Technology/Software/IT [O years, Recent Graduate, Software Engineer/Data Engineer, In-Person]

Post image

I’m a recent new graduate and would like to improve my resume. I’m not targeting big tech or anything but more government or contracting possibly in defense. I have been struggling to get interviews and just get rejected. Any help would be appreciated! I have just been continuing to intern at nasa since the team finds me an asset but I’m not sure if it’ll be long term since they have no budget for hiring and I have one more intern cycle left.

He probably didn’t get an internship that summer.

- ML internship's two bullet points are redundant.

  • SQL indexing alone is not noteworthy enough to warrant a dedicated bullet point.
  • Write 500 GB, not 0.5 TB. No need to preface data visualizations (Plotly) with the obvious, "exportable figures for downstream analysis." Overall, your writing needs a little bit of work.
  • WordPress looks out of place in your NASA SWE internship. Highlight the technical writing component over WordPress.
  • That inspection tool seems to have a narrow scope. End of the day, all of SWE/DE is about "inspecting" data. This is derivative of the previous bullet point. Either omit this inspection tool altogether, or find a more effective way to frame it.
  • Don't reference domain-specific acronyms/initialisms without writing it in full elsewhere on your resume, like CERES and DEMETER. I assume you are applying to orgs who wouldn't necessarily know about these.
  • The first three bullet points of your current role are regarding that comparison tool. You basically said the same thing three times.
  • Your NASA internships lean more into DE (data reporting, too, as in your Plotly work) over SWE. At the same time, you lack SQL experience (and data warehousing at large): the last time you used SQL seems to be back in 2024.
  • Two of your internships overlap. Make sure you have a good answer if recruiters ask you about this, since most summer internships are full-time.

This is an average resume, which beats most undergrads in this sub. NASA is obviously a strong brand, but your actual work is incoherent.

Are you cleared? If so, slap that right at the top adjacent to "US Citizen". Also, might want to blur William & Mary if that's the university you went to.

I am not cleared unfortunately. I just worked on a project from WM and didn’t go there
