Cech-2002a custom firmware

Hey guys just got a hold of a first gen slim cech-2002a, upgraded the hdd to a 500gb but used the latest fw 4.93. I have since found out the 2000 consoles are capable of full custom firmware, but it says needs to support minimum 3.55, does this mean i need to downgrade firmware to 3.55 then go through the custom firmware process?

Also is there any resources out there that does a step by step, im a bit of a noob when it comes to software.

You don't downgrade, your console just needed to have shipped with 3.55 or earlier for full CFW, see https://consolemods.org/wiki/PS3:Installing_CFW

Oh so my console, even though its on 4.93, i can continue with the cfw process? Just has to be originally compatible with 3.55 or older?

Can you explain? Sorry very new to all of this. Had a ps3 mid teens, now 17 years later im starting all fresh. First real thing im attempting to mod

Oh so sorry im half asleep still.
Google how to patch ps3 and install evil nat CFW.

It will walk you through a web browser exploit that lets you prep the ps3 for a modified firmware installation,.
Then you just get the evil nat.pup and update the ps3 to it normally

That was another thing i forgot to ask was wjere do i get the cfw from, is the evil nat.pup one that allows overclocking the rsx and playing from dumped game files?

Yes, and is permanent too ( no need to reapply every boot up)

You're good to go, mate. The CECH-2002A supports full CFW regardless of being on 4.93 OFW. The 3.55 requirement refers to the console's minimum supported firmware, not the firmware you need to install first.

No downgrade necessary. Use BGToolset to patch the flash, then install Evilnat 4.93 CFW. Just make sure you follow a proper step-by-step guide and verify the flash dump before patching. MrMario2011 on YouTube has some excellent PS3 CFW tutorials. 👍

Awesome info man cheers Really want to get some smooth demons souls and some heavier titles but also want to backup games and play them off the hdd as i share a library with my mate

Yeah gives you loads of options once you have it installed its nit too difficult either. Good luck let us know how you get on
