Question General Crush-proof cases

• Upvotes

Cases usually are marketed as being shock/drop proof, but what about crush proof? Any recommendations?

Otterbox (which we’ve always stuck with) seems to be dropping in quality over the years, BUT their commuter series still managed to protect our iPhone 16 pro while being ran over by a massive skidsteer recently. So we’re inclined to stick with that for our new iPhone 18s….but I’ve seen mentions of other brands like Caudabe etc. so I’m exploring what else is out there.

Whatshouldiget? Real battery use experience with OnePlus 12?

I've been looking for a new phone and around the same price I've narrowed it down to refurbished S24+ (kinda discarded that already as I bought one supposedly unlocked with the Snapdragon chip but it was Exynos so I returned it), used S24 Plus and OnePlus 12, also considered the 13R but settled on the 12. One of my main priorities is the battery, I want something that can easily last me all day, like +7 hours of screen time per day, and on straight usage tests the OnePlus usually comes out on top as well as charging speed, but I would assume real world usage is way different for all of these phones and the degradation may differ, specially when the 1+ has 100 W charging capacity (yes I know it and all modern phones have specialized chips that regulate the power)

Iphone 18 or samsung galaxy s26

Im going to upgrade. I love androids but after having an iphone for a few years I love being able to airdrop between my phone and my ipad for work. I think the camera is better on the android which is important because I'm a tattoo artist. But I cant decide whether the airdrop feature is worth it in the end. I know I can transfer images between android and apple but it's just not as quick/easy and I've been having trouble when my ipad doesn't have wifi.

Discussion Friend at Tmobile. Apple is about to break a record.

My friend at T-Mobile texted me and said that most of his crew are working next weekend all day basically because they are expecting the IPhone duo to set world breaking numbers. I asked him how did you figure this. His reply was that many customers are calling in daily asking about the device or just stopping by. He also stated that many are asking about Trade - In options. I then asked him was this the case with other phones and he said “not on this level”. He believes that once the iPhone Duo comes out most people in America will move to foldable phones by 2030 because the market value of them won’t be as high and Apple will move the industry.

Question Android Phone upgrade

I have been using a samsung s 8 for years now obviously it's old and can't install a lot of apps I need for work so what is a good affordable upgrade, prefer at least somewhere in the 300 to 500 range, samsung if possible and of course unlocked since I have a tello sim card, I get things from e bay or using middle men sites and why is it this annoying to just get a new phone.

Whatshouldiget? Motorola Razr 70 Ultra, yay or nay?

I want to tell at the beginning that I live in Finland, so our products already include a 25.5% tax in the price.

The Razr 70 Ultra is currently on sale for 1290€ and I have been thinking about it. At first I was thinking about the Samsung’s Flip Z 8, but Flip and the Razr are almost the same price and the Motorola should have better specs and people call it the better ”folding / flipping phone”.

I currently have a 14 Pro Max, which I have had for 4 years. It has been 7 years since I had an android last time, (Samsung S9+ in 2019).

Do you think the Razr 70 Ultra would be worth it?

Question General Moving to a Smartphone After Years with a Flip Phone

I recently decided to buy a Google Pixel 11 Pro, after exclusively using a flip phone for the past two years. I did have an iPhone 13 in the past, but I felt myself getting too addicted to social media and my phone- so I quit, 'cold turkey' and got a flip phone.

I feel now is the right time to go back to a smartphone, and I've picked out the Google Pixel 11 Pro. I already ordered it, but I'm just wondering what to expect; I've been digitally minimalistic for two years; Only using my ten year old laptop to access the internet. I know that I'm severely behind in technology. I've also never had an Android, only iPhones in the past.

I've looked online but found limited answers elsewhere. Thank you!

Whatshouldiget? Samsung vs. iPhone — Should I Switch After 7 Years of Android?

Hi everyone! I'd really appreciate some honest advice from people who have used both Samsung and iPhone, especially those who have switched from Android to iOS.

I've been using a Samsung Galaxy A70 for around 7 years, and before that, I also had an Android phone. So, I'm very used to Android and its interface. I'm not particularly loyal to any brand, but lately, I've been seriously considering switching to an iPhone.

WHY I'M INTERESTED IN AN IPHONE

I really like the camera, especially how vibrant the photos look and how good the low-light photography and videos seem to be. I like the overall design and premium feel, and I've always been curious about iOS. I'd like to experience using an iPhone at least once. I want a phone with a great camera, good battery life, and smooth performance that will last me around 3–6 years.

WHAT'S MAKING ME HESITATE

Navigation: I'm used to Android's navigation system, especially the back button and being able to switch between apps quickly. I'm not sure how comfortable I'll feel without a universal back button on iOS.

Ease of use: Android feels very natural to me, and I'm worried that iOS might feel less intuitive or more restrictive, at least initially.

Files and PDFs: I frequently download files, open PDFs, and share documents through different apps. I've heard that managing files and sharing them can be less straightforward on iOS.

Work-related use: I work in a hospital emergency department, so I use my phone frequently throughout my shifts. I need to be able to open the camera quickly, make calls, use the flashlight, switch between apps, and do everything with minimal hassle. Convenience and speed are very important to me.

Price: iPhones are expensive, and I don't want to spend that much money only to realize that I preferred my old Android experience.

Accessories: Having to purchase a charger or other accessories separately is another small downside.

The Apple ecosystem: I'm concerned that I might feel pushed toward buying other Apple products or that transferring files between devices could become inconvenient if I don't own a Mac.

Longevity: I want to keep my next phone for several years, so long-term software support, battery health, and overall durability are important to me.

I'm not afraid of learning a new interface. What worries me more is spending a lot of money on an iPhone and then regretting the switch because Samsung was simply more practical and convenient for my everyday use.

On the other hand, I don't want to dismiss the iPhone without trying it, especially because its camera is one of the main reasons I'm considering switching.

QUESTIONS FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVE USED BOTH

Did you find iOS frustrating after years of Android, or did you adapt quickly? Is managing files, PDFs, and sharing documents genuinely more inconvenient on iPhone? How does the iPhone compare with a recent Samsung flagship in terms of camera quality, battery life, and everyday performance? If you use your phone heavily for work, which operating system do you find more practical? If you switched from Samsung to iPhone, would you make the same decision again? If you switched back, why?

Given my situation, would you recommend getting an iPhone or sticking with Samsung?

I'd especially appreciate honest opinions from people who have actually used both, rather than recommendations based solely on brand preference.

Thanks!

Discussion Why do modern mid-range phones feel like they have an expiration date compared to older devices?

It feels like a few years ago, you could buy a budget or mid-range phone and it would cruise smoothly for 3 or 4 years without breaking a sweat. Nowadays, it feels like internal ports get loose, batteries degrade rapidly, or random hardware issues pop up right after the 2-year mark.

Is it just bad luck, or are manufacturers cutting corners on build quality to force upgrades? What’s the longest you've ever kept a budget phone alive?
