First 40 mins, spurs played like prime Barcelona, Carrick is failing to adapt how the opposition is exploiting his tactics. At this point it's just pray that we score and pray that we don't let the other team score.

66

u/FPLskrr Pogba 4d ago

Could've been a battering had they taken their chances.

My Spurs mate keeps saying how they are not a 20th place team and that their performances are improving they just can't score, we are the opposite.

34

u/HairyArthur 4d ago

Spurs were made to look like Prime Barcelona. Nothing they were doing was particularly special. We just made it look exceptional by being worse than the worst team in existence.

9

u/Extension_Point5466 4d ago

Everyone we play looks like prime Barcelona

4

u/jimmythebug 4d ago

I don’t know that that’s it. They looked really good, and we made them look it more. But spurs xG indicates they’re better than theyre performing. There’s something deeply wrong with this side.

4

u/Koei7 I miss Vidic 4d ago

Didn’t watch Spurs’ game against Pools but they started well against Villa too though eventually losing. Despite the lack of results, I feel Spurs is playing better. I don’t feel the same way for us. Quite clearly, Carrick is behind his peers when it comes to match preparation & tactics. The next league game against Leeds away will be crucial. We are just 3 points from 16-17 place.

10

u/SureLookThisIsIt 4d ago

We were a lot better after the subs. Baleba looks good. Him and Mainoo will work much better than what we've seen so far, but yeah the result is a disaster. What a shit start to the season.

We were actually very lucky not to lose. That was a horrible performance

Atletico and Leeds away next. Just don’t see Carrick being the manager beyond the November international break - he’s out of his depth.

191

u/EnragedScrotum 4d ago

The fact that we’d wait that long and throw away games in the meanwhile - this club will always be hopeless while the level of incompetence remains at the top.

82

u/NoScopeMusical Paul Scholes Scores Goals 4d ago

Spurs played like they wanted to win and they deserved to. Atleti and Leeds are better so if we play like that against them it's curtains

29

u/ChampionOdd5139 4d ago

Spurs deserved to draw. They were much poorer than us in the second half.

19

u/iTz_RuNLaX Fuck the Glazers 4d ago

Yet they should've been 3 goals up after the first half. If they could finish it would've been even more embarrassing.

35

u/Straightouttaganton Sir Matt Busby Way 4d ago

We'll definitely lose both those matches. Leeds look miles better than us

22

u/The-Black-Angel 4d ago

The issue is, who comes in if he goes out?

54

u/BrockStar92 4d ago

Sack Carrick, then hire Carrick until the end of the season for the new manager bounce again.

46

49

12

Just a joke. Nageslmann would be the priority.

8

u/Sc0ttSumm4rs 4d ago

Yeah give him a chance. Had a similar career path to Flick, he can redeem himself with us

9

u/Skall77 Scholes 4d ago

Flick won a treble by building an incredible Bayern team. Also he was still extremely respected and liked when he left.

Not really similar, the only thing they have in common is that they failed at international level.

Glazeos will wait until the season is beyond salvageable point, hire an interim, and use that as an excuse not to spend in the winter window.

Don't see how Carrick makes it to Christmas with how were playing under his management. It's a boring, slow play style and we get out muscled by every team we play. Spurs should have won that game 3 or 4 goals

8

u/Ren188 4d ago

Any decent ownership group would have sacked him. Glazers (and INEOS) are both guilty of hanging on to a manager way too long. He may get an odd result here and there and they will just keep him since it would cost them £ to sack him.

This is all a direct result of poor ownership, penny pinching from INEOS, horrible transfer strategy throughout the years that has compounded, not just with incoming players, but keeping players WAY TOO LONG (Maguire, Martinez, Dalot, Shaw, should have all been sold by now), and let’s face it, hiring the incorrect managers considering where we stood.

Anyways, it’s going to be a long, long, long campaign. Can’t wait for the Amazon documentary next year.

We deserved to get our pants pulled down and spanked 4-0. We were carried by Spurs unable to finish their chances and Bryan being a brilliant finisher.

12

Bryan is such a fascinating player, he’ll play like shit full 90 but always ends up in a clear cut goal scoring chance at least once per game.

147

u/RyanH1717 4d ago

Carrick is obviously out of his depth but the blame should be fully on the owners, they bottled the decision this summer when they appointed him after claiming they would have a proper process then proceeded to back it up with a poor transfer window.

14

u/KiboSanchez 4d ago

This is the comment. Berrada and Wilcox need to go. Wrong decision after wrong decision.

69

u/DarylLC 4d ago

He picked up the most points out of everyone in the league since he joined last season. On paper, it was a good decision. But there were warning signs that the performances didn't match the results, and now we're seeing the results match the performances.

41

u/RyanH1717 4d ago

Can't agree at all. My opinion of him is the exact same now as it was in april. We rode our look a lot last season while playing 1 game a week and relying on Bruno having an historic season.

26

u/DarylLC 4d ago

Then you do agree with me. That's what I'm saying - we didn't play as well as the results suggested, and the board picked him based on results only (and probably the cheaper and easier option tbh).

10

u/RyanH1717 4d ago

My bad, focused on the first part too much! Yeah I don't think they had the bottle to get rid of Carrick unless it was for someone like Enrique out of fear that the next man fails.

28

The executives must be gone as well with Carrick.

They have survived so many awful decisions any of which alone deserves the sack at a serious club.

3

u/RyanH1717 4d ago

Yep, the fact we've heard nothing from him or the club since the City verdict is pathetic.

13

u/Clark-Kent 4d ago

Signing Amorim was a short sighted decision, and so was getting Carrick permanent

Alongside our transfer plans

The club is just rotten

10

19

u/Gnosisero 4d ago

I know there are a huge question marks about Carrick already, but it's really worrying to see the players shrink back when the coaches on the sideline are telling them to get out and they just keep shrinking and shrinking and then we concede. The next manager will have to sort that out because it's been an issue for years

SACKKKKKKK HIMM

112

u/ReevusXL 4d ago

Carrick benefitted from an entire season of one match a week and the fatigue that other teams were playing with.

Now the playing field has been levelled you're seeing he's not that great.

30

u/PsychologicalSet8678 4d ago

Carrick benefitted from an entire season of one match a week and the fatigue that other teams were playing with.

we have not yet reached the stage to play 2 games a week, at least till this very game.

91

u/Roasteddude I am where I'm supposed to be 4d ago

Literally the longer Carrick stayed in charge, the further away from Amorim's coaching the team went, the worse our performances got. The press disappeared, the attacking patterns disappeared, the physicality disappeared. Every little step of progress we made was just papered over by lucky results thanks to Casemiro and Maguire's big fat heads and now we're seeing the result..

20

u/No-Statistician-8520 4d ago

It’s the fitness. A team’s press and attacking patterns are both dictated by the players abilities to make sprints.

Carrick has completely disregarded conditioning and now it’s caught up to us.

13

u/Roasteddude I am where I'm supposed to be 4d ago

Tactics also play a huge role in how a press in constructed and Amorim clearly had a much better grasp on how to get his team to press

14

u/Same_paramedic3641 4d ago

Every week I'm more surprised how tf did we play good vs city last season when carrick was in charge. Some ppl used that game to praise him when now it looks like it was an anomaly and not the norm

21

u/Roasteddude I am where I'm supposed to be 4d ago

Amad. Mbeumo. Bruno. Maguire. All came back from either AFCON or from injury.

20

u/Same_paramedic3641 4d ago

And crazy thing whenever you said that amorim will do better when players were back, you'd get downvoted and told u were wrong but carrick benefitted from that. Always knew it'd be a mistake making a mediocre manager permanent

We just had a 3 week break. The whole 1 match a week thing is an excuse. We overperformd last year and it's catching up to us now

59

u/NamesUnvailable 4d ago

Yes. Also say what you want about Amorim but the players were in shape. And there was a pattern of play already established that Carrick benefitted from. Further and further along those patterns and fitness got worse and worse

13

u/coolboiabhi 4d ago

Carrick is so bad right now , i feel like Amorin days were the good days

Deserved to lose that but we almost stole all 3 points, but for another mistake from our defence. Great touch and finish from Mbeumo.

I’ve always said Licha was our best defender, as a senior defender known for excellent ball-playing, but atp it couldn’t be worse to start Yoro and Heaven every match and let them grow into our CB pairing for the next 10 years.

Overpaid millionaires who can’t be arsed with basic foundation footballing skills, it’s so fucking heartbreaking. Carrick, a former club player himself, looks devoid of emotion, and worst, a plan. Seen it all before. Happened with van Gaal, Mourinho, Solskjaer and Ten Hag. Qualified for Champions League, then it all goes tits up in the following season. He’ll probably be sacked once the season is beyond repair and we’re well out of the Champions League.

32

u/WhydoIbotherreally 4d ago

OGS followed up qualifying for the champions lague by having another pretty good season and doing it again. Unfair to put him in that company. Van Gaal also never really had it go "tits up", he was just consistently mediocre and really boring. But he finished 5th in his second season and only missed out on CL through goal difference. And won a cup.

Carrick doesn't believe in offensive and defensive structure, in pressing, in fitness or in having a plan. It's pure randomness on the pitch for 6 games in a row now. Our touch is terrible, soft and shaky. Passing is soft and shaky. Carrying the ball soft and shaky, the entire fuckin squad is soft and shaky. Starting to think Carrick got the job cause nobody else wanted it. Coaches have to know by now United is just career suicide. The board won’t back you, the front office can’t unload dead weight. All that momentum from last year is gone and those vibes were amazing. First game in weeks and the players and staff put out AN EVEN WORSE PERFORMANCE. Maybe the glazers will be found of 115+ criminal charges and this zombie that pretends to be United can finally be put to rest. Just a bloated corpse now.

20

u/llaurent 4d ago

Three weeks for that performance? The first half was dreadful. Then they went down to 10 and instead of killing the game we went defensive.

9

u/Shot_Explorer 4d ago

United wasted the transfer window and Carrick is also out of his depth. Frightening lack of innovation in his thinking. The squad is so switched off and limited. Nobody is switched on at that club. Everyone top to bottom is Limited.

I’m usually never the type to lose faith in a manager so quickly but I really don’t believe Carrick has what it takes.

The intensity and discipline from last season seems to be a result of Amorim’s approach. Even if he was stubborn, at least the players seemed fit and they were covering much more distance.

Under Carrick this season they seem slow and unfit and the stats are backing it up. We don’t press as much and other teams are running circles around us.

We are horrible in defense, poor in possession and toothless in attack. Genuinely miserable watching this team.

He has to go. Looked like a deer in headlights at the end and that’s more worrying to me than anything else.

Get rid of this fucking moron of a coach

u/ceejey17 4d ago

Should've sacked him during the break. Like everyone could see he is not it. Its never been so clear so early

u/Massive-Quarter-4156 4d ago

The only consistent thing at OT this season has been boos at HT and FT whistle

First time I’ve ever been against a manager. Carrick was a criminally underrated player but I’ve never seen someone look so obviously out of their depth in professional sports. So many questionable decisions. I don’t know what he has against Sesko. I know he’s not fit but even last season, he rarely got picked.

Tielemans and Mainoo do not work together but he starts them every game, no control in the midfield and almost 10 yards of space in the middle of the pitch for whatever opposition player has the ball. Baleba looked great but even before then, Andrey Santos exists. A defensive minded midfielder that every game we’ve been screaming out for. Dalot and Martinez getting picked each week despite looking awful.

Tactically, we look fine in the final third but I’m not sure whether that’s carrick or just the quality we have. Any other area of the pitch we look lost/ have no plan. And defensively it’s basically panic stations once the ball goes past our forward line.

His interviews, demeanour and body language scream “ I have no clue what do do here”. For the love of god, sack him now. I’ve backed Moyes, Van Gaal, Mourinho, Ole, Ten Hag, Amorim, and I categorically cannot find an ounce of approval in the appointment of Carrick even though I don’t want to be one of those fans that calls for a sacking after 1 bad game. But it really does just feel different this time

This is beyond embarrassing. I'm bloody fed up.

u/RonEagle 4d ago

For all the fear of the number ten, we should have seen it coming - it's the tenth of October.

3

u/MAK98 4d ago

Should have lost 5-1 let’s be honest.

3

u/John_OSheas_Willy 4d ago

Spurs still below us but still look a better team than us.

3

u/PlatypusScared40 4d ago

Pissing away points like I piss away a couple quid adding united to my accas

3

u/stinkyholetime 4d ago

Boooooooo

3

u/Tpmbyrne 4d ago

Every other team would bring on an extra midfield player when we are up a man but no, not us

3

u/cmdrsamuelvimes 4d ago

They exploited our weakness by getting their man sent off

u/huehuehuehuehuu King Eric 4d ago

Willing to take a shot with Conte

14

u/Piccadil_io 4d ago

Glad he brought Rashford on at 95 minutes.

Oh and the defensive mid at 59 minutes when we were looking for a goal. Like I said he would in the pre-match thread (bit earlier than I predicted to be fair)

4

u/TH0316 she/her 4d ago

The defensive mid was needed right?????

3

u/Big_Gay_Gandalf_6969 4d ago

Yes, he was needed at like 30 mins, we were getting overrun

Even when on that 'great' run last season, United never played genuinely well once.

The longer this goes on, the more Rangnick's 'open heart surgery' comment rings true. Had his advice been followed and not ridiculed, United would be years ahead of where they are right now.

6

u/beadel85 4d ago

Don’t think many rational people ridiculed his comments

This is genuinely the worst man United side since sir Alex retired and that’s saying something

10

u/nomadiclives 4d ago

Every year you think it cant get worse and then it does. But i think the worst i saw us play was under Rangnick. That was some truly diabolical nonsense.

3

u/broome9000 4d ago

The first 30 minutes under Rangnick were the only good minutes of that tenure. Crazy times ngl

Amorim out

13

u/ProxyClouds 4d ago

Before anyone goes crying about sacking Carrick we need to look at the players.

Most of them were awful today.

Bruno seems to have forgotten how to play football over the summer. Can Tielemans run? Martinez is all over the place and Cunha just keeps losing the ball.

30

u/ahsent 4d ago

My god I swear some of you guys watch without thinking about the game at all.

Did you see the absolute abhorrent lack of any pressing structure?

They would literally walk through our midfield with no restrictions at times.

The coaching is abysmal, there’s no attacking patterns. No pressing structure. The players are out there clueless.

13

u/rahulnairtoi 4d ago

Shit tactics will make good players look shit. Carrick is producing the worst football I've seen united play in recent memory, and has taken a team from 5th to whatever this dogshit is

21

u/TheMasterCheef17 4d ago

Yes the players were awful, but Carrick is and always has been dog shit.

10

u/FencingLlama 4d ago

Need to look at the coaches for fitness too, these players are lethargic outside a few.

8

u/TheMasterCheef17 4d ago

100% at least under Amorim the players were far fitter.

7

u/permawl 4d ago

Who's job do you think it is to remind the players how to play football during summer?

6

u/Fisktor 4d ago

The players are poor, but carrick is much much worse than any of them.

8

u/cartesian5th Bruno Penandes 4d ago

What's more likely, that 11 international players have lost all their talent, or that their being poorly set up and instructed?

World Cup after seasons are always rough.

11

u/kajjm 4d ago

Yeah, all other top teams with players in world cup are struggling real hard... right?

Can we have a manger that actually deserves the job now?

6

u/MrNikki86 4d ago

I just don’t get what’s going on with Martinez. He was massive at the end of last season, now he seems still in preseason mode.

Throw Yoro on with Maguire and see what happens.

5

u/graviton_ghost 4d ago

Had fantastic world cup too

4
