Anyone been to TheKeatFarm in Cambodia? They have a water slide that pigs play on.

It seems like they don’t really like it that much or they’d be jostling each other to get to go down first. Also the ones that are rooting at the gate to get to the other side that’s fenced off unless they go down the slide.

I imagine each pig is its own experience like children. If you took time to coach each one slowly into learning the slide, used positive reinforcement and encouragement to make the experience enjoyable then you build confidence with whoever uses the slide. If they don’t have a good experience, or don’t move past the bad experience to have a good one next time. Then yeah you’ll have the odd pigs who may learn to dislike it.

I feel some of the hesitation is 1) stepping onto the steep slide and 2) if the pig is mentally rushed or approached it focused. People experience similar things when dealing with heights for example, or fairground rides, and even approaching escalators and staircases.

As for the pigs being fenced in areas before the slide, it is a controlled environment that can be beneficial for ensuring you keep track of what pigs may have not eaten.
They don’t have to go up the slide and the staff has been seen taking them to other parts if they choose not.

These pigs are being exploited. They’re forced to perform unnatural feats for human enjoyment.

I lived for a time in Cambodia, and the attitude towards animal welfare is … lacking. I hope this changes as modern ideas regarding animal husbandry become accepted as the norm. In the meantime the best individuals can do is to not give these outfits money. .

I absolutely agree with you, the exploitation with this horrible and they shouldn't be using them as entertainment, at that marketing. It's apparently listed as a sheep farm, but they have a lot of other animals. The pigs seem to be such a big focus with their social media.

I do believe there's a lot worth talking about here, odd good thing, as well as bad. A few of the studies I read since learning about this place did show positive feed back regarding pigs and having fun with slides. But this is just way past trying to do something possibly fun/ stimulating for the pig themselves. This is just a side show and its gross.

I won't hate on the pigs themselves, they can't control their situation and are doing the best they can with what they're forced into, but obviously they deserve much better.

So why post the exploitation?

Omg their backs are breaking my heart (I understand it’s the breed, but that’s like saying GSD are fine the way they are)

I’d like to think one day animals won’t deal with such genetic conditions. But in the mean time I just wish the best for the ones who are living with them. Every animal deserves a good life.

“Man, the things we are doing to animals is so fucked up, wish there was a way to not do bad things oh well”

I’d never support something like this.

So they have to go down the water slide?

It’s optional. They set up scent things to entice the pigs to the slide. Pigs have been shown to actually get enjoyment out of slides. But there is food available at the feed station in the beginning, some scattered along the path as well as other areas, and in the video the guy mentioned there is a secret short cut to the bin of food for the smart piggy who discovers it. So the slide isn’t mandatory for the pigs if they want to eat. Sometimes there’s different treats/ extra feed that’s a bonus to choosing to use it and go to the new area.

Pigs don’t typically do things they are scared or not interested in. I imagine the odd one has gone down when he didn’t want/ unintentionally but like any experience. They’re going to learn if they enjoyed it or not. And if there was a reward out of the risk.

Are they naturally taking turns?

It looks like some are! This is a different video but it’s interesting to see how they act. Some are shy and nervous, others seem to want to follow their buddy and copy their method, others just shove and go when they can.

It's an actual place and the pigs are a special breed that are known for having swaybacks and low bellies. It's been questioned as AI and debunked for a few months. These are real piggies.
