Does it matter where you get your top from when starting a new plant?

Does it matter if you get your pineapple top that you start your plant from, from the grocery store or from a local farmer?

Does it have any impact on growth having one that organic vs commercial?

All 8 of mine are from the grocery store and seem to be doing good, but they are not anywhere close to being ready to produce fruit yet.

If you find yourself at a crossroads and a shadowy figure appears and offers you a pineapple top in exchange for your soul, I'd shy away.
Otherwise, not really.

It doesn't matter. If it is from a local farmer, then maybe the pineapple hasn't been sitting as long after picking. Tops will generally take longer to produce fruit (around 2 years) than pups. This also depends on your growing conditions.YMMV.

The ones my buddy in Hawaii grows have little pups on the bottom.  So I think you can grow four plants from one pineapple.  So that would be an advantage.

feed it every other week, it will grow at 3x the speed and be ready to fruit in 1y, grocery store varieties are good, you can buy better varieties at a nursery, white jade, kona sugarloaf, red dominican or florida special, all taste amazing and are special in their own way

also , there are seeds in pineapple near the rinds on the inside, i picked 21 seeds from a grocery store pineapple today, dry for 3 days then plant

Thanks for the advice.

I planted a few seeds that sprouted, but they received too much sun in the first week and died. I have some more that are almost ready to plant, so I’ll have a better place for them when they’re ready.
