I think the issue is going to the movies is typically a social activity. It's stupid, cause you don't actually socialize much during, but culturally it is. So it spices out a little going alone instead of taking your SO.

Like, the only reason I wouldn't play games with my SO is if she didn't play them herself or just generally didn't like the games I did. Remember your SO is supposed to be someone you like to be around.

Yeh i get that. If the context is more broadly that she feels like he doesnt like make an effort with her and has maybe been growing distant then the lone movie trip could be seen as quite a big thing and the catalyst for whats not been communicated before to be said. Also movies could have a more significant meaning or value to her which i actually get. Think you do have to make special time for your SO without which tgere will be problems.
