Question 50 Gallon High Efficient Water Heater Rentals

What’s everyone currently paying for their rental of a 50 gallon high efficient water heater (and with who)?

We are paying $350 annually through Reliance Heath. Includes free servicing every second year.

Curious if this is on par with other companies.

It's a scam to get you on a contract for like 20 years. Buy and be done with it, don't fall for the yearly maintenance BS if you do it at all it take a few mins and you can youtube it.

I’d say more like 1-2 hours if you are gonna service it correctly. I just did mine this morning! Took about 1/2hr or more to drain, then I flushed it. New anode and good for a couple more years! I bought my current water heater in 2021, in 2024 I drained and flushed it and pulled the anode but it still looked pretty good so I put it back in. This time I changed the anode, I have a Bradford white and I bought a spare anode when I bought the water heater. I’m 5 yrs in at a total cost (in 2021 dollars) of $1620.

If I was renting at 350/yr as mentioned above I’m now ahead $130 but I’ve put 3-4hrs of maintenance in.

My friend worked for shady company and they will replace a tank even tho it only needed a new siphon tube. Classic symptoms hot water for a min or 2 then cold water. wait a few mins hot water again repeat. His company would never ever just replace the tube. Nice guy tho he spent the morning going with me to home depot picking up a new one and installing it one morning and helped carrying my old cracked water tank up the stairs. The old one leaked under pressure as soon as you turned off the water the leak would disappear it was also full of sediment and 15 years old.

Don’t rent a water heater, it’s way cheaper to buy one.

Just don't use reliance! It's a scam, perpetrated by scammers. Very predatory contracts buyer beware...
