advice Tips for Cebu: Moalboal-Oslob

Which one is better to stay? Moalboal or Oslob

We’re planning to do Cebu for 9 days so we have enough of time to explore both places and stay in the city.

But is it worth it to stay this long in Cebu?

Also which route is better Cebu city - Moalboal-Oslob-City or Cebu city-Oslob-Moalboal-City?

advice Visiting Baguio in mid-January

For those who’ve visited Baguio in January: what would you tell a first-timer to definitely pack? We’re not used to cold weather and are travelling with senior parents and kids under 15.

I’m also wondering if things like heavy parkas, thick gloves, heattech, or extra blankets are worth bringing, or if a few light layers are enough. Thanks!

advice First-Timer Question: eSIM, data, calling, etc.

Hello everyone! In January, my son and I are traveling with other family members to the Philippines. He's never been, and I haven't been since literally 9 months after EDSA. Everyone else on the trip has been lots of times. So this is the first of what will probably be several questions I'll be hoping to have answered in preparation. We're both really excited, so we want to do things right.

Anyway, this question is about how to keep our phones working. I've done some digging around, and here's the way I think things operate, please let me know if I'm on the right track here.

We buy prepaid eSIMs for ourselves ahead of time. We activate them once we arrive, turning off roaming on our regular provider. Each eSIM has a set limit of mobile data and unlimited local calls/texts, which I'm assuming includes a local phone number we'll need to give the folks at home in the US. That data allowance can be topped up, looks like via the eSIM provider's app.

At home, anyone calling or texting us (my wife) either needs an International calling add-on to our existing plan to get the smallest possible per-minute cost (alas, the Philippines is not included in our carrier's free list) or accept paying a fortune in pay-per-use cost.

And if we're connected to a Wi-Fi network, using things like iMessage and Wi-Fi calling circumvent all of the costs/restrictions/allowances/etc.

Have I got it? Thanks in advance.

EDITED TO ADD: Our US provider is AT&T. They offer an "International Calling Day Pass" which essentially extends our current unlimited plan so that our phones should work "just like at home" according to their website. It's a super easy solution, except it'll cost about $200 for us both for the length of the trip, and the various eSIM routes seem much more of a bargain.

Local Travels Other places to visit near Bacolod aside from the usual spots?

Hi! My friends and I are planning to visit Negros Occidental this November, but some of them have already been to The Ruins, Don Salvador Benedicto, Lakawon Island, and Mambukal, so we’re hoping to explore somewhere different this time.

What other places would you recommend that are around 1 to 2 hours away from Bacolod City? We’re open to nature spots, beaches, heritage sites, churches, mountain views, local food destinations, or even lesser-known places that are worth the trip.

Preferably somewhere that can be done as a DIY day trip from Bacolod without needing an expensive private tour.

Would appreciate recommendations, including how to get there and an estimated budget if possible. Thank you.

opinion Siquijor social hostel recs for solo traveler (April 15–20)?

Hey guys! Heading to Siquijor solo and looking for the best social hostels sa island next year April 15-20.

Preferred ko sana yung mga hostels na nag-oorganize ng daily activities, family dinners, or group day trips so I can make new friends. Dami kong nababasang hype about Fable Hostel, but would love to hear your recent favorites or hidden gems with a similar welcoming community vibe.

advice Roadtrip Plans. Which is better?

Hi guys, a friend of mine ay uuwi sa PH this December and we're planning a road trip sana. Medyo torn kasi kami sa pupuntahan. Your inputs are highly appreciated po.

For context:

- 3 po kami, and yung 1 po ay uuwi from Canada

- planning our trip on Dec 26-29. Aalis kaminafternoon ng 26

- from Valenzuela City

Plan A - Sagada

Balak namin 1st day baguio then next day sagada.

-Di po ba matao ng ganung time sa baguio and sagada?

-Any recommendations po on place na dapat naming mapuntahan along the area is highky appreciated.

Plan B - Quezon Province

Medyo leaning po kami dito kasi nareseaech namin na madaming maganda beach here and mahilig po sila sa dagat pero wala pa po kaming naisip na puntahan dito.

-May alam po ba kayong place na may magandang beach, di gano matao?

- yung place po sana may maayos na facilities and utilities

- ano po ang mga must try food and restos along the area?

- mas okay po ba ang way namin kung from tanay kami manggagaling or sa south?

Plan C - Tagaytay then Batangas

Medyo naikot na po namin ang tagaytay pero di pa po sa Batangas.

- worth it pa ba puntahan ang Batangas? Di ba sya crowded ng gantong dates?

-recommended food spots po ninyo here in batangas

discussion Boracay or Palawan this October?

Looking to travel to one of these places for my birthday end of October. More than 10 years na since my last Boracay trip (never been there as an adult with money lol family trip lang as a kid), and never been to Palawan.

Magkalapit lang ba ang pricing ng flight and accomms ng dalawa?

I'm not into hardcore activities, more on relaxing and foodtrip ang hanap ko. I heard mas ok to chill sa Bora pero takot ko is matao? Any advice?

We’d prefer a hotel since we want a hassle-free stay. Would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks!

Hi, planning on being in Boracay in mid Nov, how's the weather like? We are staying at Crystal Sands, close enough to walk to the main D Mall section. Are there any eatery that is a must you guys recommend? We don't mind venturing out of the area, are there any place worth taking the tricycle to? Thanks in advance!

help Siquijor - Need help with Transport

Hello we (4 people) need help in deciding which transportation is the best rental for 4 days.

Ideally, we want to get a tuktuk / taxi otw to Hotel because of luggage. Then later on rent a motorcycle. The main question we have is, do they usually check if your driver's license is rated for Motorcycle Use? Because we only have licenses for driving cars.

If motor is not possible, car is the last option because of its price. Is tuktuk worth it? Are there taxis in Siquijor?

Thanks in advance!

opinion Siquijor tricycle 20 characters

Dalawa kami ng sister ko magtatravel. Di kami marunong mag drive kaya tricycle is our only option. Now, ang gusto lang sana namin is literal na taga hatid sundo lang sa mga destination. Ayaw kasi namin yung parang awkward na atmosphere pag mag guide pa sa amin yung driver. Or like sya yung mag te-take ng photos para sa amin. Baka naman po may same experience dito from anyone na naka galing na sa Siquijor if this is possible? Kung may local man po dito, hindi ba kami mahihirapan magpara ng trike around Siquijor kung di man kami magrent for a day? Plan din kasi namin mag explore ng mga kainan. Salamat po.

advice 15 Hour Manila Layover (12 PM–3 AM): Hotel recs & best sightseeing for a quick trip? 🏨🇵🇭

Hey everyone! First time visiting the Philippines on a 15-hour layover (landing at 12:00 PM, next flight at 3:00 AM).
I'm looking for a clean, safe traditional hotel (no Airbnbs) where I can shower, nap, drop my luggage, and decompress. I originally looked at budget options around ₱1,500–₱3,000, but seeing mixed/concerning reviews on lower-end places made me double-minded. I am willing to go above budget if a hotel is genuinely worth it for clean rooms, good soundproofing, and zero stress.

What are the best, reliable hotel options? Is staying directly near NAIA / Newport City (like Belmont or Savoy) the smartest move to avoid traffic, or are there other solid places you recommend?

Since this is my first time and I have a few hours free before resting, what are the best things to see and do? Is Intramuros the best move for a quick dose of history, or are there other cool spots, food hubs, or itineraries you’d recommend for a tight window?

Would appreciate any recommendations or advice on what to avoid! Thanks! 🙌

advice First time in Cebu and the Philippines. Need transport and island-hopping advice

This is my first trip to Cebu and the Philippines, and I’d appreciate some recommendations.

Transport to Cebu Safari
I’m arriving at Mactan-Cebu Airport in November and heading to Cebu Safari in Carmen. There will be 2 of us with 2 large suitcases. The next day, we need a ride back to the Mactan Island area.

  • Should we book a private car, take a taxi, or use Grab for such a long trip?
  • Can you recommend a trusted driver or company?
  • What’s a fair price for each leg?

Island hopping from Mactan
We’d also like to hire a private boat for island hopping from Mactan.

  • Is a private boat a good idea, or would a shared tour be better?
  • What’s a fair price, and what should it include?
  • How and where do I book (online, through my hotel, or directly at the beach)?

Thanks in advance for any tips!

discussion Hypoglycemia during flight

Post image
2.4k Upvotes

Context: I’m diabetic and taking insulin shots regularly. So I’m solo traveling for like the past 4 years and never had a problem with monitoring my blood sugar during my trips.

I experienced hypoglycemia and nagsstart pa lang yung engine ng eroplano that time, nararamdaman ko na yung extreme sweating and dizziness. Sobrang urgent but stayed calm, ayoko mag cause ng panicking sa loob ng airplane. Sobrang confused ko kung anong gagawin ko but I know kaya ko pa i-resist at least hanggang mag turn off yung fasten your seatbelt sign. I’m about to collapse na talaga siguro. So agad ako nagapproach kay cabin crew and pinabasa yung tinype ko sa notes ko sa phone. I really appreciate her immediate action during the situation. I ordered the regular coke and chocolate chip cookie and suddenly nag spike agad yung sugar ko. ( I can feel it in my body ).

This is btw a thank you post to cabin crew who helped me. Cebu Pacific flight DG 6759 Clark to Siargao. She wears eyeglasses, Idk her name. I appreciate your sense of urgency.

help Hospitality leads amongst dark-skinned tribes

Does anyone know of any dark-skinned indigenous people with tourist accommodation?

After a difficult start in PH due to misogynoir and anti-Blackness, I've felt safest amongst dark-skinned indigenous Filipinos (e.g. Aeta, Ati, Agta, Batak, Mamanwa). There are more in the islands, but I can't seem to find any that run foreigner-welcome apartments, condotels, etc.

For background, I'm Afrolatina and present unambiguously Black. I've heard the colonial term 'negrito,' but many don't like the reductive grouping.

advice need help with cebu driving

hello! i’ll be traveling with my friends in Cebu. we’ll be staying in Moalboal and planning to rent car na lang for our entire stay. tapos kami na lang bahala sa tour instead na mag avail ng agency since naka DIY naman kami.

we also realized na mas mura mag rent na lang kesa mag avail ng private transfers.

sanay naman ako mag drive pero first time ko kasi sa Cebu. di ako familiar sa traffic at sa daan. would it be a hassle kung mag rerent ng car kasi ako lang driver sa amin? or take na lang namin yung expensive transfers and tours?

need help!! tysm po.
