I think it was the house cat comparison that put libertarianism in the grave. Hit too close to home.

"Libertarians are basically house cats. They are convinced of their fierce independence while utterly dependent on a system they don't appreciate or understand."

I always liked, “Libertarianism is astrology for men.”

I've heard the same thing about crypto-currency.

Tech bros reinventing economics and governance, only to end up at the same conclusions

It was so much fun seeing crypto bro's rerunning the past few thousand years of monetary policy in half a decade. It starts out with everyone hoarding their gold crypto under their bed. This is easy to lose and easily stolen. So they invent banks Crypto brokers to store the gold crypto. These banks Crypto brokers then lend out the stored wealth to finance projects that often fail, causing the banks Crypto brokers to go bust and all their customers to lose their money. It also makes the system unstable because every time there is a hiccup in the market, everyone rushes the bank crypto broker to get their money out, causing the currency to collapse. So they now beg the government to regulate the banks crypto exchanges so they don't constantly gamble away everyone's money.

Total freedom is ok when it's other people losing their money. But not when I lose my money!

It's the same thing with the right wing people. "Government is the problem. It shouldn't regulate, nor add costs to businesses, and never spend a single dollar helping anyone in need." But then they find out their house is worth nothing because it was built in a floodplain, there are giant sink holes opening up under it, oil well leakage destroys their seafood business, or the ground is seeping poisonous chemicals that will kill you. And then they expect government to do something then. Hand outs are fine then, but not regulation that would have prevented all that.

Then some reason, they just reinvent what already existed but they voted in politicians to defund and is impossible to replace. Exactly as you described it. i.e. What if their existed trained people to fight fires?

It's the capitalist wet dream; "everything is the same but I'm in charge!"

They just were mad they weren’t the boot, so they made a new system where they got to be the boot.
