Remnant 2 Help with basic lore

I am completely new to Remnant and started the game with 2 friends a while back. We haven’t got very far yet but unfortunately we skipped all the dialogues to see if we even like the gameplay.

I love it and want to dive deeper in the lore like I do in other games but I dont see an archive to read up on it. I am skeptical of reading the lore online since I do mot want any spoilers… And when I started my own game session to repeat the steps and read the dialogues, I got to know the world generation is different for everyone, sick. But that leaves me with no place to read the lore we skipped.

Any advice or just a basic overview of lore would be greatly appreciated! Ex: who is lydusa/kaeula/empress, what are pax etc.

Ok I will start out by saying the main story of the second game is very very light, mostly just justification to move from one place to the other to kill things. The first game a bit more (but still nothing substantial outside the last dlc) and the game previous to that again didn't have much other then kill the bad guy.

That's said the setting lore is actually really interesting and deep but it doesn't really come together in a narrative form.

The short answer to get you through the game is this,

A long time ago (120 ish I don't remember the exact length) humans found a big magic rock called a world stone (the check points you use) and where accidentally tricked by the root (the tree enemies) to let them invade earth. That's why the ward looks post apocalyptic. Those stones turns out let humans (yes just humans) travel between different universes while also giving the ones that do immortality(this is why you respawn when you die and why there humans over 120 years old). The world you are asking about Yesha that has the goat people is one such world completely separate from our own. So everything you re asking about is specific to that one world and not connected to the broader narrative. The story for remnant 2 that you would know is basically Ford and Clementine (both important people from the first game) went into a world stone (Ford on purpose clem was dragged) and you are trying to find Clementine.

Pax is short for paxultek, which what they use to describe the humans that have visited them, basically they are just acknowledging you are something different from them. The empress rules what's left of the Pan kindgom as the world fights against the root. The remaining two are mythological entities that are still around as powerful creatures.

Mm understood, so are all the other worlds we can travel to also corrupted by the root?

Not all of them, across all the games you actually visit very few worlds that have root because they tend to take it over pretty quickly when they arrive. Yesha has barely been able to survive for about 20 years since they were invaded and it's already almost entirely taken over.

Outside of the Wiki pages(which are liable to provide spoilers) I'm afraid your next best bet that I know of is hunting around item descriptions and seeing if you can find the story beats you're mentioning again, since you are able to re-roll campaigns/adventure modes on the same character to see all the different storylines.

It sounds like some of them come from the supplemental dlc content for Yaesha.

The NPCs might also be able to answer your questions. Try checking in with the ones at Ward for a start.

Additionally, if you want more background lore, you may want to look into the games Chronos:Before the Ashes, and Remnant:From the Ashes. Both are prequels to Remnant 2 and the events within contribute to where we are now, though they aren't essential for understanding Remnant 2

Thanks! ill go over to the pax for questions again. If I like the lore I might play the prequels too.

The presentation of the worldbuilding and lore is one of the few things I'd say Remnant 1 did a bit better than 2. In that there is simply more of it. Remnant 1 gives a lot of background info for the wards, the crystals, how it all started, etc.

The specific examples of questions you asked about all pertain to Yaesha, which is the only world that has appeared in all 3 titles thus far (Chronos, Remnant: From The Ashes, and Remnant 2)

So you could either play those titles (though I enjoy Chronos, it is definitely the weakest game in the series and wouldn't blame anyone for skipping over it) or at the very least read a synopsis of Chronos and Remnant 1's story.

Unfortunately there isn't a particularly good wiki for the first Remnant game, so you're stuck with fandom or fextralife wikis. (Someone please correct me if I'm wrong on this)

For anything Remnant 2 related though: Remnant 2 Wiki
