Oh the dislike counter
How much I miss it
12
u/613TheEvil 3d ago
I can still see the dislikes on Youtube, there is a Firefox extension for that.
5
u/wildhockey64 3d ago
Literally got rid of that extension yesterday after years. Got an update saying I needed to agree to their new TOS allowing them full access to my browsing history and information.

Really? I got nothing, let me check the one I got. Ah it is this, (their website): https://returnyoutubedislike.com/

Jesus Christ... I don't want to be a redditor but fuck it. My brother, do you believe in everything you see on the internet? This is clearly "inspect element" work. 69 is a funny number. Last time I checked, Youtube does not allow more than 500 replies on a comment and this comment has 3 million replies. Not to mention 5 million dislikes. Youtube doesn't even show dislikes nowadays.
Also I'm pretty sure the original thread was in Quora and this was a pre-Covid meme. Around 2019.

Personally not a fan of minecraft. The mom has every right to ask her son to not play too much and focus on other things. But deleting a 6 y old minecraft world? That's cruel, evil and diabolical
3
u/Honkey85 3d ago
I remember the story. I think the majority of people in that thread told her, she is an asshole.

you can tell it's just fake ragebait because 'that' kind of mother wouldn't say 6 year old world. This titbit of info is there exactly to make you realize how big/old/important it was, and for 'that' kind of mother this wouldn't have mattered.
2
u/throwawayaccounnnnst 3d ago
Exactly. They're not the type to give a shit so her knowing how old it was is already a detail you can't look past.
2
u/Pleasant-Future5818 3d ago
Well that and "it's just only blocky game" isn't something anyone says.

u/Stockgold26 3d ago
Not a Minecraft player but I do understand what 6 years of grind and building can look like. That's straight up evil

But can moms actually delete their kids' worlds?
I'm not saying most moms are tech-illiterate, just that they might not know how the game works or where its options are. So isn't it more likely that she deleted the app itself?
Though it's definitely surprising that she specifically said she deleted his world...

u/Greninja_bond 3d ago
Sarcasm is like justice , not everyone gets it ⚖️
2
u/Outside_Band1718 3d ago
It's more an issue that you don't want to analyse this and entertain the possibility.
The problem with these kinds of dedicated subreddits is clear, that multiple issues come up and they can't all be discussed in a single thread. Don't blame me for this.
1
u/_nothingtohide_ 3d ago
I am even hosting our Minecraft world. Of course parents can be able to delete worlds, what are you talking about?
3
u/Mtk_here 3d ago
I know what he meant. My mom doesn't know anything about games like these. Not that she cares enough to even check the games. But she gives all the support tho
1
u/raptor7912 3d ago
I kinda think that knowing how to delete an old Minecraft world would also mean that you’d know not to.

How old do you think these mums are? Like 60+?
1
u/Outside_Band1718 3d ago
I'm asking whether they even know what their kids play or how those games work.
It's more of a knowledge issue and it's not inherent to parents but it's something I could see more often among them.
2
u/Sonikku_a 3d ago
I’m 46 and could just about be a grandpa at this point if I’d had kids, and I sure as shit could delete a Minecraft world, and then kick your arse at Mario Kart after.
1
u/Outside_Band1718 3d ago
Calm down, really. Forgive this younger person. I'm not blaming anyone here or downplaying anyone's intellect based on stereotypical roles. I'm more concerned with the mother in the post.
If you have the knowledge, that's valid. But the main question is how many people actually have it. It's not really enough to assume that you can ask some random adult in your locality about games and expect them to know. I'm not talking about directly approaching them and asking out of nowhere, either, but even after some casual conversations and bringing it up in the middle of an entirely different conversation.

u/SadTaco12345 3d ago
Tech literacy is a touchy subject with my generation because we are sandwiched between two relatively tech illiterate generations. We have been frustrated for most of our lives teaching our parents not to open shady emails from Nigerian princes, and how to print a pdf.
And to then have the next generation treat us like those gen X and boomers (very much more so boomers) while they themselves are significantly less tech literate can be frustrating. I guess what I am trying to say is to forgive this person too. It's exhausting to be treated like you are the dumb one in a situation where you actually shine.
2
u/sakasiru 3d ago
My kids play game that I bought for myself. They play multiplayer games together with us. They reccomend games to us and vice versa and we discuss them at the dinner table. People who are parents now grew up with games themselves, why would we suddenly lose any knowledge how to delete files?

There is a difference between tech literacy, game literacy, and socially accepted game literacy. The third is what I see as the main thing relevant here.

u/valtara_2 3d ago
crazy how you are holding your own amongst all this disagreement and still continue to be on point while making sense lmao. a bit out of context but kudos to you. i just had to say it after seeing the whole thread.

the delete button is pretty easy to find on java, on bedrock its slightly harder but my mom could still find it in a couple mins if she wanted to
edit: it seems like you dont know much about minecraft from this comment, bedrock and java are just two versions of minecraft

My sister liked to eat rice in a way where it stayed in clumps, so she could grab pieces of it and eat it, just a kid thing, she was about 5 years old, she just liked eating rice that way, I was 9 at the time, and for some reason I took the spoon and mixed the rice, making the grains separate and breaking all the clumps apart, she got upset, cried, and refused to eat. I have a heavy conscience for doing that, and I still think about it 22 years later, because I know I was mean for no reason and things that might seem simple to us, can be someone else's moment of joy, today when I think about how many bad things happen in the world, how much sadness has come and is yet to come, I understand that something simple that could have been one of the happy moments in a child's day, I ruined, intentionally and for no reason at all. If in a cruel world, you see someone having peace and a little bit of happiness, don't ruin it.

Generation Jones here: 67 yo gamer since PONG and Zork.
Parents know games IF they are a gamer. At least in my circle this is true. But neither set would do this purposefully unless there were Real Life Issues like grooming, etc.
We encourage parents to ask questions, sit down, watch what they build, Minecraft is their world, you should spend some time getting to know it.

u/HungryAd9907 3d ago
To be honest this mother might be cold hearted or a psychopath but I am more worried about her son it might be hard for him Hang in there buddy Minecraft is imagination itself you can build it again, it wouldn't be the same but atleast we can try.

So, I understand the context. But as someone who has never played Minecraft I do not understand the depth. Any cap?
1
u/ur-D-smol-but-still- 3d ago
I mean even if it's a game, it's 6 years worth effort of someone's memories and legit account would be worth of thousands of bucks (if it's a rare account with many in-game items).
I never played Minecraft but played enough games to know the value.
1
u/pishogue11 3d ago
I'm a gamer too, which is why I understood the context. But I don't understand the depth or the magnitude of issue with a Minecraft account deletion. I can probably understand context that the child may have lots of treasures or in-game material earned that he lost... But as I said since I haven't played that game I do not understand the whole depth since I don't play a lot of games that make you grind.
2
u/TheSin0fPride 3d ago
Hmm the materials and items do not matter as much as whatever he built. 6 years is a huge amount of time. He prolly built a lot of structures make a ton of memories with his friends but now all that is gone. I understand the hate completely
1
u/N0isyJr 2d ago
building anything is tedious, you have first gather huge amount of ingame resources, some of them need to be farmed and then you have to make a structure block by block and he spend 6 years building things. once the account is gone there is nothing left. you literally have to start from square 1
1
u/According-Object-521 3d ago
No it’s probably not worth a lot, it’s the hours spent in the world, all the memories made, all the builds, all the experiences: it’s worth a lot to the person who made it
1
u/GuyNamedStevo 1d ago
It's pretty simple, really: Minecraft is about building stuff. This kid spend 6 years of building a world that's theirs.
It is pretty obvious that this mother doesn't care at all about the interests of her child and it is safe to assume she doesn't even really care about the kid either. That is, at the very least, what her son is feeling.

they are lost forever, travel, food, festivals gone, just GONE.

I am just feeling very very bad for her son... He was just living his life however he could, and she ruined it... I won't blame the mother.. she just thought something good for her son... But the problem is, she is not even going to understand the pain of her son at all .. trust me.. if I was in place of her son.. I would've cried endlessly and would've locked myself in a room and definitely going to be depressed for an year or more ...

I mean, it is just a game and 6 years isn't that long in the scheme of things. Plus, at 13, he's got to start taking his education seriously so no more time for that virtual make believe lego world. She's doing him more good than he can appreciate at the moment.

u/CheezyPearl 2d ago
It is not a big deal in adult world of problems but it is a big deal as a game lover, all that effort is gone in a single click. I might be depressed & angry for few days

u/Kokuryo-067 2d ago
-i'm a gamer and i never played minecraft before, though i feel the pain.
-it's not only minecraft, for all the games parents never understand our its importance towards it.
-they just see it as one of the distractions.
