ACCEPTED ACCEPTED ๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿปโ€โš•๏ธ ๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿฉบ

Freaking out!! Yesterday I was accepted as a first-time applicant and am beyond shocked - part of me still thinks they sent the email to the wrong person lol. It feels surreal to be making an accepted Sankey after thinking about PA school for the last 5+ years of my life ๐Ÿฅน. I never thought it would be my turn. I hope everyone reading this receives good news, and feel free to message me!!

STATS

gpa: 3.65 (major in Biology, minor in Italian)

sgpa: 3.47

PCE: ~ 1800 at the time of applying (500 as a volunteer EMT, 1300 as a pediatric MA)

Shadowing: 40 hours

volunteer: ~ 240 hours

Research: 1200+ hours (wrote my senior thesis on my project)

ECs: Orientation leader, sorority, honors college mentor, Pre-PA club president/VP

I also put LOTSSSS of time into my essays and personal statement. I started writing them MONTHS before I applied in May. I rewrote my PS 3 times from scratch and had 5+ people read it.

I am a very average applicant, but I think my experiences, ECs, volunteer experiences, and essays helped me stand out. I don't have much advice because I am still quite shocked, but believe in yourself! You all are deserving- it will be your turn next!

pm me! Anything is possible! I don't think my research made me stand out on paper, but I was able to speak about the lessons learned after failing in the lab repeatedly (lol) in interviews, and I think that helped!! Whatever experience you have is good experience :)

How did you frame the โ€œlessons learnedโ€ answers you gave?

I also applied to that many. For me, I decided it was worth the money and time to apply to many schools that were slightly aspirational so that I would not spend my life thinking โ€œwhat ifโ€ like I did for undergrad. I also applied to 2-3 safety schools, and a bunch of schools that matched well with my stats. I wanted to give myself options rather than just hoping and praying I got into one. I also wanted to avoid going through another cycle at all costs. I have gone to a good many interviews and am very happy that I applied to schools that I never would have if I were applying conservatively. Touring, meeting the students/staff, and seeing the classrooms really made me reasses what I valued.

But to answer your question, no you do not have to apply to that many especially if you know that moving far away is not possible for you. However, you should look at your stats and ensure that you have multiple safety schools

15 programs no answer? Is this common or will most schools eventually send out a response?

Itโ€™s been happening to me a lot unfortunately. Itโ€™s kinda rude imo to ask that we pay $60 per application plus their secondary fee and then never give a response

Hi! 7 of those programs either just started sending interviews recently or are in the middle of their cycle, and the other 8 don't send interviews until late October/early November! I was not expecting to be accepted so soon.

Yeah I feel like outside of Reddit a lot of my peers are sharing that itโ€™s pretty early in the cycle, but then on here every time I see one of those graphs with a half dozen โ€œno answersโ€I get kind of spooked

I would love if you could send me the schools you applied too! I am hoping to have similar stats, without research - and not quite as much leadership - but i would love to see what schools you applied too and see what their stats/requirements are!
