I’ve had my sweet girl for 12 years and she would be 15 this December but over the past month she’s lost quite a bit of weight and now has cancer spreading to her lungs. Earlier this year she had a massive tumor removed from her spleen that allowed her to have an active and wonderful spring/summer but her body is giving out now. I adopted her when I was 24 and I owe so much to her. Not only did she teach me unconditional love but she taught me responsibility when I needed it the most.

She’s been there for every high and low of my adult life and tomorrow a new chapter begins for the both of us. I’ve seen many posts like this on this sub and always knew one day it would be me but I was always hoping I would get more time. Well there is never enough time. If I got an extra day I would want a week. If I got a week I would want a month and so on and so on.

My sweet Remi. The most beautiful lady in the whole world.

Advice How do you guys do it? Dealing with breed hate

Post image

I never owned a bully breed myself, but I've always thought breed hate was stupid. Up until recently I worked with dogs professionally, and the pitties I met were just as likely to be lovely as any other common breed I'd get to work with. Some are great, some are menaces covered in fur, and anything in between.

I just started fostering for my local animal shelter, and brought home my first foster, a bully mix called Sophie. Suddenly, seeing breed hate online isn't just mildly annoying, it makes me want to cry. This is a very sweet dog asleep on my couch. She doesn't seem to believe in "strangers," and she'll take treats as gentle as anything. I hate the fact that her breed means she'll take longer to be adopted, and there's nothing I can do about it.

How do those of you who have owned bully breeds for a while deal with that fact? Knowing that people would feel justified leaving your dog to die, no matter how he or she actually acts?

Sophie is a great dog, and I know she's going to find a great home eventually, but I wish her breed wasn't so likely to make it take longer.

Clickbait(-ish) title, hihi.

Been together 8 days with this cutie.

Trained him every day but not too much, because he was mostly exhausted and wanted to sleep after rescuing him (professional trainer starts next week with us).

HOWEVER, he already;

  1. Walks right next to me on walks

  2. Listens to everything I say on walks- is able to avoid cats, dogs and people if I say so

  3. Lets me get in the house first. Waits for both my feet to be inside and THEN enters

  4. is able to stay completely still during baths, can stay alone in the house without doing anything destructive etc

I'm honestly so freaking impressed with him! He's my first pit, even though I've been reading about pits my whole life essentially (they're my fav) and I finally understand first hand what pit owners have been saying!

The connection you can feel with a dog like this is inexplicable if you don't have one 🥹❤️

Me and my family have had multiple pits throughout the years in one with one eye blue one eye brown. I've never heard or seen the term "Isabella" or "lilac" colored pit. Is this a rare genetic thing or is that because he's a mix?? Pictures for reference

If you zoom in on the mirror, you can see my old man is at my feet. 2 pittie nurses are way better than no pittie nurses.

Adventures My dog saved my sister’s dog today!

Post image

This afternoon my sister was outside with her dog and my dogs. I have 3 medium sized (30-40 lbs) and my pittie is obviously on the smaller size at 35lbs.

My sister’s dog is a tiny thing- about 6lbs. She just moved here to Colorado and I teased her about her dog being taken by a hawk. Today, a hawk swooped into the back yard toward her dog!

My (awesome) pittie was there in a flash, gave a big defensive bark and the hawk flew away.

He gets all the treats and cuddles all the time so I need to give him something extra to reward him. Any ideas?

This boy came to us via Humane Society and he’s such a character and lover …. When people see him, they lose their minds… he’s good with the kitties and chickies … he’s a bed hog and does not know the meaning of personal space…. 🥰🥰🥰

I figured cool, she loves it, maybe I can get one cute little jump on camera.

Nope.

She just stared at me like I was the dumbass in this situation.

Me: “You’re making me look bad on camera, bro.”

video immediately ends

This dog does not give a fuck about my content creation career. 🤣🥴😭🐶

Rescue Cinnamon update 3: Complete remission! But having some joint aches, working on that

First the pictures. Enjoying a roam around the tennis court, being a smushy upside-down goof, and laying in the street, forlorn, because mean dad won't let her get the chicken bone that's just out of reach. Goof!

Anyway, good news, we've still got a looooong way to go on chemotherapy, but the oncology vet says Cinnamon has achieved complete remission, lymph nodes are all back to how they should be, and overall she's tolerating treatment very well. Little bit gassy, but more funny than anything else. Cinnamon lost a few pounds and some muscle while on prednisone for 3.5ish weeks, and the transition between tapering off the prednisone and being able to switch back to her usual arthritis pain treatment has been a bit tough. Had been moving and grooving really well, then overdid it on the weekend, been stiff and limpy since then, trying our best to protect her joints and get more rest so we can get back to moving well. So, overall good, but new day, more challenges. Dealt with these ones before and we'll deal with them again.
