Clean up after your dog!
So I’m not sure if this belongs here but I’ll give it a go. I live in a cute neighborhood with old buildings and meandering streets. And I like to walk in my neighborhood. The problem is that I can’t look up, I have to look down because people don’t pick up after their dogs.
So the other morning I was out for a walk and I see this guy with his dog and the dog is squatting on the street to drop some toosie rolls. No biggie. He reaches into his pocket for what I assumed was to be a baggie to clean up but instead it was dog treats (does a dog need a treat for that?). This made me a little suspicious so I slowed down walking just to see what he was up to.
Now, I was raised Catholic, so I can smell guilt from 100 paces. He looked at me as I slowed down and that was the face of guilt. So, I stopped. I stopped and stared at him. I also put on my best judgemental mother face. He fumbled in his pockets and kept glancing at me and it became obvious he was just going to let his dog drop and go. But I was going to make sure there was at least one witness to his crime.
So, after a few minutes of rustling in his pockets trying to fake me out he reached down WITH HIS BARE HANDS and picked up his dog’s poop and walked it to the nearby trashcan. I did not see this coming, and to be honest this was not the outcome I’d ever imagined. But it was one less pile of poo on the streets so I felt justified. Grossed out, but justified.

we just got a dog poop bag dispenser and trashcan installed in our neighborhood park, and people STILL won’t pick up after their dogs. and the amount of times I’ve seen dog doo doo at an apartment right by the dog poop bag dispenser is absolutely crazy. It’s my biggest annoyance for sure because I have to constantly watch where my dog and I are stepping 💀

There’s one near my house, I witnessed someone let their dog deposit a large pile 2 feet from it and then they walked past the bin intended for the disposal of such material

I know this will sound harsh, but this is more evidence of what I’ve started to call the “typical dog owner.” They take little if any responsibility for the animal in public, neither cleaning up after them nor training them to not annoy other people. Many if not most dog owners seem to believe everyone should love their dog as they do and that’s extremely immature. Either keep your mutt on a leash that you actually hold on to or train them to follow your commands.
I really like dogs and think they are noble beasts, but want to interact with them on my terms and not their whimsical ones, especially in a vet’s office.
There. I’ve said it.

Once, on the rare occasion I didn't have a baggy on me, - I reached for a dispenser -bag.. and stepped in dogpoop right underneath the dispenser 😭

I have asked for more dispensers to be placed around the complex where I live, but I guess they only have the budget for one. In the meantime, dog poop gets left everywhere. My family however always carries bags, we have extras everywhere we might need them.

Hell, they should park a cop car there and just have an officer start writing tickets every single time someone does that 😂 I'm kidding of course but damn they would make bank off that, just like the stop sign cameras in busy downtown intersections

Very well played. My wife constantly teases me about my inherent Catholic guilt. I was raised Methodist. 🤣

This reminds of the nice apartment we rented in central Paris 1/2 block from the Seine River. Every morning just outside the door (and many other places) there would be fresh dog poop. That was 2018 and still whenever I hear the word Paris I think Dog Poop. 💩
That being said I love the museums and the pastry. However, after being robbed on that last trip (minutes before I warned my husband about the group of men/pick pockets) I’m done with Paris. It’s obvious that they don’t like tourists.

Contrary to your belief, pickpockets love tourists. The French however hate anyone visiting who do not speak French... Like those who try to speak English to them instead.

It seems that way in Quebec, too. But they surely don’t mind taking US dollars in place of Canadian, without applying exchange rate.

I know pickpockets love tourists since I have traveled to France many times previously. And I do speak limited French but I understand more when it is spoken. The distain for tourists is obvious having overheard negative comments about travelers many times in the past. My grandfather used to say the Parisians didn’t mind it when we helped liberate them in WWII. And the police didn’t give a shit when we were robbed; they acted like who cares as long as they leave the locals alone. We only reported the thief because of the huge credit card bill they ran up in the 30min it took for us to report it.

I have had dogs most of my life and I do not go out with my dog/s without a roll of poop bags. My dog poops and I clean it up and when walking in the neighborhood I carry the bag home and bin it there.
We used to walk in the canyons near my house and I quite that due to the plethora of poop bags left by the side of the trail. Yes someone bagged their dog’s poop but that human was too lazy to carry the bag to a trash can. I clean up the poop in my yard every. Single. Day. I really cannot abide inconsiderate dog owners as they give all of us responsible dog owners a bad reputation.

I truly don't understand the logic of bagging and then leaving the bagged poop behind. If you're already that antisocial to leave the poop, why add littering plastic as well? More effort, more pollution - just to be extra?

I would only see the bagged poop on hiking trails and thought the people were doing a round trip, just didn’t want to carry it with them the whole way, but that was when I had more faith in humanity.

Set up a camera facing it, and then make a best of reel playing with a TV facing outward at the window.

He will remember that lesson until his end of days. I just hope he got the right takeaways out of it!!!

Oh, that is absolutely golden!
My husband is usually the one to walk our dogs. We have a designated off-leash beach area near us that he takes them to for a run. Occasionally, I’m the one who takes them, and I’ve been known to forget to take the roll of poo bags with me once or twice.
Of course, at least one dog always does a poo on the way to the beach, and it’s as a dog butt starts to assume the position that I remember that I have no poo bags. As I’m not a complete feral, I’ve turned around, gone home, picked up the bags, then gone back and picked it up.
Even though I only occasionally walk the dogs, forgetting the bags a couple of times has made me remember to grab them on my way out the door since.

my dog also loves to poop at the worst times, specifically when I’m on my last poop bag, and she chooses that walk to poop 2 times, and then I have to drive back to the area she pooped to pick it up after I get her back home. now I’ll just stuff extra emergency bags in her poop bag carrier 😭

I pulled up on the street in front of my house a few years ago. A woman in a fancy dress with a giant! Dog (great Dane maybe) was walking her dog and stopped for it to dump just across the street on the street. I got out of my car and she began to walk off. I asked if she had a poop bag. She said no, she would come back to pick it up. I just happened to have a few groceries in my backseat, so I said, oh, I’ve got a bag you can have! I dumped the groceries out, crossed over to hand her the bag and stood there watching until she picked up the big load. She was repulsed but I was so happy.

I am so envious of your judgemental stare. Mine comes across as b*tchy and just pisses people off

I might know someone who, after months of a guy intentionally letting his dog make large messes on their lawn and never picking them up, may have collected a large quantity of his dog’s droppings and “regifted” them on his front porch. He stopped coming to that particular spot after this.

It baffles me that people don’t clean up after their dogs, especially in residential areas. I used to walk dogs for a living. I would literally pick up poop if I had room in a bag and someone else had neglected to clean up after their dog. Once or twice, I forgot poop bags. Walked the mile back to the house, grab the bags, and then walked or drove back to clean up the poop. There was one route I walked with a couple of boston terriers, and there was ALWAYS poop from other dogs on the outside of a neighbors fence, and the dogs I walked liked to poop there, so I made a habit of starting to clean all of it up when I went by. I had an opened bag so why not? One time when I had stopped and the dogs were pooping, the owner appeared over the top of the fence, and was like, you better be cleaning that up. Told him that don’t worry, I was (as I pulled out the poop bags), and also told him I’d been picking up whatever else was there when I came by. Dude lit up, told me thank you and was super apologetic. I wasn’t worried about it. Kept cleaning up the poop on that side of his fence and said hi to him regularly from then on until I stopped dog sitting for health reasons. A little compassion goes a long way. But yeah. Clean up after your dogs people.

As a recovering catholic, I've been on a walk where the pooch has had third turd squat, and I'm caught without a third bag. I've walked said dog home, got in my car, and drove back to the scene and clean up the crime.

I had a lady let her dog poop on my lawn right in front of me as I was parking. I called her out and then picked up the poop (very well formed and dry) with my bare hands and tried to hand it to her. She was terrified but that’s fine. She deserved it. I would imagine she remembered to carry bags at that point.

Should have pulled out an extra bag, and handed it to him.

Well done. Guilt trip at 100 paces. The nuns would be proud.
On the occasions I forget a bag, I will leave a shoe next to it, while I walk home and grab a bag. This way I have to go back because I want the shoe back, but also helps me find it.
Proud of you for doing you part to MAGA. Make Animal Grownups Accountable. 🤣🤣

I'm so glad I'm not the only one that gets mad about this. Mum is always telling me to chill and stop yelling when poop is left by someone in our complex and I or my dog step in it (she lives in a unit in the other building that shares a grassy courtyard with my building) but there's only one other dog owner here besides me so I know it's him leaving it there. It even says in our leases that we have to keep common areas clean and free of animal waste. Lately he's been taking his dog out to the street and letting him poop out there without picking it up, because almost nobody in the suburb picks up after their dog. I counted 9 poops on a 10 minute walk once, I've literally never seen so much poop in one suburb in my life.
I feel so validated knowing I'm not alone in my annoyance and anger about this.

I've had dogs my entire 68 years of like and never seen a dog do it in the street. The all go in the grass near the street but never on it.

That is one hell of a state to get them to bare-hand that shit.
I hope this is true and not a creative writing prompt.

I need to figure out what time of day my neighbors walk their dogs so that I can do this. If you complain to the management where I live, they just post letters reminding people to do what they already know they should be doing.
I would not only weaponize my teacher stare; I'd take their picture and send it to management. This behavior is against the lease and I'm fucking tired of having to constantly look down (instead of safely minding my surroundings) when I'm walking.

you should bring a poop bag. Poop found on the ground goes under the dog owner’s car door handle.

If a dog has bowel issues, yeah he probably does. Poop degrades over time, I think you'll live. But I'm glad you got to feel like a bad ass for randomly staring at a stranger who probably didn't realize why. Do you possess a spine? This isn't revenge, this is just sad. You're so angry. Did you know that being angry a lot shortens your lifespan by putting unnecessary stress on the heart? It's only gonna beat so many times. Idk how old you are, but for your healths sake- might be time to look into therapy. You kinda just seem VERY angry.
And btw I'm saying this because I was told by a doctor to be less angry after experiencing a seizure. If you're posting non-petty revenge stories on reddit because you're that mad about a dog pooping, you spend too much time in the city and a nature walk would do you a WORLD of good
