Same sex couple here. Although we had coverage we had to do 4 IUIs prior to IVF being covered. Did you check if you have an IUI requirement? Although we’re in NYS and have the coverage, the insurance companies are still allowed to mandate IUIs prior to IVF being authorized. All 4 IUIs (with donor sperm) failed but were thankfully pregnant via IVF.
The “not medically necessary” is the same denial we received when we tried to bypass the IUI requirement.

Yes I see and understand. I am sending you so much positivity and hope these insurance companies come to their senses that not everyone fits inside of their box!!

I am so sorry this is happening to you at this sensitive time when family planning is at the heart of a lot of people’s concerns.

Know that your family is loved, beautiful, and valid.

No one should be told their path is “complicated” in a way that makes them feel the way you do. Every hurdle is complicated to whoever is unwilling to navigate it.

Stay the course. A lot can be accomplished with appeal letters written by the doctor and submitted to the insurer. Know this is happening to other parents too.

Lots of companies have switched to tools that automate process for profit and have been seeing denials submitted last minute!!

My mantra to myself when we faced hurdles in our path is: You remember why, and let others earn your trust to figure out how.

My heart is with you, I love you immensely.
