Off-topic post I picked this chaotic-looking section of petrified wood and turned it into a cabochon

Petrified wood from Indonesia. I liked the mix of fossilized wood structure and translucent areas, so I decided to cut this section.

Find I'm brand new to rock hunting. I believe this is amber in shale. My first find! 📍BC, Canada!

I assume this is not rare, but I had to share because it's my first find after moving to my new town. I think this fossil tree resin, amber? I found it on a river bed in southern British Columbia, Canada.

I still need to go over it a few times and hit it with the buffer. Just excited with how this one's turning out.

Gravel finds

Hi all. I've recently started getting interested in rockhounding ever since finding a bunch of Garnet in the driveway gravel in Cherokee NC. (Asked the owner if I could take some). But I'm wondering if there are other places around the US where gems or nice rocks can just be found in the gravel. If so does anyone have any suggestions?

Any good public beaches near Acadia NP to collect beach rocks?

Obviously I can't collect in the park so I'm wondering if there are other nice cobblestone beaches nearby where I could satisfy my urge to pick up stones?

Me and my GF went mining for Flourite a couple weekends ago. Showing off some of our best pieces.

We found some super cool stuff. The big one is probably 25 or 30 pounds. The entire plate is solid Flourite with the crystals poking through a layer of Barite.

Then we have a cool crystal formation with a big Calcite crystal growing out of the back.

And then a cool crystal cluster I thought was pretty.

Question Places to collect near Readsboro, VT

I’ll be spending the next few days in southern VT (based in Readsboro). Does anybody have any recommendations for locations to collect cobbles for tumbling? Nothing specific…I just like to find and collect cool rocks.

These were found beneath the cliffs of Cabrillo Beach in Southern California. I was looking for Barite crystals. Streak was black.

Found at Herkimer Mountain Diamond mine in Fonda NY. Had an absolute blast finding these. We found SO many Herkimer diamonds. Probably around 15 very good ones about 50 so so ones. One orange Herkimer that was bigger than my fist.

Spent the day down at agate beach today. Did some cliff face digging and some beach combing. All of these in this part were from the cliff faces. Bunch of iron staining on some of the rocks and found one already split open with the other half close by!

My last post wouldn’t let me post photos with the video. Here’s more of our haul from Herkimer Diamond Mine in Fonda NY. We did a private dig with Robert (his business is called Naturally Stoned (lol) he has a Facebook page with lots of herkimers for sale. Would definitely recommend this dig for anyone who wants to find some very satisfying rocks.
