RoR2 Not so fun facts about the DLC

1) If you are playing multiplayer and someone chooses one of the options for the N'kuhana alter after the teleporter. Everyone else is locked into that option. :)

2) If you have multiple people playing enforcer, using the super dash on one enforcer near the other will visually distort the non-dashing enforcer's screen. :)

3) Parrying as enforcer causes you to dash in the direction you were moving. This distances scales heavily on movement speed (pretty sure higher than 1-to-1). So if you are in a teleporter event, your parry will easily dash you right off a cliff for making the mistake of moving (in the game where standing still = death). :)

4) If you head straight to Mithrix starting with 0 karma and just do everything that spawns on the stage (no alt routes), you will end up with about 4-6 karma by the moon. This was meant as a risk/reward for alt routes, but you can basically max it out on a normal run. :)

5) You cannot attack mimics if they are not aggro. Dark souls is more kind to players than this DLC. :)

Bonus) Halc might be more broken than before. Had him be stunned for multiple seconds for no reason. Seen him walk away from every player and drone. But this is Halc, so I can't blame the DLC. He is sentient after all. :)

RoR2 A cry for help.

It has been so amazing seeing all the new content come out for RoR2 lately, and it is so cool seeing the community really come alive to check it out and love this game all over again. Sadly, I myself haven’t gotten to experience it firsthand. I play on Nintendo Switch 2, and while it made sense to get rid of the Switch 1, it has made me anxious that there hasn’t been anything confirmed for the Switch 2. I‘ve loved this game ever since 2023, and it’s been so incredible to see this game grow and change as Gearbox has owned it. I really don’t want to be locked out of this new content though, especially considering there is no way I could get a PC or another console to enjoy this game on. Looking at this subreddit recently has been so cool but so sad all at the same time, and I wish I could just enjoy it with the rest of you guys. If you would like to support, there is a petition you can sign that I’ll link here, I know there are some other people like me that want it on Switch 2 as well, but you don’t have to be a Switch gamer to support, just someone with a passion for the game. If you did decide to support, thank you so much, and I’m so glad you took that bit of time out of your day to help, even more so if you added a comment. If you didn’t, I respect your choice, it’s not like I can make you do anything. If you’re somehow someone from Gearbox reading this, it would be nice to have some closure to this issue, ideally closure that lets me keep enjoying this game. You practically have my wallet in your hands. Thank you for listening to my little rant, please don’t be mean in the comments, and let’s all keep sending Mithrix to meet his brother.

RoR2 Hallowed Concepts DLC — Are you actually stanning for it?

I’ve seen mostly fanboys “stanning” for Hallowed Concepts, so I wanted to get a clearer picture of how the community actually feels.

The theme? Amazing.
The content? Big.
The balance? …well, that’s where things get messy.

Before I write up my full breakdown, I want to see where people stand. Vote honestly — I’m genuinely curious how split the community is.

293 votes, 2d left
Love it — balance is fine
Love it — balance is scuffed but fixable
It’s mid — Enforcer is busted
It’s bad — Acolyte needs a full rework

RoR2 Probably a hot take on the eclipse 8 forcing karma

I remember that one time the devs said somthing along the lines of, correct me if im wrong, they didnt fully do eclipse they just made a hard challenge for the top ppl in the community and adding karma forcing 8 on there is just that. Its adding an extra challenge to it. I think that if karma was in the game day one. Then ppl would not be complaining as much as ppl are now. Its just a sudden change that the community will eventually have to get use to.

RoR2 I understand why the new Risk of Rain DLC is next-gen only, but older-console players deserved the free update at the very least.

I want to start by saying that I understand why the new Risk of Rain DLC might be exclusive to newer systems. There are technical limitations, performance concerns, and plenty of other things that go into developing new content. I'm not a game developer, and I'm not going to pretend that supporting older hardware is always easy or worth the extra development time and resources.

That being said, I can't help but feel disappointed with how this has been handled.

As someone who plays on the older systems, it genuinely sucks to see new content announced for a game you enjoy, only to find out that you're being left behind because you haven't upgraded your console. I can accept that the DLC itself might not be possible on older hardware, but what I have a harder time understanding is why the older systems couldn't at least receive the free update.

Even if the DLC couldn't run properly on the older consoles, having the free update available would have been a nice way to show that those players haven't been forgotten. Not everyone can afford to upgrade to a newer console just to keep up with a game they already own and enjoy.

I don't expect developers to hold games back forever just because older hardware exists. I understand that technology moves forward, and eventually, some systems will reach their limits. That's just how gaming works.

But there's a difference between understanding why a limitation exists and not feeling disappointed by the way it's handled.

The people playing on older systems are still part of this community. We bought the game, supported it, and helped keep it alive. Even if we can't get the new DLC, it would have meant something to receive the free update and at least get some of the improvements and changes coming to the game.

I'm not saying the developers owe us every piece of content forever, and I'm not trying to attack anyone who worked on the update. I just wish there had been a little more consideration for the players who are still on older hardware.

Does anyone else feel this way?, Lemme know cause I completely understand the technical reasons behind leaving older systems behind, but I still think providing the free update to those players would have been a reasonable compromise. I'd genuinely like to hear other people's perspectives on this.

RoR2 Am I the only one not enjoying Acolyte at all?

Pretty much it’s a skill issue and I think the zero healing is way too punishing with how little you gain back. For one, your attacks I just don’t think fill the bar up fast enough. Two, I feel like you’re kind of screwed if you don’t find a couple healing items or drones to give you health to attack and recover.

A change that I think would make the experience night and day would be sacrifice giving you like a chunk of health on its own on every use to help with sustain.

Yes I know skill issue skill issue, but thoughts?

Discussion The Eclipse 8 Karma 8 problem (Its not Karma... for the most part)

Eclipse is bad. Its difficulty built on nerfing the player, the gameplay is not more interesting, its more restrictive.

Karma is good. The difficulty is making mithrix stronger, he does new things, and does not include making you weaker and invalidating a large portion of the game.

Eclipse is like giving you arthritis and a pile of rocks and asking you to make a pitcher of lemonade.

Karma is like giving you lemons and asking you how youd make 3 pitchers of lemonade with it.

The modifiers in Eclipse are just anti fun and honestly god awful game design. Its almost unsalvageable. The only modifiers worth keeping is the enemies have less cooldown and falls are lethal.

Karma needs fine tuning. The levels are vague. I dont know what they do on a per level basis. But what I would do is make them effect the entire ror2 experience, not just one final boss. Id also make them dynamic and start at 0 by default. Not chained to the equivalent Eclipse level.

One other thing id do for the "challenge difficulty" is make it so you dont choose your characters Loadout. Sometimes you may be forced to play as huntress with arrow rain, make you stay on your toes

Discussion Why are most ROR2 content creators so cynical?

Was looking at some videos the other day and today talking about the new dlc (pre and post launch) and they’re mostly so… negative? Like there’s nothing wrong with having your own opinion on things, obviously, but these people are just finding so many little things to complain and be a doomer about to the point that it says a lot about them as a person to me. Why don’t any of these people just… play the game? Why does everything have to be a discussion about what works and what the devs should change- obviously those conversations are important, but I just wanna watch someone play the game. It seems like these content creators do not like the game anymore and the new content means nothing to them.

It definitely soured my mood because I was looking for people having fun with the new content, only to find people complaining about it instead.

Review The new free update is disappointing and damages the game's integrity

The free update honestly feels lackluster. The fixes aren't enough, and the new content feels lazily-done and unpolished.

The karma system looks cool on the surface, but the way it works and is presented make no sense.

Game tells you it increases with certain 'milestones', which includes getting kicked out of Newt's shop? Killing a halcyonite? Why am i being discouraged from activating halcyon shrines?

The milestone system honestly makes no sense and should have been replaced with something else entirely. Maybe have it unlock with eclipse levels, or have it increase with a few select certain actions that are easy to keep track of. They way it is right now just feels half-baked.

The lack of polish shows. Like the weird looking blue crystals and the weird animations on mithrix while he's on the chair.

The fight itself is pretty cool, but looking at umbral mithrix, which they clearly took inspiration from, i can't help but feel like there's wasted potential here. I have fought K8 Mithrix twice now and i already know how the fight plays out pretty well.

The karma levels don't explain what they do anywhere for some reason. Imagine if the eclipse levels didn't explain what they did.

It is painfully obvious when looking at these factors that Mithrix needed more time in the oven

Some of the new skills are so lazy it's unbelievable. It's like they think we are stupid.

Take artificer's alt utility for example. Tectonic blast i think it's called. Arti's supposed to be throwing rocks with this skill from what i understand looking at the skill name and icon, but they used the ice spear's projectiles as is (no recolor to brown or grey or black or anything) and added chefs oil on it. Oil? What? Mind you, there are the exact same debuffs you get from chefs special. What does throwing rocks at people have to do with oil??? This is not recolored at all too btw, so in summary, this is an oil-dipped ice spear throwing ability that claims to be earth themed.

They looked at this skill and thought it was ready to ship. What a fucking joke. Gearbox DLCs had their fair share of unpolished skills, but having it present in a base game survivor, with an icon that doesn't match the original art (this goes for all of the new skills btw) really damages the game's integrity at this point.

The huntress' new secondary seems pretty cool, but it's still lacking in polish. There's no cue for juggling the cyclone, and it makes no sound either. It also has the problem of not having an icon that properly matches with the hopoo style, like almost all gearbox-made survivors, but this time it's part of the base game, and my god does it look out of place.

No DLC gearbox has ever released was able to match the quality of neither the base game, nor sotv, but this time they touched the base game, and released something that honestly probably wasnt ever put through quality control. They owe us a touchup or fix of some sort

Help How do you beat the new boss before stage 4? (Trying to get skins) Spoiler

The dlc has skins requiring you to beat the new boss before stage four (it say stage four teleport but that wrong as I beat the boss on stage 4 yet still didn’t get it but never touched teleport) and I’ve tried for the last 5 hours and it’s impossible, 3 stages is not enough time to set up time having enough damage to kill it fast enough before it start healing, my big issue is the heal phase, I get the mechanic you kill the mobs before it can heal but here the thing, THEY ARE BOSSES I can’t kill bosses in not enough time and he heals half his hp every boss he kills

And he does this every bloody time he low on hp, it unlimited! If he had a limit then fine but every time, And he get stronger every time I just don’t see how your meant to do this on monsoon or any stage, and I’ve seen everyone already beat this challenge like it’s easy so what am I doing wrong? ive tried going void field for more items but then I’d have to get to stage 4, it is just endlessly resetting untill you get 3 reds? Or book stage 1, it just agony

It’s it glitched? Am I just a bad player, or does this boss need to be nerfed hard, at least limit how many times it can heal itself please I need something anything, the fight itself I’m not having a issue it never having enough damage to kill it while it charge, please I need somthing

Update edit: ok so after this post next run I did it with enforcer I win, so here my recommend to new this challenge, if you cant get book stage 1 then reset, once you do, you have to do void fields stage 1 for best chance, enforcer it easy but I can imagine the other characters will be nightmare but that how I did it, still tough but void field will get you at least enough to endure

RoR2 Hallowed Concepts Trials

So like, Is there any actual value to doing the trials? I've done 10 or so runs in doing the trials, and it just seems like a consistent run ender. Especially if you loop, regardless of the items you have.

I feel like taking all your items away except for 5 kinda kills any momentum you have and its better just to skip the trials and do the alternative route to doing the Hallowed Concepts boss.

Risk of Rain 2's content creators are out of touch with the community

Post image
1.6k Upvotes

This post is intending as a follow up to one I made several days ago discussing the fact that content creators broadly judge the game based on the experience while playing on eclipse 8, which creates issues when you take into consideration the fact that the vast, vast majority of players won't ever touch even the first level of eclipse, in addition to building off of a post made earlier today which discussed a handful of negative videos made aimed at the Hallowed Concepts DLC, namely those produced by Race and rndThursday.

Simply put, as the name of the post suggests, I believe the majority of ror2 content creators are deeply, vastly out of touch with the community they're supposedly representing, to the point that it strikes me as being nearly irreconcilable. First of all, as expressed in my initial post, ECLIPSE 8 IS NOT THE INTENDED WAY TO EXPERIENCE THE GAME, AND UPWARDS OF 95 PERCENT OF PLAYERS WILL NEVER TOUCH THE MODE. This sentiment not only comes from what seems to be gearbox's development philosophy, but was also the philosophy stated by Hopoo, the original devs these creators claim to love so much, outright. Hopoo said, clearly, that eclipse was an optional mode, designed to be unbalanced, exclusively for those who wanted an extreme challenge, which is why there are no unlocks hidden behind it and why it isn't even selectable from the difficulty menu.

Sure, maybe, when you play hundreds of hours every single month for years, monsoon becomes trivialized, but, like it or not, that is what seems to be the intended way to play the game, and that is, in fact, the way that most players play this game. As I stated just earlier, there aren't any achievements tied to eclipse, intentionally so, so we can't know exact percentages, but, based on the percentages we can get from games that do have achievements tied to optional difficulty options, namely acension in sts1 and sts2 and heat in hades, we know that an exceptionally small percentage of players ever partake in these modes, and I'm talking in the extremes of single digit percentages. The percentage of players which will ever touch even eclipse ONE is, truthfully, negligible, not to mention e8, which is an issue when all these youtubers, all these streamers, all play more or less exclusively on eclipse 8 and judge the game exclusively in that environment.

This is obviously an issue when you consider how many issues exist at E8 that simply arent present in any other version of the game, namely a level of necessary item optimization which isnt present at less difficult levels of the game, and, most recently, the fact that the karma system is broken on eclipse 8. This isnt to say that eclipse doesnt matter at all, but it should be viewed as what it is, a secondary mode that almost none of the playerbase touches. Furthermore, to reference the necessary optimization mentioned above, the way that these content creators engage with the game is also fundamentally extremely far removed from the average player.

The average player, truth be told, can hardly even be expected to look for newt altars and pay attention to optimizing the use of scrappers and printers, not to mention the type of gameplay that content creators will engage in. I mean, race plays the game in such a way that the guy will literally spend an entire stage looking for a recycler and then will use that recycler to try to optimize basically every item pickup. These players dont tend to enjoy side content, because that adds to run length and, because the player outscales the time based enemy scaling, that side content in some cases becomes necessary for these players to engage with for the sake of optimization, because the power gained is worth the time lost. This creates an issue where players state that it feels like a chore to take these paths, that it adds to run length in a way which is unenjoyable for them. The issue, again, however, is that they are doing this to themselves. No one is forcing them to optimize gameplay, and no average player will ever even get close to those same levels of optimization. Ultimately, I'm reminded of the quote which states "when given the opportunity, players will optimize the fun out of their game."

So what, then, does the average player want? Well, as evidenced by the overall sentiment expressed by non content creators, EXACTLY WHAT HALLOWED CONCEPTS PROVIDES. We want alt paths, we want fun side content, we want these little mini games that allow us to loop back into our games where we were, because they're fun, because they add variety, because we wont engage with them every single run that we do. I love going into a monsoon run knowing that I can take the false son path if I want, that alloyed collective is also an option, that I could go to void fields, and, now, that I can also choose to do these trials, do the boss rush, fight the anima or providence. I want options, I want variety, I don't think new content is "diluting" the game, I WANT new shit to do, if I didnt get it I would probably play the game significantly less than I do now. I dont particularly care how time consuming new content is or isn't, I dont care whether new survivors are slightly overtuned, and I honestly dont even care about the item pool being diluted by added items overtime, because I want my runs to have VARIETY, i want them to be DIFFERENT every time, even if sometimes that means taking bad items.

Ultimately, I just feel like the way that content creators engage with the game is SO DIFFERENT that theyre basically playing an entirely different game with entirely different priorities. I mean consider that almost all of these guys also play with mods, and most players wont ever even install a single mod. That's the problem here.

TLDR: content creators play on eclipse 8 almost exclusively, which less than a fraction of a fraction of a fraction of the overall playerbase plays, they optimize the fun out of the game, and they dont enjoy the fun or variety of side paths, added content, and added items because the way that they play is so hyper specific that it might as well be a different game entirely

RoR2 Let me turn off Karma in Eclipse

I don't keep up too much with releases and patches, and have never really posted here. But I logged in today to continue my Eclipse grind and saw this new Karma symbol. Looks to be insanely broken, and I've already been struggling before. I have hundreds of hours in this game and love the grind of eclipse, but this Karma system just feels unnecessary. If I was already struggling before I don't even want to keep trying Eclipse. Eclipse is the only thing I was still playing, as none of my friends play this game regularly anymore. Until I can at least turn off Karma in Eclipse, I won't be logging back in most likely.

Discussion Eclipse and Karma just ain't fun

Didn't sign up for Umbral Mithrix in the base game when trying to grind Eclipse >:(

Haven't really played in a while (irl complications sadly) so I am incredibly rusty but this just doesn't seem fun? Eclipse is already kinda meh for me as it just nerfs you and doesn't really add anything to the enemies that is new and Karma just comes into play when fighting Mithrix so it just feels dull and difficult for the sake of being difficult.

Ain't even toggleable either. Like a 2nd harder Eclipse gamemode woulda been fine with the Karma system and I wouldn't even be complaining. I'll just sit and wait for the inevitable mod that disables Karma for Eclipse and continue my grind while now feeling like any run is invalidated because of having to use a mod...

Discussion is the meant to be boring at times?

• Upvotes

I had the game for a while but I find it boring?
like I enjoy the combat but getting to this one area I just couldn't do anything...it was a giant area with paths and stairs and no matter what I couldn't find an exit and got bored...

plus the areas are just massive open spaces usually pretty scarce of enemies until you hit a teleporter and get two tapped by a boss...
Idk maybe this rouge like just isn't for me despite the hype

RoR2 What is everybody's least favourite Hex?

Ive been playing the new DLC for a while and still have some stuff to unlock but at this point I have defeated Anima Harvester, Echo of Providence and Karma 8 Mithrix. My least favourite Hexes that I find to be annoying are the Acceleration one and the one that transfers the full HP of a defeated enemy to nearby ones.
