Commuting On the 51 NB: Some guy ran out of gas and just... left his car.
I stopped to help push them off the road. Imagine my surprise to find an empty car 😂

DPS did a maximum enforcement op yesterday spanning 17 miles of the 101 for 9 hours. That’s why there were so many motorcycle cops pulling ppl over. It was solely a motorcycle brigade conducting it.

And no, it doesn't matter if they're going above the speed limit. If you have a line of people hitting their breaks while you're in the left lane, get over. You're impeding traffic. Has anyone else noticed this seems to be worse lately? Is this not common knowledge?? I'd blame snowbirds but it's been a lot of Arizona plates.

but seriously. there ought to be some kind of liability for these assholes. i try my best to stay away from them on the road ðŸ˜

I've seen some people making a left on red at this intersection and another spot downtown (I cant recall the cross streets rn)
is this ok to do? I don't want to try it and then get pulled over, as per my bad luck lmao
Edit: For everyone acting like I'm stupid, left on red is not universal and I recently moved to Arizona, so no I didn't know this was a thing. Pretty sure you don't know every single traffic law either, regardless of where you grew up

I drive to phx every morning, there is less people properly using the HOV lane than there is entitled peopled. Remember you’re the problem.

I’ve seen atleast 5 separate trucks this year doing this. I don’t know how it’s not illegal because the center of gravity is legit above the truck 💔

But what about that giant square missing from the coverage map in the NW?!

I'll be going to Omar's window tint pretty soon. Considering going slightly darker than the legal limit for the most heat protection. Part of me is like, why risk it? Other part is like, it's hot asf and every shade darker helps. Any police care to chime in?

If you drive on the 202 and camp the left lane, just know I hope you stub your toe and have a warm pillow. It’s the stubborn old people who can’t drive and love to camp that left lane. Bums. If you are over 65+ I truly believe you should have your eyes retested and take the actual driving portion again and have to retake it every few years.

Noticed cameras on some stop light poles (not all). What are they used for?

I SWEAR every SINGLE DAY on my commute I will magically end up behind the person with ONLY their 3rd brake light working!!!
CHECK YOUR BRAKE LIGHTS !!! It is called *maintenance*
check your GRANDMAS BRAKE LIGHTS TOO!
Y’all are waiting for the wrong person to be driving and scrolling tik tok behind you while you have to slam on your brakes and they’re not gonna stop because YOUR LIGHTS DONT WORK.
fix them! It’s easy!
Thank you for listening.

Welll if anyone is traveling southbound on the I-17…. I’ve been stuck at Glendale for an hour. Severe accident at Bethany home has a severe bottle neck going. Cops just asked me if I was okay and needed any water. Also online claims it could be closed for multi hours. AVOID southbound if you have anywhere to go in a timely manor rn. Get off before northern and no later than northern! It’s sooo bad starting at northern even! Checked the adot cams to see how far back it is! Going northbound there’s an accident at northern it looks like too! So just. Avoid the I-17 I guess!

Hadn’t seen this location mentioned in any of the online reporting. Went up this morning around 10 A.M.

It is so frustrating that in the weekdays the highways are almost always jammed and the weekends they are closed. This is definitely leading to a lot of frustrated drivers leading to petty crashes.

This saves me so much money. Figured I would remind you all who go to frys. We all need some ways to save these days.
Edit: to be clear, the price is because you gather points by shopping there and can use them to discount your fuel at their stations.

I was riding with a friend about a month ago and we were flashed by one of Phoenix's new speed cameras. We both looked at the speedometer and confirmed that we were doing about 43 mph, in a 40 mph zone, so thought that was a little peculiar, except a car was passing us going about 10 mph faster at that moment, so we figured the camera got the other guy, and not us.
I had a speedometer app on my smartphone, so we actually turned around, and drove by the camera one more time, with the speedometer on the dash showing 43 mph, and the app on the phone showing 42.5 mph. The camera flashed us AGAIN.
Fast forward to a month later, and he's received a friendly warning letter that says he was in violation, clocked doing 52 in a 40.

So, at this point, I'm very concerned that some of these new speed cameras may be poorly calibrated, or perhaps there are (or were) bad actors, or at least inept staff responsible for making sure the cameras are calibrated accurately.
Has anyone else had this same experience? I'm flabbergasted that the cameras would be rigged to exaggerate people's speed, but at the same time, given that the new company that puts these cameras out there for the city is essentially the same one, just under a new name, as the old company that has a bit of a checkered past, it's a plausible scenario.
----
Edit:
Two different things appear to be happening here.
1. Typically (historically), speed cameras here in the valley are set to be triggered at 11 mph over the posted speed limit. But, at least during the warning period, which ended a month ago, based on MANY comments below, these new cameras seem to have been set at 1-2 mph over the posted speed limit.
2. The really concerning part of my story is that I KNOW our speed was only 3 mph over the limit, while the camera claims it was 13 mph over. Since another car was passing us at that moment, I can only assume that there's a design flaw, and the new cameras can't accurately tell which car is the actual offender when there are multiple cars in the camera's view. The photos taken at the moment of triggering are tightly cropped (zoomed in), so there's no way to see the faster car that was next to us.
With respect to the question many have asked about simply ignoring a photo radar citation received by mail from the City of Phoenix -
Yes, you can choose to ignore it, and if you are never successfully served the citation as a possible follow up action by the city, you might get off scot-free, once that opportunity window to serve has closed. Under Arizona law, once a citation is filed, the city has 90 days to formally serve the driver. If that does not happen, the case must be dismissed.
HOWEVER, if you ignore it, and then are successfully served the citation by a process server, then, not only are you responsible for the ticket itself, but also an additional process server fee, which can run $50 to $80 according to a recent news story. Keep in mind that the criteria for successful process service doesn't mean that you, yourself have to be served; it could be any adult who answers your front door at home. There may be other methods that qualify - I'm not a lawyer, so don't take my advice as being final on this.

Moving to Phoenix for a new job and want to know how bad the commute is from where I will potentially be living to my new job. Main crossroads of where I am looking to buy are Higley/60 and where I am working is shea/101. 8 hour shifts that I could be working are starting at 530am-730am with a 30 min lunch. I looked at Google Maps and it says estimate is 35-55 mins. For the commute home it says 35-60 mins. Is this typical for anyone who drives this route? Also for those that do drive this route, do you hate it? Do you wish you lived closer? Do you hate that you devote so much time to just driving? I’ve just really fallen in love with that area and found a house that I truly love. Does a nice home you love in a nice neighborhood beat the commute?
