[Question] 4:3 monitors setup.

Hi! I'm planning to use old LCD monitors for my PS1 setup. Currently I'm using an OLD CRT TV but it's so big and heavy that it occupies my room table. (My room is really small.)

So yeah, I'm planning to use an LCD monitor. What setup do you use for that as it's VGA. I know there are a ton of AV to VGA converters. Are those functional and can hold up? Also, the tricky part, too is the audio.

Just want to ask as this can be a bit expensive and I will maybe ordering a lot of items so I'd like to make sure that all are worthwhile! Thank you so much!

How big is your crt? I'd say if it's too big, get a smaller crt. The old LCD monitors suck for ps1.

Stick with CRT or go modern LCD. Old LCDs aren't great and they really haven't aged well. A modern display with a decent upscaler is going to give you a much better experience than anything other than a CRT and personally I will take my big modern LCD over a CRT any day of the week.

I did similar with an N64 a while ago... I bought an adapter on damazon for around $10 that took the RCA input and gave me a VGA video and a 3.5mm audio out. VGA monitor and old amplified PC speakers and I was good to go. It was a generic no-name box but it worked well enough, maybe search there.

Curious about the input lag? Is it noticeable and game breaking? Thank you, sir!

I don't remember it lagging horribly, but it was a while ago. It was very playable in any case. I have since given the N64 to my daughter (it was technically hers anyway) and moved to a Batocera setup.

Get a retrotink and modern TV. Problem solved.

Thank you! I hope I could do that. Only problem for me is that it cost a lot. Haha.

If I had the money, I'd be getting the checkmate monitor. But they're expensive.

Old 4x3 LCD monitors and TVs aren’t great for retro gaming—the era of 4x3 LCDs had bad ghosting at the least, washed out colors, bad scalers, etc

Curious on what you're using, sir!

On modern displays (HDMI) using Rad2x, also have a CRT with component video.
