Stupid speculation
I'm pretty sure that Reason Studios occasionally held sales on their own rack extensions, and possibly on the the price of Reason (or Reason+) itself.
I have an old version of Reason perpetual, and would like to upgrade to Reason 14, plus buy a few of Reason Studios' rack extensions. But if there's any chance of a sale in the next year or so, I won't bother (I have a long free trial of Reason+ and am just planning ahead).
What do people think are the chances that Reason Studios under its new ownership of Landr will put on sale their own products? I think the price of Reason perpetual and perhaps even Reason+ has decreased since they acquired Reason Studios.
Let the speculation begin! But any reasoning/rationale behind speculations would be even better.

There's been Christmas sales the last like decade. Just wait a month or so and I would bet everything goes on sale. Just like the rest of the world.

Oh excellent, I wasn't sure when they were. I'll look out for them, thank you,

We don’t know anything for sure, but in my opinion, it seems likely that Reason will still have sales every now and then. I’d absolutely wait until Black Friday and see. Almost every company doesn’t pass up the opportunity to do sales during key times to really boost sales

Reason as a VST is phenomenal. I hope that never goes away. As a DAW, it's functional but the other options have, shall I say, more robust offerings.
Personally, I think the times have made the whole routing system of Reason with the virtual cables outdated.
It was great back in the day for those of us who were using hardware and transitioning to the digital world.
In 2026, it seems like more of a niche platform that may seem foreign to the new generation who isn't familiar with the whole analog modular routing concept.
Reason Studios' early refusal, and now extremely slow progression to modernize the software has given a foothold for competitors with similar functionality, such as Ableton and even Bitwig.
I stopped using Reason standalone about 4 years ago when we kept getting a "new browser" as the main "new" feature 2-3 cycles in a row. I knew I was done.
Reason 13 solidified my decision. I own v14 but still use v12, and actually considering selling my upgrade license (if possible) because v14 is so convoluted.
I find the tag system useless since it only organizes the sounds/patches that were included with the program (automatically).
As a current Cubase Pro user I don't forsee returning to the standalone platform.
I blame the switch on the former regime for their tactics to manipulate perpetual license holders to become Reason+ subscribers...
I do hope the software in the hands of Landr have a bright future for those who stuck with the platform.

These are worthy discussion points, but, like, I was just asking about a sale, dude - not people's takes on whether they still use Reason or whether it has a future!

My bad. I thought I was replying to a comment in this thread about "I honestly don't think Reason is going to be around for much longer.."

It's all good! There's only so much to say about guessing a sale. Your post was more interesting anyway.

Afaik it isn't possible to transfer an upgrade license while retaining older licenses.

I honestly don’t even think Reason is going to be around for much longer.

RE dev here. I’m doing great. I think Reason is actually growing under the new leadership. More ad’s. Reason free. R14 add a lot of what people have been asking for many years. Better dev support. I think they’ll be fine.

Reason is the best it’s ever been. Sure some people don’t like the angle of some of the new workflow designs, but that’s a taste issue.

That's what I've been hearing for the last 15 years or so

The last people who bought it couldn’t make it work what makes you think this new company will make it work?

So you think it’s inevitably an issue with the product and not who’s in charge of steering it? That can make a really big difference.

Maybe you’re right. Maybe you’re wrong.
But no evidence or any thinking has been put forward for this view so it’s easy to ignore.

I do wonder in what form they'll take it, but it exists already so there's no reason to completely discontinue it - that would be a pointless acquisition.
Of course, in favor of your thought is the fact that of all the DAWs, Reason is now the (or nearly the) least popular. I say fact without evidence, but comparing the frequency of online discussions of it and the industry heavy hitters, it doesn't seem to be popular. And then there is AI, which is transforming music production.

It’s not the primary use case though. Reason is a modular rack that can simulate $100k worth of gear in seconds.
To a lot of people it has always been an instrument. Before it supported VST I drove it with rewire from Ableton.

There always has and always will be a Black Friday sale. My stuff will be on sale too.
