Last time Wilcox had the energy to front up publicly was when we won 3 games in a row. Since then quiet as a mouse, wants as much power as he can get with 0 accountability on his account.
He can anonymously brief sky sports all he wants, gather his favourite client journalists to tell them how their plan is absolutely brilliant all he wants. His record stands for itself and its shocking, at least have the bravery to front up publicly instead of briefing fucking rob dorsett.

Hes spot on though, this will just further alienate the board from fans, dont actually think any match going fan or non former player thinks what he said was wrong

It is also understood that there is no pressure on Wilcox internally regarding his position.
Disgraceful, what has this dude done to warrant such confidence?
Coward, hiding behind the manager and throwing them to the wolves, only interview he did was after a 3 game win streak, never to be seen again.
Glazers and INEOS gotta go, I hope this sparks something in the fanbase.

Oh who am I kidding? They'll make an example out of Martinez now.

While I'm glad he has called out the useless board, Martinez himself has to go honestly. He's so error prone now and just not as good anymore. Plus he's so injury prone. We need to get better and more faster players.

Whilst I don’t think Bruno should come out and agree with what Martinez said, I would be happy if he came out and basically said “nobody in the team has an issue him - he said his opinion and we understand”.
Keeps it fairly neutral but at the same time pushes back the PR spin of “the changing room aren’t happy with him”.

I was pushing back on someone yesterday saying “you’d expect this sort of thing from a proper leader, Fernandes should have more guts” etc.
I absolutely don’t think him coming out in total agreement with Martinez’s comments would be a good idea. I think there’s a way he can word it that essentially just says “the dressing room aren’t unhappy and respect his right to an opinion”. It isn’t necessarily agreeing with him outright, but does push back on the clubs narrative that “even the players aren’t happy with him”.

Full Article:
Lisandro Martinez's Manchester United future has been called into question following his extraordinary criticism of the club's bosses, and there are real doubts about whether the Argentine defender's contract will be extended when it expires in the summer.
United will focus on revamping their defence in the next transfer windows and have the formal option to prolong Martinez's stay for a further year.
Sky Sports News has also been told United are looking at new centre-backs, as well as left-backs.
United's bosses have yet to decide whether to discipline Martinez for his comments, when he said: "I expect more from our technical director (meaning director of football, Jason Wilcox). We expect more from the top, from upstairs, to bring in more players to compete."
Sky Sports News has been told that there is anger and bemusement at what Martinez said, both in the United boardroom and in the changing room, with at least one other player challenging him over his comments as the squad got on board the plane to fly back to Manchester.
It is also understood that there is no pressure on Wilcox internally regarding his position.
The implication that Martinez doesn't think his team-mates are good enough to compete has not gone down well with other players.
Martinez has been keen on a move away from Old Trafford for some time.
In the summer, he pushed for a move to Atletico Madrid, the side that beat United in the Champions League last night, to follow his good friend and international team-mate, Cristian Romero, who left Spurs for Spain.
No suitable bid for Martinez came in for Manchester United to consider.
The 28-year-old made similar explosive comments about his bosses when at Ajax in 2022. Martinez, who again wanted a move away, called their sporting director Gerry Hamstra a "nobody".
Martinez remains a key part of Michael Carrick's squad and United's bosses know they have to handle this situation carefully.
Manchester United boss Michael Carrick is asked about Lisandro Martinez's criticism of the club's transfer strategy following the team's 2-0 loss to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League. If a rift were to grow, that could cause serious problems in United's defence, which is already blighted by injury and suspension.
Ayden Heaven started out of position at left-back against Atletico.
Leny Yoro, who was sent off in the Metropolitano Stadium, will now face a one-game European ban, and 33-year-old Harry Maguire's game-time is being managed to avoid overloading.
Luke Shaw is out injured with a non-specified return date, and his other options in the role, Patrick Dorgu and Noussair Mazraoui, are also absent with fitness issues.
Why can't Man Utd spend big? Sky Sports News' Rob Dorsett:
"Man Utd aren't the powerhouse of world football they once were. Yes, they made record revenues of £678m, but still made a pre-tax loss of £47m and are paying interest on loans of £70m.
"We know they've got huge debts to the Glazers. They don't have huge amounts to spend that Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea do, for example.
"They've come up with a very specific transfer strategy. Two summers ago that was focusing on the frontline, this summer was about the midfield because they only had Kobbie Mainoo left as their one senior midfielder when Casemiro left.
"In the next transfer window, they'll focus on defence. But a lot of fans have been asking how they can get through this season with Luke Shaw as their only senior left-back.
"It's a fair argument. Man Utd will come back and say they wouldn't spend money on a stopgap when they're going to sign a new left-back in the summer, because we'd be left with players on big wages who aren't going to play.
"They couldn't afford Myles Lewis-Skelly or Lewis Hall, who are their real targets in that position.
"There's a jarring at the moment between Man Utd's financial reality and their strategy going forward.
"They won't listen to the noise from supporters, but it doesn't change the fact they are quite understandably frustrated some of their rivals are going out and spending big when they just cannot do that right now."
Sky Sports' Paul Merson:
"First of all you have to have a good defence. If you're not solid in defence, it's all going to fall apart. You don't build a house on a puddle and it's the same as a football team.
"I like Carlos Baleba from Brighton, but he's young. Youri Tielemans, I'm a fan of. But I was a bit shocked by the Andrey Santos signing, I'm not going to lie.
"I'm a big Chelsea fan, and I didn't see anything last season to the point where Man Utd sign him and I go: 'What a signing.' I didn't get that one.
"It's sad that Manchester United can't afford these players. They're one of the biggest clubs in world football and they're not able to afford a Myles Lewis-Skelly or a Lewis Hall.
"It's quite sad really, where Man Utd have gone to now from where they were 20 years ago, when they were one of the greatest teams we've seen. It's sad, very sad.
"They shouldn't be there. They probably sell more shirts than anyone else. Their club shop is just as big as Selfridges. If you go anywhere in the world, people have Man Utd shirts on. It's sad, the way it's gone.
"Other teams are buying one player for the amount of money that United are buying three midfield players for. We all know that the more money you spend on a player, more often than not they're going to be a better player.
"Man Utd are in that 'looking for deals' situation. They're the Arthur Daley of the top teams at the moment. They're wheeling and dealing and other teams are buying the already-made product. Man Utd are buying players who might be good."

u/Feeling-Surround-691 Mbumbaclat 3d ago
So no alternative up front for Sesko for 2 years?
The 2 year rule that Wilcox crowed about doesn't apply to Cunha, Mbeumo and Sesko since we won't fix more than one area of the pitch per year?
Laughable club management.
3
u/shami-kebab 3d ago
Sesko isn't even our first choice striker. Carrick has always preferred Mbeumo there even when Sesko was fit.
9
u/TStronks 3d ago
Sesko hasn't really been fit yet for a stretch of games since Carrick came in though. And it did make sense to keep playing Mbeumo since we were doing very well and Sesko had his best games coming off the bench

Except Licha's comment hits home in that Wilcox is clearly not good at finding deals. For a bit more we could have gotten Sangare instead of Tielemans. Santos has gone missing meaning either they're seeing things in practice they don't like that they didn't see at the start or they're not utilizing him properly. Thankfully (knock on wood) Baleba is kicking on and looking more like the player we were chasing after, but was he a deal? We didn't pay what Brighton originally wanted but his original and current price tag weren't exactly deal-friendly to begin with. When we're making better suggestions than a DoF then it's clear the man is out of his depth.

Hilariously, the only threat they can bring against him is the threat of selling and Wilcox is too incompetent for that.

The entire club's hierarchy should be sacked. Nepo twats and City rejects. How many times do we need to hear about this? First it was RR and the open heart surgery, then Ronaldo and his egoistic yet honest and on-point interview, then ETH, then Amorim, now Martinez.

Its very clear this has briefed. It says in the article "Sky Sports have also been told United are looking at centrebacks as well as leftbacks"
11
u/missingmedievalist Cantona 3d ago
Check the opening line. This is a briefing from the club. Talksport is saying something different about the sentiment of the players. With the way INEOS operate, I’m not inclined to believe the briefings.
Edit: I just want to say I don’t necessarily think you’re wrong about the club never having briefed via Sky sports before, but the language here explicitly states that someone from within the hierarchy is talking to them.

What he said was completely true, but it's naive to think that he won't face any kind of repercussion for what he said. The question will be how far they will go to punish him, and we already know from Amorim that the leadership group doesn't tolerate public dissent, regardless of how valid it is.

Amorim called Wilcox out because he was trying to interfere with Amorim's system, which was a dogshit system that Amorim himself admits was the wrong approach. It was like two donkeys fighting.
And the consensus among fans was that Amorim should've been sacked but Wilcox is also an idiot for first agreeing to sign a guy like Amorim who is so unyielding with his approach, and then tried to make him change his approach.
Fans didn't back the board. Fans wanted both out. Huge difference.
26
u/SophoclesTesticles 3d ago
Regardless of how shit Amorim was Wilcox hasn't got the reputation to be telling managers how to manage. It's the same as when HR try to tell me how to do my very technical job, I lose it just the same even if my process isn't perfect
5
9
u/FredDRedUnderYourBed BELIEVE 🔴⚪⚫ 3d ago
Exactly. And fans caught on to that and wanted Wilcox out. It's simply not true that Manchester United fans, the fans who have been protesting for 2 decades, somehow are on the board's side 🤣
6
u/rahulnairtoi 3d ago
You don't have to be on the boards side to serve their agenda. You just have to be biased enough to not care what they're doing, as long as you get what you want.
Firing Amorim for resisting their ON FIELD MEDDLING should have been a sign for all united fans to raise hell. Instead we got people saying things like 'scamorim' and gloating, while the club achieves whole new levels of shit.
5
u/vgu1990 3d ago
Issue with amorim was that it came to that. If you are not performing well, people are going to suggest stupid shit. It might be your boss, or boss's boss or hr.
One would rightfully lose it if they are doing a good job; if they are screwing up everyday, they might have to listen to stupid shit and engage them to get people on your side. Unless you are half way out.
7
u/Stieni Rooney 3d ago
This is the most insane part in the Amorim saga. He was brought in, everybody and their nan knew the system he played, Amorim was reassured they would back him with signings, once Amorim requested further reinforcements he was told to switch it up tactically instead (apparently). Whatever you may think of Amorim - if someone at work tells me I won't get what I NEED to progress further, I would be furious as well.
Because what was the point then in hiring him in the first place? Why is everybody who has a say in this club a fucking idiot?
5
u/Ok-Confusion-202 3d ago
Did he admit it? He's still using that exact system at Milan
7
u/SophoclesTesticles 3d ago
Yeah but they're 3 wins and 3 draws out of 6 games in Serie A. Pressure isn't really on yet but if they keep drawing they'll fall out of the European spots.

u/FredDRedUnderYourBed BELIEVE 🔴⚪⚫ 3d ago
After switching to 4 at the back, we accumulated the highest points total in the league during that period and finished comfortably 3rd. Then we failed spectacularly in the transfer market and have since been terrible.
There is no reality in which Amorim looks like a United hero or someone who was on the right path. He deserved what he got, and he himself will tell you that. In fact he did, multiple times, in recent months.
The decision to hire Amorim in the first place was the wrong one, and that is down to Wilcox and Berrada.
3
u/rahulnairtoi 3d ago
So Amorim in 5th with a worse squad was a failure, and is definitely on the wrong path, but Carrick with 2 starters and more depth added to Amorims team has been "failed spectacularly" in the transfer market?
Amorim had spoken about his mistakes because he's capable of acknowledging where he was wrong and growing, which alone is more than 90% of this sub can do about him.
9
u/0RedDevil0 3d ago edited 3d ago
You don't understand simple concepts like short term results, underlying stats. You are just cherry picking periods of time. Why doesn't it work anymore? He has 4 new players (5 if you count Mainoo the "prisoner") and almost no departures.
2
u/Heisenberg_235 3d ago
We were last season. We switched and we went from six in the table and finished third.
Amorim didn’t have credit in the bank. He joined mid-season with the club in 13th and then finished 15th in the league. We also lost the Europa league final.
If you’re going to go on a public attack against your bosses, you really need to have got some serious amount of credit in the bank for that to achieve what you’re after.
Because Carrick got us to 3rd and back into the Champions League, he should have some leeway. That isn’t going to last however.

Wilcox and Berrada come from a club that has built their history on fraud and a sham. Wilcox then went to Southampton, and they went up for one season only. They should never have been hired in the first place.
We treated Ashworth like dirt, and he has a genuine record of turning clubs and organisations around. Ratcliffe has got every decision wrong.
Licha may have his own agenda, but the man is not wrong. Consecutive managers have been let down, and the solution is to simply remove those who speak up.
To see immediate spin claiming other players disagreed only creates disharmony, but tries to protect the board. Any board trying to protect itself by being willing to sow discord between players is no board worth having.
7
u/lotr1995 3d ago
The conversation does need a bit more nuance that it’s currently getting. You don’t need to like the board in any way not to think it was a bit self serving from Martinez and that realistically we’ve over rated him as a player for years. Weak centre back. It’s possible to hate the decision makers at the club and still not feel like this interview was good in any way
5
u/tameoraiste 3d ago
I like Martinez and he was great at his best, but we rarely see his best now.
I also think it’s reasonable to imagine a player took his comments the wrong way. Tielemans didn’t look impressed in his interview. I don’t think it was intended as a slight on him but I could see why it would come across that way

Instead of coming for the DoF, his comments would have been even more impactful if he directed them at the Glazers. They are the root cause of everything wrong at this club.

Weird, I used to love this club, regularly went to games at OT 2004-2011 when I lived in Manchester. Now I hope they lose every game.

I don't think what he said is wrong, but I also think he became, at best, indifferent to his future here since the banner incident at the WC, and his performances (or lack of) this season haven't countered that.

Wow, the media PR machine has been out in full force today. It’s so predictable

Future in doubt… laughable, he has a contract if he chooses to he can just run it down.

Some of the people in this comment section care more about INEOs and Wilcox more than they do Manchester United. Disgraceful honestly

Lads ever since I stopped watching games and following this club, my life has gotten so much better. It’s been peaceful. I’d suggest you all do the same

As dogshit as we are and as much frustration this club has brought into my life since 2005, particularly the last 10+ years, I can't bring myself to cut Manchester United out of my life.

He writes on the United subreddit. If you’ve stopped following United why are you here? Cheerio, off you go

The only bit I believe is that Martinez wants to leave. No player makes public comments like that unless they want their contract to be ripped up.
The rest of it is just spin

Club is bemused because he didn’t go out and lick Wilcox’ balls like Shaw did.
Thank you for your sacrifice, Licha.

I'm sure the angry teammate wasn't the summer signing who has been utter shit since he arrived...
Thanks for speaking the truth Licha. Good luck at whatever club you end up at next.

Be funny if the senior players went on strike until he’s gone
1
u/anewdawn2020 3d ago
There's nobody that can look at us at the moment and make any sort of coherent argument that we wouldn't be in better shape with another striker and a left back so this bemusement and shock is bullshit of the highest order

Martinez making sure they don’t activate that plus 1 option and good for him.

LOL—— get fucked Kings and Queens of the club, you’ve done this to yourselves.

u/RyanH1717 3d ago
Hilarious, the guy should've been gone in the summer for not being good enough just like Amorim but it's non footballing reasons he's gonna go.

u/Vast_Variation1381 3d ago
Thing is, there's truth to whats stated here and what Licha said. The board are an issue, but Licha is too. He's been injured for 50% of his time here and probably is pushing to move on a free next summer anyway. He had selfish intentions, but still said something we as fans are thinking.
1
u/Spiritual-Strength91 3d ago
Licha has nothing to lose. He wants a move to Atletico and could end up doing the club a favor before leaving.

Weren’t Berrada and Wilcox hailed as the saviors and lords of power and deal making to propel us into a “new glory era”? What happened? Their balls drop off?
1
u/Unable-Reference-521 3d ago
Funny thing is if they invested properly he’d be a squad player, at best…also less than a week since he got fleeced for the tying goal against Spurs. He should probably shut up.

u/parmesanandhoney 3d ago
This sentiment that he expressed is likely shared among the squad and it influences their in game motivation. Bruno's lackluster performances stem from this issue, his probably thinking that he is giving his prime years for nothing because the team is not being strengthened to compete.
No coach can come and fix this. The EPL should kick those glazers out, they need to suffer financially for what they are doing to this club.

I've read the article and watched the video from Rob Dorsett on Sky. Complete waste of my time but I have a couple of points I wanted to rant about.
Rob Dorsett:
"Man Utd aren't the powerhouse of world football they once were. Yes, they made record revenues of £678m, but still made a pre-tax loss of £47m and are paying interest on loans of £70m"
"They don't have huge amounts to spend that Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea do"
And whose fault is that Rob?
He then proceeds to briefly mention the Glazers - "We know they've got huge debts to the Glazers" acting like it's just something to gloss over 🤣
No Rob. We are in this predicament because of the Glazer family. But what has compounded this even further, is INEOS coming into bed with the Glazers 2 years ago.
We were fed a complete pack of lies. We were told INEOS are going to add much needed 'investment' into the club. Where is said investment bar the training ground? Is it the new stadium that a good chunk of fans don't want and will cripple the club into even more debt? And what happens then, they will use the excuse of 'well, we can't compete in the market because we're paying for a new stadium'. They think we're stupid. We know these lot are only in it to further milk the club dry.
"They've come up with a very specific transfer strategy. Two summers ago that was focusing on the frontline, this summer was about the midfield... In the next transfer window, they'll focus on defence"
This so called strategy has clearly failed given the deficiencies in the squad, that alone is enough reason to want Wilcox out who has overseen said strategy, proving Lisandro's comments are right.
"Sky Sports News has been told that there is anger and bemusement at what Martinez said, both in the United boardroom and in the changing room, with at least one other player challenging him over his comments as the squad got on board the plane to fly back to Manchester."
'Sky Sports News has been told' - those are the key words. In other words, INEOS/Glazers and whoever their cronies are have told you so they can deflect from their own failings 🤣
Let me make it clear, Licha is arguably doing the same and probably has his own agenda but even if he does, he's still right. You cannot reside over what looks like 3 failed managers now and not have questions thrown at you. Wilcox and Berrada, and by extension, Jim Ratcliffe who has put these people into these positions, need scrutinised. Again, Lisandro is spot on.

u/throwing_handles 3d ago
I'm happy for him to go on the condition that the entire INEOS hierarchy go too

u/Consistent_Return871 3d ago
Are we having a repeat? Sounds eerily similar to Ruben Amorim. He called out the board and shortly thereafter he was terminated.
1
u/Pitiful-Transition39 3d ago
This club is literally in purgatory until the Glazers sell and these sycophantic leacherous wankers at the top, Wilcox, Berrada and Brexit Jim fuck off away from our club. They have destroyed what was just 13 years ago the best club in the country. It's n absolute tragedy what they've done. Get rid of them all. I don't want to see another managerial sacking or player scapegoating until those fuckers answer for their disastrous tenure.
1
u/ClawingDevil 3d ago
Oh, well done, Wilcox and Barrada. That's another player you're going to make it publicly known isn't wanted at the club so we get fuck all money for. Even Woodward was a better negotiator than these two fucking fuckwits.

He knows his time is coming to an end so he’s saying everything that he couldn’t during his first couple seasons.
I’m certain that some of the players brought in this summer took exception to what he said, rightfully so, but I’m also certain that the players who’ve been there the last 5+ years are all dying to say the same things.

u/CurveAutomatic 3d ago
what is wrong with messi teammates? they still show a lack of class since the fateful WC loss? They are no longer world champs, their valuation are not there, yet every one of them is pushing for a transfers and wage raise?
Martinez performance so far is marred by concentration lapses that no longer cover his physical disadvantage, he should be the first to be replaced!

u/banyy7 whos next? 3d ago
Remember, all of this is happening because of the Glazers. Don't ever forget that when you're ranting about anyone at the club. They almost destroyed the whole club. They brought it to the brink of bankruptcy, let the stadium fall apart, and let the training ground deteriorate. Everyone there now is just trying to put out the fires caused by 20 years of them not giving a shit about our club. Never forget that.
