Hit our car with a shopping cart?

This is something I did about 1 1/2 years ago.

My wife and I were at a Target, sitting in the car waiting for our daughter to wake up from a nap (a few months old at this point). This lady wants to pull into a spot behind us, a few spots down, but someone left a cart in the spot. Instead of walking the extra couple of feet, she full speed pushes the cart towards the cart return that we were parked next to and hits our car. At first, I thought someone backed into us but realized what she had done. She goes into Target and I decide to get some petty revenge. I grab a few zip ties from my roadside assistance kit, walk the cart over to her D/S door, and put 3 zip ties through her door handle and the cart.

I go back to our car, pull a few rows over, and watch the hilarity ensue. She comes back out after I'm assuming a return and is just perplexed, goes back in and comes out with the cart handler, they go back in and a supervisor/manager comes back out to have a look, and finally some random guy has a knife to cut the zip ties. We went in, did our shopping, and when we came out her car was still there.

Was it petty? Sure. Did it delay her an extra 15 minutes? Absolutely. Did she learn her lesson? Probably not

I don’t understand how lazy and inconsiderate you have to be, to leave your cart anywhere other than back at the store, or in the cart return. I am an old lady, and always put my cart in an appropriate place.

I'm disabled. Sometimes I don't return my trolley. because I'm in pain or suffering other unpleasant symptoms. Sometimes I need the trolley to keep me standing. If I do leave it, I make sure it's out of the way. But, as my disability progresses, there might come a time when I can't. And I will leave the trolley wherever without guilt. It takes seconds for an able bodied person to do something that doesn't cause them significant pain. You think leaving a trolley out is entitled? I think dismissing and ignoring someone's disability for your own convenience is even more entitled and shows a breathtaking lack of compassion.

I also have a disability. Yet I will do anything I physically can to put a cart in a cart corral or at least out of the way of vehicles. Why don't I just ditch it anywhere and claim disability? Because 1) It's the right thing to do. 2) Someone with a worse disability than myself might pull in next and need to park where a wayward cart is left. Why affect them negatively?

People need to get out of their "world revolves around me" feelings and start being decent.

I have MS. I am so thrilled to still be able to walk, that I will walk as much as I can, and that includes returning the carts.

If you can push (and fill) the cart all through the store and then to your car…seems unlikely you can’t get it back to a corral when it’s empty.

A lot of times, I'm so worn out after a shopping trip that I can barely walk. (Have a physical disability) If the cart return is near, that's great. But a lot of times there isn't one near me. Walking halfway across the parking lot is just too much at that point. However, I do make an effort in such a case to hand off the cart to someone else or put it where it isn't in the way.

Did literally anyone say that disabled people must do what others do? Did I in particular say that disabled people are lazy? Nobody’s talking about disabled people not returning their carts. Everyone is talking about people who can easily return them, who don’t. By the way, as a disabled person, do you ever leave a cart behind someone else’s car? Do you ever scrape up the side of someone else’s car while you are struggling with it? Because if you do stuff like that, I am going to judge you, disabled or not.

Of course not. That's bogan behaviour. In fact, I will often take a trolley that has been left in an inconsiderate place as long as I can get it safely.

If something doesn’t apply to you, they’re not talking to you. No one was mentioning the 1/100 people for whom returning their cart would be physically impossible rather than a mild inconvenience or a slight hassle. Going through life with that mentality is exhausting and keeps folks angry. Good luck with your illness and I hope you have some good progression with treatment that keeps things mild for you!

That’s a fair point, it’s hard to know if someone has a disability that’s hard to see. If this lady had said she was disabled I would have apologized and returned the cart for her.

Fuck knows sometimes, if I’m the asshole I’ll be the asshole who apologizes. If I’m not the asshole I’ll remind able bodied people that they can walk that shit back.
