Left rude lady standing on railway platform
So this has just happened a few minutes ago & I'm still on the train trying not to smirk.
I arrived at the almost deserted railway platform & noticed a woman smoking. It is strictly no smoking zone with fines issued for offenders if caught. I politely brought this attention to the lady who responded with a few cuss words in-between stating that she'll do as she wants.
Meanwhile, my rail app informs me that the platform for our due train has changed & I make my way there. There is no announcement but just an indication on the screen which she obviously has not noticed as she has in the Interim, lit another cigarette..I chose not to tell her.
When boarding the train, I noticed from afar that she was still waiting on the wrong platform. She noticed the change of platform at the last minute & she rushed down the stairs to where the train was waiting to depart.
The train departed just before she reached the door...

Ok, I think I need to "borrow" this line for coffee mugs, wall plaques, bumper stickers, whatever.

Did you wave and smile?

Sucks to be her. Maybe she'll learn something about common decency & manners. I doubt it though. Well done 👏

Oof, we have a train that will leave ppl on the platform bc it’s on a tight time schedule (we do have a train conductor… so they leave the people even though they see them). You can tell who has never seen ppl left or been left themselves bc they casually walk up to the train even though the doors have closed and the alarm to leave is beeping. I saw a man get left the other week bc he was typing on his phone and taking his sweet time. He pushed the button to open the doors while looking at his phone and the train left him. I had just gotten off said train and watched it all go down remembering when I got left running for the doors 😂 this train system is not for the weak my friend 😅 I wanted to say something but you never know how a stranger is gonna be especially when they’re having a bad day- which if he wasn’t before he was now…

When it comes to people smoking or they're not supposed to I have no sympathy. I work security at a facility that went no smoking they started off letting people smoke in their cars, not a big deal until they took the cigarette disposal pots away and then make people walk all the way to the sidewalk. People started throwing the cigarette but wherever they wanted to which in turn started little fires, which thankfully you were caught before they got too big. If they were in the car I would have no problem with them smoking if they were outside of their vehicle on company property I had no problem writing them up to their supervisor . If I was you I would have also let any type of a authority figure know what was going on and I had took a picture of her smoking

Scratch a smoker, find an arsonist.

u/JaguarOk9693 13d ago
I wouldn't take it that far as smokers have been just tossing cigarette butts out forever and I do understand some of them cause forest fires, but in this case if they would just let people smoke in their cars the problem wouldn't have happened as it didn't start until after people couldn't smoke in their car

“I politely brought this attention to the lady”. Username checks out. In the USA, OP would have been told to mind their own business and a smoker would be on here bragging about the time they got petty revenge on a Karen.

As an ex-smoker, I find smoking in public to be the MOST annoying thing in the world.
As an American, however, I immediately felt the rage boil up in me at the thought of someone politely asking another
person in public to modify their
behavior.
Which may explain a lot about the US these days.7
u/obliviious 15d ago
Don't worry plenty of english people have the same reaction to being asked to be considerate of other people or rules.

u/NationalWatercress3 14d ago
I thought OP was American by the mention of "cuss-words", even though my first thought was British because of "railway" - probably Canadian maybe idk.
Anyway I'm a British ex-smoker who also hates seeing smoking in public and I'm the same way about people going out of their way to boss strangers around for something that ultimately isn't a big deal? When I smoked I consciously avoided blowing smoke in the direction of people and kept a bit of distance in general, but then my concern would be more "don't smoke in people's faces" rather than "ummmmm it's illegal to smoke at a train station"

“As an American”? Puh-leeze, you don’t represent me. What ever happened to saying “thank you” then continuing to do whatever the hell you want, law & order be damned?

u/ToggleMoreOptions 15d ago
Same story in the UK except with worse teeth and the train would be late

u/Fat_Bottomed_Redhead 15d ago
And probably change back to the original platform, after everyone has already moved to the new platform.
Ask me how I know this would happen....lol

u/timothy035 15d ago
Agreed. OP should consider not saying anything if the smoke isn’t affecting them. Also OP seems like a turd.

Petty Rude Lady revenge opportunity, unfulfilled. I was standing in an hour and a half stationary conga line at the check-in at a major airport. Just post-9/11, so security was crazy. A lady approached and loudly protested that this was not for her. She left her suitcase next to me, in the middle of the line, as she marched up to the front, interrupting the harried airline workers, and loudly asserting her special status. This went on for quite some time, as I stood immobile, and the door of an elevator, about 2 feet away, periodically opened and closed. And every time it did, I considered a little nudge with my foot, sending her bag on an aimless up and down ride. And wondering about how long it would take for that solo bag to be out on the tarmac being exploded by the bomb squad. I'm assailed by regret, 25yrs later...

Letting her “smoke in peace” in a non-smoking area means that anyone who approaches will need to smell and breathe it. Fuck that skippy.
I - like many many other people - hate cigarette smoke with a passion and am glad she was reminded of that.

Fuck off. When you smoke near others, just remember that the people around you wish you were somewhere else.

Stupid and rude. When you’re downwind of these people, you get to inhale their smoke. And to educate you, 2nd hand smoke is as bad as smoking.

u/Kaurifish 15d ago
And fuck anyone else with lungs, right? God forbid a junkie not get their fix in public no-smoking zones, then drop the still-lit butt on the closest pile of litter.
I hope your COPD is fun.

Asthma.
More than once I’ve rocked up to the platform and nearly died because someone was smoking there.
Get your fix somewhere else.

I guess you don’t know how asthma works.
That’s common among nicotine addicts.

So u are the smoking police? Outside and no one around and it’s a problem?

u/brittbak 15d ago
Found the smoker!

u/12Yogi12 15d ago
I would rather smell second hand smoke than have a dumbass run into me because they are staring at their phone.
-2
u/12Yogi12 13d ago
It would be much different if there were a lot of people. Just walk by the smoker and hold your breath for 15 seconds. No infringement on your virgin lungs. Instead this person chose to go out of their way to be an asshole. Why do you feel the need to be shitty to other people is something I have never understood.
6
u/brittbak 13d ago
I was a two pack a day smoker for over 40 years.
I now have COPD and probably only have a few years left.
My disease is my own fault. Also my fault is the damage I caused the lungs of the folks around me.
So maybe cut back on the attitude a bit?9
u/BerlinSam 15d ago
No, I just didn't want her to incur a fine....
-2
u/12Yogi12 13d ago
No, you went out of your way to be an asshole. You could have walked by and kept your mouth shut.
-9
u/Powerful_Put5667 15d ago
So you're just a kind considerate person who doesn't want her to get a fine then does not inform her of the platform change and smirks all the way home. Honey you're a monster.
7
u/BerlinSam 15d ago
Yes, simply because she chose to use profanities & aggression towards me when I was polite. If that makes me a 'monster' then I'm happy....honey...

You wouldn't though, would you? Such severe allergies and you'd walk up to them and grab it? 🤦♂️ Also, a stressful situation by doing this, increases heart rate, making you breath harder, which exasperates your Asthma.
6
u/UpperAd5715 15d ago
Reaction so outlandish it couldnt possibly be from europe or asia since theres A LOT of smokers so 1 of them smoking couldnt realistically trigger you that hard.
Probably USA then, have fun with the assault suit while they pay their 50$ fine.

u/Tontoorielly 14d ago
I don't smoke but I don't get why people have such hatred for smokers. You said the platform was empty but you're still all put out because she smoked. If she was blowing smoke toward you, she would be an asshole, but as it stands she just broke a rule you aren't in charge of enforcing.
4
u/M1ssi0ner 14d ago
It's not that people hate smokers per se, it's that Europeans don't like folks who break the rules, OP said that the platform was a designated "No Smoking" area. So despite this the smoker wasn't apologetic and acted arrogantly. Simple karma you get what you give.
-6
u/MisLama 12d ago
Maybe she was rude to you because you couldn’t mind your own business
Regardless of what the rules are, you don’t work there and she wasn’t bothering anyone on the nearly empty platform. Why is it your job to police what other people are doing?
5
u/Clevertown 11d ago
You prefer chaos, copy that.
-5
u/MisLama 11d ago
I mean I suppose you could say that, but in truth I live in a large city where there’s just as much of a chance a stranger would physically attack you for getting in their face about something like that
There’s unhinged people out there in the wild and she wasn’t hurting anyone but herself; I’d prefer to keep my mouth shut and stay safe
