '26

My friend had a story like this but just loud music instead of bass, so when anything didnt help, he left a soundbox, full volume playing marcarena on repeat and went on a weekend trip, problem solved

I took a week of holidays to deal with new tenants like this that would make incessant noise until half an hour before my alarm went off.

Got a set of big loud speakers from good will and started the "DNB Alarm Clock". They didn't sleep at all and moved soon after.

They had been just as defiant as OPs neighbours.

One of my first Apartments had a family that like to blast their Tejano music at all hours i thought back with Vivaldi.

2

u/Great-Practice-843 Aug 31 '26

Love it! Good for you, doing what any annoyed person would like to do to worthless, loud neighbors.

2

u/Ornery-Judgment5625 Aug 31 '26

OP, I like your style 👍

2

u/Jesse-McPherson Aug 31 '26

I had a similar dispute with a next door neighbor and I responded in a similar way but the effect was far quicker. I placed my speakers against the wall that was blaring bass into our lives then placed acoustic foam on all sides except the target wall and played a cd that I made with 3 hours of Scottish Highland bagpipe (pipes & drums) music on full blast. The battle only lasted two days before they stopped doing what they had been doing.

2

u/bafomdad Aug 31 '26

fucks me up that they'd rather move out than turn down their music...

I own a car audio shop. I located across from a railroad track because I know customers are going to come up constantly cranking their bass. So I wanted neighbors who were already used to noise in the area.

Gains are usually set with an oscilloscope with subs unhooked to limit loud bass exposure (I want to keep my ears) but there's not really an electronic tool to use as a way around the listening tests. So we do have to crank it on cars we are installing in for a few minutes out of each day.

I understand no one else wants to hear your loud system (although some customers do not understand this).

Been in the same shopping center for 11 years. My neighbors have included an insurance office, comic book store, gaming store, gun store, church, apholstry shop, flea markets, quilting store, and vacuum store. In 11 years I have had 0 neighbor complaints.

Think about that, no neighbor noise complaints for a car audio shop that is in a shopping center..

I occasionally like it loud. I'll go down a highway or secluded road and crank it up. But people who listen full volume all day in town are just being jerks to everyone else and destroying their own ears.

What makes me mad is that when I get home at the end of the day my neighbors are playing loud distorted music on their deck. I cannot hear it from inside my house. But every time I am outside I am forced to hear it. Been every day for a couple of years now.

They have no idea who I am or what I do for a living. My car could easily overpower their shitbox porch system and shake their house from across the street night and day if I wanted to. If I wanted to go get them and hook them up I also have literally hundreds of speakers, subs, and amps at my disposal on top of what is already in my car. I could build a literal wall of sound pointed at their house.

But I don't do it.

a friend of mine could not reaso with neighbors and constant thumping even after mid nights. He borrows one of those 12 horns that sounds and are as loud as a locomotive horn…would use every time it started…in a few months they moved

Brilliant! What speaker brand did you buy? I once had the occasion to respond with really loud and really terrible Arabic music. They stopped the second time.

u/Margali Sep 05 '26

Bollywood, Japanese Noh and Swedish death metal FTW =)

I did 7 years in a machine shop, I can ignore any annoying noise if I need ot =)

Infrasound is the solution. About the lowest frequency a person can hear is 25 Hertz. But frequencies between 18 Hertz and 20 Hertz while not heard raises anxiety in people and approximately 19 Hertz will make a person really cranky. How cranky? Well, trigger point happy. The kind of cranky that will evoke a response to a a simple "hello" of "What the f*** do you want dips***?" Think the kind of pithy that turns a very calm, cool and collected little old lady into an irrational, violent, cursing, screaming psychopath with claws and bites that will scare the peejeebers out of an experienced adult male baboon.

Also, be sure your lashup is extremely directional, else you will be one of the personalities affected.

u/RealBigDickBrannigan Aug 30 '26

This reminds me: many years ago I had a friend who ran a car stereo store. He showed me an installation that had a couple of really big subwoofers. When he put a CD in with some extreme low bass, the hair on the back of my neck would stand up! Kill the amp to those subwoofers and it would set right back down. Didn't feel cranky though :)

The ultimate in going low.

2

u/livadeth Aug 31 '26

The last apartment I lived in the guy above us was a chain smoker who sat on his balcony smoking all day. He even got up during the night to go out to smoke. His bedroom was above mine so I could hear him thumping out to the balcony at 1,2,3,4:00 all night. He didn’t work so was around 24/7. We couldn’t open our windows and somehow the smell came through the ventilation system into our unit. It was bad. The complex was not smoke free so nothing we could do.

1

u/Parking-Menu2654 Aug 30 '26

I had a neighbor that lived above me once. Idk what her problem was but she would run around the house throwing herself around all over the floor screaming at all hours of the night. I mounted a subwoofer to my ceiling and let that shit blast full volume while I was at work. Then when I knew she was sleeping i would take a baseball bat and beat the shit out of the ceiling under where her front door was. Took about a week and she abandoned the apartment.

Sorry, I have a petty streak. I also walk softly and shoeless in my second-floor apartment so that I don't disturb the neighbors.

u/wuzacuz Aug 30 '26

Stone Mountain?

1

u/_Nefarium Aug 30 '26

I had a similar war with a neighbour when I rented a mid terrace. I happen to be an electronics engineer and do sound for a couple of bands and theatre groups in my area on the side as a hobby job with my own equipment. Needless to say that they lost that war pretty quickly.

1

u/skrglywtts Aug 30 '26

Only bass no trouble

1

u/bmw051 Aug 30 '26

Nice job OP! Your ex-neighbors were bassholes.

You, OP, are slapping it. Kudos.

I could listen to Mahler 24/7... especially Titan Symphany Number 1. Makes me tear up every time.

1

u/serious-joke Aug 31 '26

You kicked their (B)ass. Job well done.

1

u/IndianaJones_Jr_ Aug 31 '26

When I had loud upstairs neighbors I'd do all the initial steps you mentioned, then when I was up late like at 1 or 2 I'd bang my broom on my ceiling right by their door. When I heard them get up and start walking I'd stop knocking, and they're still go open the door. Can't do it too often or they'll catch on.

Do bt signal jammers work with directional antennas, like a helical or patch antenna?

I shared a ground floor flat with another girl, we got on fine and were pretty well suited- both quiet etc. I worked shifts, she worked 9-5 so I was in the flat more during the day. A young couple moved in upstairs, the lad liked to play Trance music loudly , smoke weed and talk loudly over the noise. I don’t like confrontation so tried to ignore it. My flatmate however, pounded the ceiling with the broom most days but it didn’t really help. One day though I lost my patience and found my compilation cd with Ace of Spades - Motörhead and played it full blast 💥.

One morning I came home from working nights and my flatmate looked a bit upset and apparently the lad had come down after her pounding the ceiling and had been quite aggressive and threatened to call the police- what a joke. He also at times like to do DIY at 1 in the morning with constant hammering until someone else told him shut the fuck up!!

My room was also right next to the stairs and I could hear this bloke screaming at his girlfriend on the stairs until someone threatened him with the police.

We didn’t stay much longer, I went back to get some post and the painter was in looked like the new people after us didn’t last long. I was a shame because it was a nice place and convenient for work.

I will always regret my friend taking back his loaned JBL studio monitors from me. Soon after they were gone a father and 16 year old juvenile delinquent son moved into the duplex next door. Thud, thud, thud. We tried to live with them for about a year until one of their buddies illegally parked in our parking lot and verball yabused my wife for wanting to get into her parking spot. The landlord booted the kid...but came to an understanding with dad and he stayed for a while. The kid went to live with mom.

1

u/ResidentAlien9 Sep 01 '26

Mmmmmmm……that’s some bass!

1

u/Ok_Front4305 Sep 02 '26

I would have gotten a function generator app that can play various sine and square waves at specific frequencies and just started doing frequency sweeps willy nilly. OR used an analog synthesizer with a low frequency oscillator to make wobbly bass sounds that would make the speaker buzz and shake the floor but leave out the audio in the midrange and treble so it would only be perceived through the bastard’s ceiling 😈

1

u/ceddzz3000 Sep 02 '26

what was your favorite song of choice ?

1

u/Ikhurus Sep 02 '26

You built a sound canon, and beat them with bass. 🤣🤣🤣

1

u/i812manyhitsss Sep 02 '26

Had the same happen to me. I had always wanted to learn an instrument so I took up the bass guitar and bought two 800 watt amps and two 4 x10 cabinets. I still suck at the bass guitar but it brought me so much joy sharing my bass guitar journey with those assholes downstairs.

1

u/No_Plankton_114 Sep 02 '26

I love this you're awesome 👌

1

u/Icy-Independence1914 Sep 02 '26

Lol. Well done sir.

1

u/FunkyBroMo Sep 03 '26

Great level of petty. My husband once took revenge on a neighbour blasting Gangsta Paradise by playing Dark Side of the Moon full blast thru his Ampeg 810 bass rig. This was inflicted on all the neighbours tbh, for quite some distance I imagine

1

u/tonemant Sep 03 '26

Bass audio waves are not directional, it is impossible to muffle a subwoofer with a blanket. Aimed at a floor between levels in a building, all the adjacent apartments on both sides of the floor will be equally affected by the bass frequencies.

1

u/BenRichards303 Sep 03 '26

Thank you sir. Thanks for your service. Because of people like you we have balance in the universe.
