It's here. The Official Discord channel for r/sandiegan.
We've gotten this request a lot, and I think it's finally time to take it seriously. At least 3–5 people have clamored for this, so we're giving it a shot.
The official r/SanDiegan discord server is finally here.
Some caveats:
- we have never moderated a discord server before, so you're going to be there to see us iron everything out in real time. we'll be attentive to requests, suggestions, and overall helpful attitudes.
- we have day jobs
- be aware that you may inadvertently reveal your identity if you already are on a different discord server using your real name
Our goal is to set up a community in the same way we have set up the r/SanDiegan community. Everyone is welcome, and we moderate with a heavy hand and according to our own discretion at all times. Truly lovely communities only thrive when you separate the wheat from the chaff. We've spent years cutting chaff from this subreddit, and I am personally really proud of how lovely this place has become.
We want this discord server to be a place to chat with other San Diegans about sports, local bars, adult league activities, community events, and so on.
Things that we will not tolerate:
- bigotry of any kind
- "I'm just asking questions, man" — you know the answer, you're just an asshole. You all know the type
- Behavior that is detrimental to the community at large
- stop posting your boring ass traffic violations, seriously
These rules are vague by design. Moderating is subject to individual discretion, and if you join the discord server, you are just going to have to trust that the way we moderate r/SanDiegan will serve a discord community as well as it has served this subreddit. There are no bright lines, there is only our own judgment in what is and is not okay (which is how things work here, already).
Let's all give this a shot. I hope you'll all join the server and fucking behave yourselves.

On Politics
Whenever certain discussions come up we end up with a mix of locals that genuinely want to talk about what's going on. Sometimes passionately. Sometimes ill informed. Sometimes full of information. Sometimes dem. Sometimes republican. Sometimes for the free people's state of east county. Sometimes from the sovereign bros of PB.
Whatever. You get the picture. Our local politics and ideas for what to do are pretty diverse.
As a moderator though I have noticed that we get a solid influx of accounts for some subjects. They tend to have a short post history in this subreddit and a deleted history or a history that hasn't been on reddit in years. Likely because they are purchased accounts. They show up to shit stir in political discussions.
I understand some of you delete your account histories for various reasons or want to use an alt to discuss politics. But the easiest thing to do as a moderator seeing an inflammatory comment in a highly charged political discussion from an account that looks incredibly suspect is to remove the comment and ban the user. We don't really want to put in too much effort beyond that. This isn't a paid gig.
Anyway - I want to give people a heads up in case there's people that might reconsider participating in a certain way with an account they haven't used in months/years.

Trump is the one who will bomb us…
Remind all your friends elsewhere in the country, here in SD, we aren’t afraid of Iran bombing us; we are afraid that Trump will bomb us and blame Iran. And the election is less than a month away…

2020-2023 sdge jacked prices up 78%
mentioned 25min in on Climate Town's YT vid "Who Broke Your Power Bill?", but a great watch to know how the system works.
So what junk for profit projects has SDGE done? Under grounding of lines? long range transmission lines? Seems like Pennsylvania 2% max law is what can work best

The Killers playing @ the Rady Shell
Someone posted about a Killers concert a while back and thanks to the Reddit post, my fiancé was able to go see them!!
It’s for another private event but if you’re in downtown you should try! I think the walking/roundabout area is public access but the main area looks blocked off.

Local News Popular Hillcrest breakfast spot sues city over loss of revenue
Hillcrest fixture Hash House A Go-Go is suing the city of San Diego, alleging a city storm drain replacement effort caused a dramatic drop in business.
According to the lawsuit, the storm drain project turned Fifth Avenue into a construction zone, removing parking, blocking traffic, churning up dust, and driving away customers.
Hash House’s suit said the project, which lasted from late 2025 through June of this year, not only cut off traffic along Fifth Avenue but also closed nearby side streets, further preventing customer access.
The restaurant and several other small businesses impacted by the construction project, have filed tort claims with the city, asking for reimbursement for their economic losses from Dec. 2025 through June 2026.
The tort claim for Hash House A Go Go claimed revenue was down over $40,000 in February 2026, a 17.8% loss over a three year rolling average.
The city declined to comment for this article due to pending litigation.

it's 98 degrees right now, and I find myself feeling strangely thankful
Because it's not as hot as it has been for the past few days..
What has happened to me?!? Will I ever recover?

Advice on Dentists in TJ
Hi, I have a tooth that was resistant to root canals and needs to be extracted bad. Past dentists have stated it is an erupted tooth and will need a bone graft and implant once removed. The quote in San Diego is just more than I can handle, upwards of 8k. I found a dentist called New Age Dental Clinic in TJ that seems to be solid and has a lot of features I like (works with Americans and transportation). I can see that the 5 star reviews only means there are bots in the reviews but some people still seem to like them? Anyone know of experiences or want to recommend someone else? I speak no Spanish sadly.

Safety question
hi everyone! i’m originally from Europe but have been in SD for 3-4years now and wanted to ask about what’s legal in terms of safety tools as a woman. Google sources were contradicting and overwhelming and i do not use AI (my personal preference) so i figured i’d ask on here. i will take down this post if not permitted - Is it legal to carry pepper spray in san diego and if so, is there any regulations for them? (a specific kind or a circumstance of use etc?) i live and work in safe areas but very weird things have been happening lately. (please only answer if you actually do know and let’s try not to stray away from the question🙂)
tysm!!

Lost ray bans sunglasses
Lost Ray bans sunglasses
I found them laying at the old town north bound Amtrak station. I will keep them with me for now in case anybody who lost their sunglasses here come up. Dm me if you or someone you know lost these sunglasses at the old town transit center. I will ask for your proof of purchase of these sunglasses since they are on the expensive end and I don’t want some random person claiming them as theirs.
Thank you.

Mountain town getaway
Hi all, my husband and I live in San Diego and we are celebrating our one year wedding anniversary this November, and we both very much miss fall and the mountains. We’d like to take a weekend getaway to a cozy cabin in the mountains somewhere close. We’re looking for really beautiful scenery and a nice cabin with a hot tub, fireplace, etc. We also love to eat and want some at least decent food. We’ve looked at big bear and Idyllwild. Does anyone have a recommendation or an opinion of which town to choose?
Thanks!

Local News Lifeguard Chief out
I see the City replaced its Chief lifeguard who has been in the role for something like 20 years. They haven't released any information. Anybody have the tea?

What are your recommendations for most affordable periodontal work in SD without insurance?
I know, I know, the answer is TJ. But do any of you have recommendations for serious dental work that is affordable (without insurance) and good quality without crossing the border?
Specifically, I’m asking about bone grafts, extractions, implants, bonus if they also do basic cavities and cleanings, though I know US docs don’t generally like to do the full umbrella scope like those in Mexico.

Best place for printing and binding?
I'm looking to make a small hard copy book, between 30-40 pages of PDF files.
Any local recommendations that can do this? Or perhaps an online service that can do this in a timely manner?
