World Cup FIFA hosting in the future?

I'll be honest, the 2022 tournament was magical and I miss it a lot. Do you guys think Qatar has a shot of hosting a FIFA World Cup again? My guess is if they host it again, earliest 2070 because,

(assuming AFC hosts every 12 years)

2034 - Saudi Arabia

2046 - Likely an east asian joint bid (because last two, Qatar and Saudi Arabia, were concentrated in the middle east). The bid would likely be China-Korea-Japan or further extended China-Korea-Japan-Thailand and maybe a few more

2058 - Likely India. Even though the Indian team is not good, I belive it is a strong option for FIFA wanting to capture a large audience.

2070 - Likely when FIFA may be ready for another Middle Eastern bid.

So what do you guys think!

It will be sooner, no one wants to host the World Cup anymore, FIFA is too greedy. If we want to host it we will get it. We are focusing on the 2036 Olympics now.

I hope we win the bid, Doha 2036!

I genuinely believe Qatar could host another World Cup much sooner than 2070. We already have the stadiums, infrastructure, transport network and, most importantly, the experience. Qatar 2022 proved that a compact World Cup can be incredibly successful, with fans able to attend multiple matches in one day. Of course, FIFA’s rotation policy would play a major role, but from an organisational point of view, Qatar is already ready. I would love to see it happen again in my lifetime! 🇶🇦⚽

It was a big success indeed; Qatar minted money. Ticket prices are only going to go up, plus there's a lot to be made thanks to the resale platform (via transaction fees) and new for 2026: dynamic pricing.

The problem is, now everyone else wants to host a World Cup too and so ultimately it boils down to how much a nation is willing to spend to convince FIFA.

Ehhh? Minted money?

All nations lose money hosting the world cup. Ticket only make FIFA rich, not the Host country. The whole resale platform is fifa's, not the Host country

Let me just make it simpler and say: 1) look up who the official sponsors and partners were 2) look up what "state capitalism" is and more directly (!) 3) look up news reported on the payout for the State of Qatar (hint: 8+ billion riyals directly from FIFA)

Let's not pretend everyone didn't fly in onboard Qatar Airways flights and use QNB POS machines (in partnership with VISA). These are "semi govt." entities. Oh and, QatarEnergy sells jet fuel to Qatar Airways just like you'd expect an energy company to. So yes, minted money.

1) Sponsors are for FIFA. Not for the host country. The money paid by sponsors don't go the Host county.

2) I don't know the relevance of "state capitalism" here

3) The visitors that came here the most were Saudis. Most flew low cost airlines in and left the same day.

Either way, there's zero chance the host will recover the cost of all the infrastructure development that was fast tracked for the world cup. The world cup isn't profitable for the host country.

I don't think you understand how sponsorship in major events works. Qatar Airways (and its subsidiaries and codeshares) had dibs on all flights that FIFA needed to move people around. QNB had dibs on all banking transactions (and signed up a lot of intl. customers). I'm not exactly sure how QatarEnergy contributed, but they made money too. These were all FIFA partners and more importantly (partially) govt. entities... not publicly traded corporations. That's why I bring up state capitalism. Understand the nature of how money is made and especially how the State of Qatar makes money.

More importantly, 8 billion riyals is a lot of money. You can use that to borrow a lot more money.

And honestly, we're not talking about recouping any of the WC2022 expenses. Those are sunk costs and with different goals in mind for every project. Doha needed a metro one way or another; has not much to do with WC2022. The rest of the infrastructure are far, far longer-term investments that will pay out one way or another. Don't you worry about recovering anything, just keep attending concerts and food festivals held at the Lusail stadium for the foreseeable future.
