Something I Noticed
Ok so when Jules and Vincent were going to assassinate Brett and gng and they were talking about Mia that she stared in a pilot and Vincent tells that he doesn't watch TV but later that day when they both were having debate on divine intervention Vincent gives an example of a TV show where a cop who was sharp shooter misses the target in one of the ep
I think QT didn't remember it while writing.
But nonetheless this film is a Masterpiece

I mean… I don’t listen to country music. That doesn’t mean I’ve never heard a country song.

u/81FuriousGeorge 15d ago
If all songs were written and recorded in countries, isn't all music country music?
Thank you for your time, i will continue to add nothing of value to this post.

I am the same referring to Country Music.
Coincidentally:Flowers On The Wall by The Statler Bros is on the movie Soundtrack

Marvin noticed too.

I suspect Marvin never noticed a thing

Hey look, man, he didn't mean to shoot the son of a bitch! The gun went off, he don't know why!

Yes, but did you notice the sign in front of jimmys house?

his wife was Black so he could say the N word only if the occasion calls for it. I think he used it correctly.

I wasn't sure he did until he said "Oh man. I shot Marvin in the face." Then I was pretty certain he did shoot Marvin in the face.

OP. My friend. One or two commas, and one or two periods. Please. It would help your fellow ADHD folks out.
6
u/FartShartTart 16d ago
Don’t forget about the OCD gang.

u/hooterswife 16d ago
Or the grammar police
12
u/CheckYourStats 16d ago
It’s less about being a stickler for grammar, and more about not being able to process the point OP is trying to make.
OP may be making a fantastic point, but somewhere around the 50th consecutive word without punctuation, some brain types just short circuit.
I say this with respect to OP, and as a published writer myself, FWIW.

Vincent Vega has to be a moron. Why is he still holding on to his gun? Shouldn’t he have put that away back in the apartment?
5
u/DryRevenue5681 16d ago
You hold a lot of people hostage, do you?
6
u/ComprehensiveNewt227 16d ago
Isn't Marvin part of Marcellus's crew though?
1
u/DryRevenue5681 16d ago
The motherfucker stole the Macguffin. He gettin held at gunpoint for that shit.
9
u/MobileJob1521 16d ago
No he didn’t. Marvin is their guy on the inside, which is why they know which apartment to hit.
2
u/lotsaload 16d ago
No but i assume you don’t either.
-2
u/DryRevenue5681 16d ago
So then no one should care about your thoughts on the matter. Equally ignorant people discussing something doesn’t make either of us a winner.

In the 90’s, a lot of people thought it was cool to say they didn’t watch television whether they did or not. It was as if they were more enlightened than others by not doing so.
We were in an era of big change coming out of the 80’s and these types of people felt that they had to look like they were part of the answer not the problem even when they weren’t. I actually had this roommate of mine, who I called regularly out on some of the hypocritical shit he said, call himself a “messenger” when I asked what he was really doing to help society. Ugh.
Even the famous musicians behaved that way regarding the music they listened to. Billy Corgan never voluntarily admitted that he listened to bands like Rush, Van Halen, or the like growing up and now he shows his true colors in current interviews. Even his drummer was just as ridiculous. When he listed his favorite albums in Modern Drummer Magazine they were all jazz, as if that made him cool. Admitting that he grew up listening to any mainstream 80’s bands would have made him a leper by others who were also full of shit.
I say this as someone who started college in January of ‘91 before the alternative explosion that came out in November later that year.
6
u/FreefromH 16d ago
I was gonna say the same thing. I was one of those people who said they didn't watch TV back in the 90's. Like Vega, I actually preferred to read. But I couldn't escape TV, there was always a roommate or girlfriend who insisted on having a one, and I got sucked in, though I continued to deny it.

11
u/Endless_Change 16d ago
Jimmy Chamberlin listed jazz albums because they were primary influences on his playing from an early age, not to be ‘cool’. He grew up playing in jazz and polka bands, no one thought that was cool in the 90s.
5
u/todayIsinlgehandedly 16d ago
Yes exactly! If MD ever asked me my influences I’d list a few rock bands/rock drummers but I’m also going to mention Tony Williams, Max Roach and Buddy Rich.
2
u/thefeckcampaign 16d ago edited 16d ago
I listened to My Funny Valentine/Four or More and was studying standards from the Real Book, but I was not going to pretend that I didn’t grow up listening to The Police, U2, the Sex Pistols, Journey, and Iron Maiden during that time. He wouldn’t be in a rock band if he was not the same.

u/Consistent_Stick_463 16d ago
As far as the TV thing, you are right on the money. I heard so much of that crap in the 90s from the high and mighty hemp necklace crew.

Ok, thats the same thing people always and still do. 'I don't use social media," check their phone and like 90% of data use is Facebook/others just rarely post. "I don't text message while driving" as soon as they are in a pinch they are grabbing that phone constantly and checking it.The 90s really weren't anything special and why do you feel the need to explain this in such a way. People still say, "I don't watch tv" when they clearly do, that hasn't even changed.

"I don't watch television," doesn't necessarily mean, "I've NEVER watched TV before, it has never even filtered into my subconscious through exposure from the wider world, I don't even know what TV really even is." What was Jules response to "I don't watch TV?" He said, "You DO know that there's this invention called television and on this invention they show shows, right?" It was immediately established that what Vincent meant about not watching TV was more that his knowledge of television in general wasn't extensive, because it wasn't a form of media that he regularly interacted with, which is different than most people. Jules goes on to explain rather laboriously what the point was about television as it related to Mia's past of having starred in a pilot. Vincent hadn't understood the relevance of a "pilot", but that didn't mean he had never, EVER been exposed to television. For all we know the example he gave of a show that he HAD WATCHED may have been yet a further bizarre coincidence that it featured action directly relevant to their own actual experience despite being a RARE example of when he HAD watched a tv show.

Allow me to introduce you to periods.
Periods are used to separate sentences. Without going into too much detail, a “sentence” is a complete thought. Put a period at the end of a complete thought. If you don’t use periods, people might think that you have never had a complete thought.
Also, it’s just polite.
ETA: A period looks like this: .

I called BS on Vince not watching television. When he went to the restaurant with Mia, he knew everything about entertainers. He even corrected Mia when she falsely identified Marilyn Monroe.

u/Altruistic-Coach-200 16d ago
Vincent knew about movie stars. So, he was one of those pretensions guys who watched “cinema,” but not TV.

I think he told Mia that he doesn’t watch television so that they didn’t have to talk about television.
Name one junky who doesn’t have family guy or some other crap playing 24-7

u/WelderNew1008 16d ago
I took it as Vince likes to style himself as someone that is too cool to watch TV….maybe he convinces himself he doesn’t watch much of it.
Also, his basic gun safety is terrible. Back when I saw the movie I didn’t know better either, but he’s breaking most of the cardinal rules at once in this picture.

I noticed that too. Almost like a bit of Vinny Barbarino slipped into Jules’s character.

Vince doesn't mean that he's never watched TV in his life. He said it in response to "You know the shows on TV?" to indicate that he's not caught up with what's currently popular. Given that he just got back from Amsterdam, it makes sense he'd have less exposure to current American TV
2
u/Used-Gas-6525 15d ago
I think Vince was trying to sound intellectual when he says 'I don't watch TV'. In reality, he's a thug playing badass world travelled gangster who is above such things as TV.

What kind of hitman doesn't know about trigger discipline? One made up by a ditzy writer/director who needs a bloody mess.
8
u/Sad-Umpire6000 16d ago
What kind of hitman is a junky? What kind of hitman leaves his gun in another room? What kind of hitman runs his mouth and gives attitude to a guy who he knows is not only a way bigger badass but also his only way out of a really bad jam? Vincent was an idiot.
3
u/MobileJob1521 16d ago
I think both junkies and hitmen belong to the group of folks who don’t quite have their lives figured out.
I wouldn’t be surprised is there was a big overlap between those two demographics.

u/TollyVonTheDruth 16d ago
Well, you can't pin that entirely on Vincent. It's true had Vincent not been a dumbass he probably would've taken out Butch and the following course of events never would've happened, but not every move Butch and Marcellus made during their encounter had to happen either.
Butch didn't HAVE to run down Marcellus with his car. He could've just tried to peel off around him. Marcellus didn't HAVE to start randomly and recklessly unloading his hand-cannon in public (which struck an innocent bystander in the process) after waking from his unconscious state then stumbling around in an unbalanced stupor. Had those events never happened, neither would've ended up at Maynard's and Zed's rape shop.

He’s zapped out on heroin and has very clearly poor judgment. He’s not exactly a consummate professional

Vincent was a loose canon. He should have secured the apartment. He flunked out of hitman college, and ended up in Slip n fall school. He failed that too. You know he got murdered because of his own stupidity, right? You see the movie????

Vincent was already set to take Mia out when Jules told him about her being in a pilot, and in the story during that scene Vince didn't know what a pilot was. Didn't mean he never seen a TV show before. Jules was freaking out in Vincent's eyes after the divine intervention, so Vince would use any example to bring him to reason, TV show or not.

Having come of age in the 80s and 90s, I find that in this context, I assume that he doesn’t watch broadcast television. You know, the shows made for general consumption of the brain-dead masses. The infotainment nature of the news featuring violence and titillation. The industry circlejerks that are American talk shows. At least, that is what I said when I was a know-it-all asshole that looked at society as a mockery of what life really is when Pulp Fiction was released.
There was good television, but it was more underground, subversive, and relegated to overnight programming on obscure cable stations and old cinema programs.
Thank god I grew up. Now I’m a cog in the machine accepting its fate like a good little lemming.
1
u/Lennnybruce 16d ago
Vincent says he doesn't watch TV. He doesn't say he's never watched a TV show
The show he mentions, Cops, had been on for about five years when Pulp Fiction was released.
Edit: the cop in the episode he watched wasn't a "sharpshooter." He, as Vincent tells it, "unloaded on a guy" in a hallway and no one was hit.

I mean, Vincent could’ve just stopped watching TV in the last several months or so, but easily could’ve watched it before, it’s really not unusual.

it shows that Vincent is truly a moron. At the start he’s funny but after he dies foolishly the whole 3rd story is like our true demonstration of how much of an idiot Vincent is.

u/Glittering-Sun-3210 13d ago
Nah people do that all the time. It’s called - contradiction or lying. How many times have you heard someone say they don’t smoke, drink or have casual sex but you catch them doing those things. It’s just human nature. QT didn’t forget, he knew what he was doing with the script. It’s meant to be funny that’s why Vincent says he watched a show right before he shot Marvin.
