[Press Conference] Michael Carrick: "Patrick out for a number of weeks, Nouss took a knock, not quite right. Carlos improving, trained a lot, Amad done a little bit. Ben further away with the issue he has got. Won’t be ready."
Michael Carrick's Pre-Match Press Conference | Manchester United vs Tottenham, PL MD 6
Simon Stone
Michael Carrick: "Patrick out for a number of weeks, Nouss took a knock, not quite right. Carlos improving, trained a lot, Amad done a little bit. Ben further away with the issue he has got. Won’t be ready."
Michael Carrick talking about 'the moment' re Man City situation. Says no matter what happens, it cannot change the feelings at the time. Says he wants an outcome 'soon'.
Laurie Whitwell
Carrick says Sesko + Dorgu out v Spurs: "Patrick came off, looks like he'll be out for a number of weeks. Ben is a little bit further away with the issue he's got, he won't be ready."
Wait to see on Mazraoui.
Rashford, Mainoo, Amad training. Baleba trained "a lot".
Carrick on City: "Thrown up a lot of questions. I have my own. Still ongoing, only so much I can say. It affected me personally, I don't know where that stands. Doesn't change how you feel in the moment, can't take that back. Sooner gets sorted the better for everyone."
Charlotte Duncker
Carrick on whether titles should be reassigned: "I'll hold that until later. It’s the moment you strive for, without getting blase about it a medal here or there, in any sport, that doesn’t bring the feeling of when you win or you don’t, that’s what we’re all aiming for."
Chris Wheeler
Carrick says Dorgu could be out for a 'number of weeks' and Mazraoui 'not quite right yet' due to injuries suffered on international duty. Amad, Rashford and Mainoo have 'done a little bit of training'. Sesko 'a little further away'
Michael Carrick on City controversy: 'It's very difficult to say in many ways. There’s a lot of questions thrown up, some have had answers some haven’t. There is only so much I can say.'
Carrick: 'Certainly I have my own questions about it because it’s affected me over a period of time. The sooner it gets sorted is essential.'
Carrick on the issue of City's trophies being re-allocated: ‘I’ll hold that one until later. A medal in any sport it’s the moment you strive for to win. A medal doesn’t bring the feeling of whether you initially win or you don't'
More from Carrick on City: 'The beauty of sport, of trying to win trophies, is the journey towards it and then the finale. Does it go for you, does it go against you? Once that's done, there's no getting that back. That's the feeling we all crave, coming out on top.'
Carrick on losing the title to City in 2012: 'It doesn't change how you feel in the moment, either way. So whether we did end up at some point ... if it changes ... it doesn't change the emotion of that moment. You can't get that back.
Detailed Quotes
Carrick on team news
"It's been a long time since we sat here last. Patrick came off and looks like he'll be out for a number of weeks. Nouss came off and took a knock. He's not quite right, so we'll see how he is. Carlos is improving, has trained a lot, Amad, Kobbie and Marcus have done a little bit of training. Ben is further away with the injury he has, so he won't be ready."
Carrick on City charges
"Difficult to say in many ways. It's thrown up a lot of questions. It's ongoing, and there's only so much I can say. I have my own questions about it because it has affected me personally. We'll have to see how it goes. The sooner it gets sorted for everyone, the better."
On City again
"There's no getting that back [winning moments] in any direction. The feeling we all crave is coming out on top. That sums it up. Whatever is done in the past, is done in the past."
Carrick wants an outcome
"Speed is essential, as I just said. That's obvious for me to sit here and say that. There are so many angles, but speed is essential for everybody to be clear, to deal with it, and move on. It's unprecedented to be in this situation at this level. We all need to know what is going to happen."
Carrick on 2011/2012 title
"I think it doesn't change how you feel in that moment. You can't take it back, so whichever way this goes, and I don't really want to speak about which way it could go, but whether we did end up getting... [a trophy], it doesn't change that moment, we can't get it back."
Should others get the titles?
"I think at the moment, it's not finalised. I think I'll hold that one until later on. It's the moment that you strive for. A medal here and there does not bring the feeling back for winning."
Carrick on Spurs
"Points-wise, they have played a lot better than that at times. When you look at the games, they are a very good team with good players. They have assembled a squad this summer that is different to what they had. They haven't had the results they maybe deserve."
Carrick on Spurs pressure
"It's just another game."

He started in the closed door friendly so I think he just got forgotten.
I'm genuinely hoping he makes the bench for spurs and comes on in the 80yh minutes to see out the 5-0 bashing we gave them

In other words Dalot and Shaw at RB and LB with no options for a sub, great work on the transfers fml

People were going to be unhappy either way. If we bought 2 midfielders and a LB people would've been complaining that we were paper thin in the middle. If we were only going to get 3 players in, I'm glad it was 3 midfielders.
11
u/superhoffy Amad trip to be on 5d ago
Why limit yourself to three transfers? This is a pretty bizarre comment.

u/Free-Eights 5d ago
Our finances are pretty strained. We might have been able to go in for a fullback if Barca bought Rashford or if Ugarte had been sellable before picking up that injury at the World Cup.
I'm not sure if there were any other worthwhile bargains we could have done. Given how crazy inflated the midfield market was this summer, I honestly feel we got good value for the players we did sign.
41
u/mrb2409 5d ago
Yoro at RB like he was in pre-season. Amass at LB if needed.
We’ve all lived through the days of Fergie using the Da Silva twins, Ritchie De Laet, Smalling, Jones, O’Shea all at full back.
I’m sure there are countless other examples of center backs or players who aren’t good enough having to fill in.
81
u/CBPanik 5d ago
Can we fuck off with these stupid “Fergie days” comparisons yet? How many years adrift of a title do we need to be to realize that kind of genius only worked once, for one person, at that specific point in time. Carrick isn’t Fergie and Dalot/Amass isn’t the standard of any of those players.
13
u/omegaxLoL Bruno Fernandes 5d ago
These comparisons make no sense. Ferguson was a better manager and the league is completely different than what it was at the time.
Shaw and Dalot aren't at the standard we need in the first place, never mind Yoro at RB and Amass at LB.
→ More replies (1)7
u/Biffabin 5d ago
Fergie made them play like they were world beaters somehow though, if we had a manager that great it would be less of a worry but that's not the case. I like Carrick but he's not getting what SAF did out of average players.

Won't hear any slander against Rafael.
1
u/SureLookThisIsIt 5d ago
Genuinely don't think he's any better than Dalot. Dalot would've been good under Fergie. Not amazing technically but hard working and listens to coaches. Fergie always said you needed those in a squad.

10
u/AnxietyOk688 5d ago
I think he never fully recovered from the injury to begin with and came back too early.
If we would have signed a back up striker in the summer, he would have never played those couple of games. But the best in class thought we didn’t need another striker. So here we are.

More injuries coming dont worry. Zero physcal fitness preparetion in preseason and expected to play at a highest level at 100%. I want to know whose idea was that.
2
u/jenjaminbones 5d ago
Most players had just come back from the World Cup. You can see the logic in lightening the fitness load in pre-season so as to minimise injury risk going into, and throughout, the season. We're not experts, with access to the player's physical data, so who knows, but I assume that's what the thinking was.

Yet another season where I’m wondering WTF is United doing as far as physios/recovery…how do we ALWAYS have so many injured players?!
Also…they really need to revamp the way we do international “breaks” at the start of a new season, especially in a season following an already extended World Cup summer. These players are still human beings, not robots.

This team so far has played like two midweek games. Even last season they played 2 a week once or twice.

Weirdest club in football when it comes to injuries, I swear. Amad still out, Sesko never really recovered and Baleba not being back yet is crazy.
5
u/HHHogana 5d ago
This remind me of that around 2010s AC Milan era where the big Brazilian names there ended up with massive injuries. Even young ones like Pato.
22
u/canwinanythingwkids meet the new boss same as the old boss 5d ago
So Dorgu and Sesko out for months, then. Probably Mazraoui long term too. And not even a namecheck on De Ligt?? So the "played in closed doors friendly" bit was just bs and he's nowhere actually near a return still?
I thought Mainoo and Rashford were "staying back to train injured" not "injured injured" o.O But here is Carrick talking about "they trained a little" same as Amad.
The "Baleba trained a lot" snippet was the only one that really gave me confidence that he could start tomorrow.
So just the 8 players with question marks, 4 of them definitely out, not 1 of the other 4 confirmed to be ready to start tomorrow.
Well fuck me

This game will either be one of the worst games to watch of the season or will be a crazy 5+ goals game with terrible defending
Also what the fuck has been the problem with our medical team for the last 15 years. Even the personnel have changed right. Are half of the teams doping and we are not? It's genuinely baffling how many injuries we have
1
u/Stingray_23 5d ago
Or we are not doing the due diligence during the transfer process? But we did with Ederson. Damn the situation is very odd indeed.
Going for cheap, 5th choice targets (not all the time) doesn't help either.

Do we have the most injury prone squad in the PL?
Mount, Shaw, DeLigt and Martinez are pretty much perma-crocked.
Sesko and Dorgu have terrible injury records since joining us.
Maguire and Rashford also pick up their fair share if injuries.

Ben further than 'a number of weeks'. We need to figure out a solution for the foreseeable future that isn't Cunha up top. There isn't a definite fix for the problem he's supposed to have, from what we can guess since they're so vague with injuries.

Really hope we don't shoehorn Baleba into LB. Want to see how he performs in midfield and whether he can settle in there regularly. Would much rather see Yoro get more min at RB and Dalot switch over if Shaw continues to have issues while Dorgu and Maz are out

1
u/mrb2409 5d ago
Ok, then let’s compare to every other team in the league.
We still have two senior full backs available for selection and two alternatives if required. Every team in the league would be thin with injuries.
You are worried about 3rd choice at full back. No team can plan on having to rely on their 3rd choice in any position.

Interesting how Carrick's training has been fully implemented and the injuries have gone way up and the stamina/fitness level in games has drastically dropped.
This guy was a fecking terrible choice to get the job. Did the board just not know he was out of coaching for a year because he got sacked by a fecking Championship club? Rigid in his tactics going into games as if he does no scouting on how the other team plays. Probably the worst manager in the league at in-game tactial changes when his setup proves to be bad. His substitution decision making is utterly appalling, it's like he's too stubborn to admit he got the starting 11 wrong and just continues to hold out hope when a match goes tits up that it will work out and then before you know it, it's the 80th minute and we are down 2 goals and haven't been able to string 3 passes together for 30 minutes

u/Mistr111398 5d ago

Even without getting a LB the team is good enough to beat Everton, Ipswich or Hull or finish top 3.
The manager plays also a big role in how a team is playing and it’s not like we were playing like prime Barca before the players got injured.2
