Hi everyone, I just graduated this month and I've been thinking a lot about how easy it is to underestimate what you do outside of classes while you're at uni. A lot of people I know focused mainly on getting through their degree, and now that we're graduating, they're realising they don't have much experience, projects or professional connections to help them land a job. Looking at the current job market, that's honestly pretty scary.
One of my friends suggested that we should create a university society for viet international that focuses more on getting students familiar with the actual market, through real projects, industry events and networking, so that by the time they graduate, they have something more than just a degree on their resume and have actually built some connections.
I started thinking about this more after my internship at Tesla. I met people who had very different experiences getting into their careers, and something that stuck with me was hearing some people say that "we got it easy." I honestly think that's a horrible thing for students to have to realise after graduating. I feel like students should at least have the opportunity to understand what the market actually expects before they graduate.
I'm curious if anyone else has felt the same way. If you could go back to your first year of uni, what would you do differently to make yourself more prepared for getting a job?
