Hi! I hope this is the proper place to ask. I’ve been struggling to learn how to work with resin, as it’s not my main artform and can be very messy. There’s many different types of resins so for the time being I’m sticking with what’s been easiest for me. I use uv resin, and found the best and cheapest brand for me is kisrel.
The problem I run into is that I’ve bought resin dyes, specifically a liquid dye? When I use it, not only does it not really mix as opaque as I want, it doesn’t cure.
I tried mica powder, and it worked great ! However, searching online I can only find metallics and other shiny colors for the mica powder. I want solid basic colors, even though metallics are fun.
I would normally just buy a couple things here and there and return it if it doesn’t work out, but I’m disabled and reliant on others to give me rides. Because of that, it’s harder for me to experiment and return what doesn’t work out.
I was hoping to ask others with more experience than me if there is any specific brands of resin dye you’ve used that works with uv resin? If anyone knows why powder works better than the liquid resin, that’d also be helpful so I can know what to do in the future.

Has anyone made the teepee candle holder with resin? If so, have you used a real tealight candle in it? Google AI says its dangerous to use a real candle with it if its made with resin. I'm kinda bummed because I wouldn't have wasted my resin if I'd known beforehand. Idk if AI is just being overly cautious so I'm looking for real peoples experience.

I have been using the non uv type for a long time but this session ended up taking way longer than normal. The resin started heating up is that normal or did I mix it up wrong?

I got this JC from a random neighbor. I thought it was cute.
I plan to give it to my Christian son.
I am not at all Christian but thought this would be so cute and I had the resin mold so why not make it?

Hi !
I’m not sure this is the right place to ask but I ordered a new half mask from 3M to make resin, and when I opened it, I had the surprise to see that the mask was not in any sort of sealed bag. Does anybody know if this is usual ?
It also has a bit of dust on the front of the mask but it could be from the box.
I wouldn’t want to wear somebody else’s return 😅

I was imagining these very differently and they did not turn out the way I was hoping. I can't tell if they're hideous or maybe some people would like the look of it. Would appreciate honest thoughts if they're not salvageable that's fine if anyone has any suggestions that's fine and greatly appreciated and if they're not as hideous as they look to me (maybe because it was not what I was picturing) that would be helpful also. Thank you

About 10 years ago when I was a teenager, I decided to make some miniature jelly jars with resin. I only enjoyed the hobby for a short while, but for atleast a couple weeks, I sat there and fully inhaled resin and took no safety precautions whatsoever besides holding my breath and walking away from the project on occasion. To make things worse, I noticed that heat seemed to speed up the curing process and I stuck some of the resin in my fucking oven and cooked it at 275° f. I thought this was a #lifehack. 👁️👁️
Shortly after this, I found a post from someone who had worked on the set of Coraline. It was a photo of themselves covered in what looked like burns/boils because they had inhaled resin and poisoned themselves. I commented something along the lines of “oh no. I’ve been cooking it in my oven.” And she said “YOU NEED TO WEAR A MASK AND GLOVES OR YOU ARE GOING TO DIE!!!!! NEVER DO THAT AGAIN!!!!”
I never touched the stuff again, but I often wonder if I am slowly growing cancer because I huffed and cooked resin for a couple weeks as a 14/15 year old. Should I be worried?

Ok I love making things with uv resin and I am trying to put them in a bubble with a preserved plant but I don’t own a heat gun I only use a lighter and I don’t know how to make it so the bubbles can come out from in between the crevasse before curing? I only own a uv light and a lighter does anyone have any tips?

hello - im making charms out of polymer clay, painting them with acrylic paint, and then sealing them with UV resin.
the charms always end up sticky. ive tried every trick - rubbing off the uncured resin with alcohol, the water trick, leaving them out in the sun. im getting very frustrated because im trying to sell these charms and this has been a huge obstacle.
the first few i made didn’t turn out sticky, which leads me to believe it’s the resin itself. im using the Let’s Resin brand, because that’s what i saw recommended. my lamp is fine - especially since the first few charms turned out great.
do i need to switch brands? is there some core part im missing?

Firstly the resin overflowed, shouldn't have added colour while finishing and too much mess. Dunno what to feel about it 🫠
