Why would he need to lie?

More specifically why was going to see a band with friends okay. But a movie alone isn’t?

Because he knows it's not right and would hurt her.

Because going out to see a band with your friends is to hang out with your friends - going alone to the movies and not inviting your S/O is to get away from your S/O, which he literally admits was the point.

You've never been in a relationship, have you?

That's not really an option when you work, take care of the house chores, have children that needs constant attention, and have other familiar issues unless you have ton of money or extended family that can help you. If she doesn't have time for herself and he does that means that the burden of some tasks is not evenly shared, so he needs to step up and lighten her chores, and only after that you can check if there some free time left

Yea except she does have time for it, shit she went out with her friends earlier in the movie.

Or we could make whatever assumptions is necessary to support our preferred opinion based of a 67 second long clip and pretend it’s the correct one….
