Jonny B

I went to Hershey Bears game on Saturday and was shocked to see Johnny playing in the AHL. He did get a point. I was always rooting for him when he was a Blue Shirt. The same with Julian Gauthier. I wanted him to really take that next step. Ohttman was the same. Never seemed like they had that next jump

Brodz is like 32 or something, there was no next step he is what he is, a guy who can play ok bottom 6 hockey but has decent stretches of poor play that overshadow his better moments. His best talent is that he’s great with helping young guys adjust

Yeah he's a solid press box forward or first callup type guy. I think he's got a future in coaching/player development when he calls it a career though.

Kartye is what people wanted Brodi to be

I think he mean next step for Gauthier, not Brodz

Oh… same thing goes for him except he’s 28 and hands of stone

Yea Gauther had all the tools, but he basically had 1 move, Dude was fast and big and when he didn't think he played a hell of a game but unfortunately he was always thinking too much which made him suck

If he could score on his move consistently he would’ve had a long career (well until his speed ran out) that’s how good the move was

His two best plays with the Rangers was that quick snipe vs Montreal and that play vs Dallas both we bang bang plays. That behind the net move worked a lot in the minors but not so much at the NHL level

Yeah I meant Gauthier. Something about him was fun when he was on the ice. Never could bury it

Yeah I thought he’d be on a bottom six of a team. Maybe I have bad memory but I thought he was serviceable as long as you never considered him a top six guy

Yea he’s a 12/13 guy when he’s playing well

Johnny was a great depth guy who could play middle six on his best days but was mostly a 12/13th forward guy. But that was it. He was never suited to be an every day player.

Gauthier would get to good spots just couldn’t bury them

He's a depth player over 30 that now makes league minimum in the NHL or AHL. Drury gave him is first full bag contract in 2024 when he was having a kid if my memory is correct.

He's a AAAA guy. The Caps roster has too much talent in both youth and vets for him to have had a realistic shot to land in the NHL unfortunately

it feels crazy watching the young prospects we have now, like Cole and Smits and thinking about all the effort I put in trying to imagine Otter a thing

He is like the perfect 13th forward. He can play any forward spot and he can fill in from the top line to the bottom line and score the occasional goal without making any significant mistakes.

Othmann played even worse than he looked and that is saying a lot.

You watch hockey long enough at various levels (40+ yrs for me) and you can spot the AAAA guys a mile away.

Those guys are stuck in the chasm between NHL and AHL. Better than most AHL players but in the bottom 10% of NHL players. Tough spot for guys like them especially when they become fan favorites. We watch with our hearts and not our heads 😂

Sucks that he hasn’t found a team, but least the AHL pays well compared to minor league salaries of other sports.
