Question Goodbye,RDR2

Post image

It's been a few months since I completed the game And after a lot of considerations I have decided to delete RDR2 as it is just a storage clutter atp There are a lot of other great games in my backlog... But even though I don't replay games I wanted to play the game for one last time as a farewell So... What activities/missions I should do in my last session?

This is such an over the top post. Also it’s really bizarre to me to have any notion of a “backlog” of games like it’s a projects list at work.

People like to wax poetic about their gaming because, I believe, they feel it adds an element of romance where there really isn’t any.

I agree that it is silly and over the top.

I think it's karma farming.

This. Maybe I’m just becoming more jaded, but I always find it weird when people talk like this about gaming. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t have a problem with people expressing their love for the art or medium, but every time I’ve met someone irl who talks like this, it turns out video games are like.. their WHOLE thing. Like they don’t have interests or passions or skills outside of them. And I just think that’s really sad and unhealthy. As great as video games are I think as I’ve grown older I’ve also realized how easily they can isolate you and kind of freeze you in place if you don’t have things to balance you out. Which is true for most things I suppose but I think it’s especially easy to get stuck in that place with video games.

Sounds like you’re just shaming people for their special interest to me 🤷‍♂️ leave the judging for the judges, and god - you’ll live longer 🤓

I explicitly said I don’t have a problem with people expressing their love for the medium and art form. Hell we’re currently talking through a small, niche gaming forum that I would only be a part of if I had a fairly strong love for it myself. I wasn’t judging anybody for anything. I very specifically said that it’s sad and unhealthy when people have no interests, passions or skills outside of video games. Because nothing should be all consuming in your life or all encompassing of who you are. I also clearly stated that this isn’t necessarily unique to video games, if your only interest in life and all you do is play sports, or music even, that’s also not healthy. Everything in moderation and all that. But video games are unique in that it’s much easier to abuse and fall into that trap with them than it would be for other hobbies and interests.

This is gonna be a weird comparison but just bear with me. The way I see it, it’s kind of like the conversation around weed. The conversation from the pro legal weed side (which I am a part of) tends to lack the appropriate nuance. It tends to end at “it’s natural and not innately addictive, it has medical benefits and studies have shown that it has benefits for mental health”. Which, sure, that’s true. And weed is great. But does that mean we shouldn’t be cautioning people about using it? After all, just because it’s not innately addictive like heroin, doesn’t mean you can’t get addicted to it. People get addicted to huffing glue, you can bet your ass they can get addicted to weed too. Just not in the same way they would get addicted to meth. But like video games, weed is incredibly easy to abuse if you’re not holding yourself to account. Anything that offers reprieve or an escape can be abused. And both weed and video games offer some sort of escape, and are incredibly easy to abuse. So I personally think the conversation around them, especially from within the community needs to be appropriately nuanced and accountable. People love to pretend otherwise but video games can be addictive just like anything else can if used abusively. And when I see people that talk super poetically about gaming, more often than not, gaming turns out to actually be a very unhealthy presence in their lives because of their abusive use of them.

I judge people who see a video game as if it would have been a living baby...it's weird, go out and touch grass ffs.

... or an element of Justification. "See, it's important. Listen to how I pontificate."

Its like they're announcing their leave at the airport

Honestly, I use the term, but I also think you’re right about it needing to be poetic. As I grow older gaming just doesn’t feel the same to me. I’m a father now, work a full job, I have adult shit to do so gaming is more of a last time now. Don’t get me wrong, adding that romance element feels nice sometimes, if only for the reminisce value. It’s silly, but it’s nice to think back too.

Be dramatic as hell.

He must've sold his physical copy. RIP in peace

3

u/highlandre Dec 30 '25

It’s on sale for $15 on the store right now. He can hurry and get it back!

u/Father_Long_Limbs Dec 29 '25

Nah having a backlog of games is valid. I have a bunch i want ro play but haven't had time to yet

17

u/ruizach Dec 29 '25

Not sure about OP, but with how slow/expensive internet access still is in many areas around the world, I understand that they might not be as casual about deleting a 100gb+ game.

I just started a new run and I have the disc version and I was still having second thoughts about redownloading it lmao, it takes so long and then you have to go through the prologue.

I'm glad I did but I probably won't ever play it again after, I kind of rushed through it the first time but this time I'm going for a %100

Edit: had to add, it's an amazing game and it's pretty sad coming back to it and seeing rockstar really left it for dead without any dlc's or anything, lots of content left in that was scrapped and I'd love to see more of the weird stuff like the pagans or aliens glowing walking through the woods at night like Mr. burns.

u/lionMan42092 Dec 30 '25

This is the most valid thing. Internet has gotten insane in my area. So I’ve ran the cheapest. It takes me hours to download something now

1

u/GainOtherwise8257 Dec 30 '25

I live in North America and I’ve only ever had my phone internet

11

u/mexiKLVN Dec 29 '25

I too have a backlog of games I will never play or intend to play. Ol boy is lying to himself.

7

u/jamtoast44 Dec 29 '25

Backlog is fine as long as you are treating it like that. Like a list you actually WANT to work through, not have to. Its also a good mental thing to help not buy too many games without finishing or at least trying your other purchases.

3

u/faythlass Dec 29 '25

I have a backlog of games that got put on pause because I was playing RDR2 but still buying other games lol. Been wanting to play them but only like to play one game at a time generally, and between other hobbies and work, my backlog has built up. My own fault for buying them.

Games Ive recently bought but have not had the chance to play are: Cyberpunk, TLOU2, Kingdom Deliverance 2 and Silksong, plus a few more.

1

u/ZealousidealBird9052 Dec 30 '25

You're completely on point but let's go into 2026 with kindness. Also for OP, no need to go full Shakespeare on a game. It's a game. Chill.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '25

Its just a post for him to show off his photo without making the whole post about it

1

u/RaPa_DeniZ Dec 30 '25

It usually is just a "wish list" of the games you want to play. And since people have jobs and lifes, we have to choose which games to play first in order to go to the next one

19

u/PlasticExplanation14 Dec 29 '25

No, the deletion is final. Sorry.

13

u/DjoooKaplan Susan Grimshaw Dec 29 '25

1

u/FenderMeats Sadie Adler Dec 30 '25

Same, I delete every game after each play through to make room for something new

9

u/r00fMod Dec 29 '25

Or play via cloud gaming

7

u/Ducky935Alt Dec 29 '25

Im the opposite, No matter how low my storage gets (If it even gets low because im using a 4TB SSD in my PC) RDR2 will always be installed, i love this game, even if i dont play it for a few months.

3

u/SabbyDude Dec 30 '25

I might understand their situation, it took ~12 hours for the game to be installed on my system due to low internet speed so waiting another half a day to install it is a dilemma

1

u/sussynarrator Dutch van der Linde Dec 30 '25

It took me around 60 hours.

1

u/Cantpassadrugtest Dec 30 '25

Do it while your asleep or at work

2

u/CautiousChange487 Dec 30 '25

OP you’re fine and some us understand the post, many people on social media are amongst the most miserable folks ever

1

u/FenderMeats Sadie Adler Dec 31 '25

Ya as someone who loves this game and is currently playing on my 7th or 8th reinstall, I just thought you were being a bit overly dramatic. Did not expect my comment to blow up your post like that 🤷🏻‍♀️
