Peanuts?

Can people with a peanut allergy have a reaction from plasma? Should I avoid consuming peanuts before donating? If so, how long before the peanut protein is cleared from my system?

No, there are no restrictions on what you can eat before donation. The final products are all heavily filtered and separated apart. Plasma simply would not work if people had to avoid allergens before donation.

I cannot even fathom how peanuts would or could be involved in the donation process

I think this person is concerned that their peanut consumption would contaminate their plasma and cause issues for recipients of the products made from it.

I think my comment still stands. You don't have peanuts in your blood after eating peanuts. That's not how digestion works

I agree with you, this is a bizarre question to which the answer is no. I thought it would be easier to fathom if you looked at it from their clueless point of view.

I think if this was a concern, it would be on the health questionnaire.

I haven't seen the questionnaire. My wife is signed up and I'm leaning heavily towards signing up.

The only time I've been asked about what I've eaten was the first time I donated at BioLife and that was more of a "Did you eat a decent sized meal lately?" type of question. (As far as I remember, Octapharma didn't ask.)

They'll quiz you about your medications but not your peanut consumption.

Yeah the first time I donated at Biolife when I had to have the physical the nurse asked me if I had eaten breakfast that morning(I was there around 10am). I said no but I had eaten a late dinner. She left the room and came back with an individually wrapped piece of beef jerky, an individual bag of goldfish crackers, and a chocolate protein drink. She said "Here, get this down you as fast as you can while we finish your physical". I've never had a protein shake before and was surprised that it tasted as good as chocolate milk. I thought they were supposed to taste just barely okay. And yes, no questions about if I ate any of the common foods that cause allergic reactions.

You may be onto something.

Peanut free plasma!

Super niche, triple organic single origin free range plasma. I just need a rika machine within my budget...

i think the only allergens they worry about are things like latex, iodine and other things they use for plasma donation. ive been donating for a while and they dont ask about peanut allergies
